L'Oreal UK ads banned for retouched photos
Two L'Oreal cosmetics adverts featuring actress Julia Roberts and supermodel Christy Turlington were banned in Britain by the Advertising Standards Agency on Wednesday, following complaints by MP Jo Swinson. Liberal Democrat MP Swinson said the magazine adverts for foundations made by Maybelline and Lancome, both owned by L'Oreal, were misleading because the photos had been digitally altered. The ASA upheld her claim and banned the adverts for Maybelline's "The Eraser" foundation featuring Turlington and Lancome's "Teint Miracle" starring the brand's ambassador Roberts, saying there was not enough evidence to show the retouched images accurately reflected what the products could achieve. "Excessive airbrushing and digital manipulation techniques have become the norm, but both Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts are naturally beautiful women who don't need retouching to look great," said Swinson. Lancome defended the image of Roberts as an "aspirational picture" of what the product could do and said her luminous complexion in the advert was down to her natural beauty and lighting used by the photographer Mario Testino. It said changes made by digital enhancement were not "directly relevant" to what the product was meant to achieve. Maybelline said they believed the advert accurately portrayed what The Eraser could achieve despite airbrushing and pointed out that crows' feet and other lines were still visible in the retouched image. L'Oreal has faced similar complaints in the past and had to add a disclaimer to adverts for their Telescopic mascara featuring actress Penelope Cruz, saying that she was wearing false eyelashes after the ASA ruled the adverts exaggerated the effect the mascara could have on lash length. The ASA received complaints last year that British singer Cheryl Cole was wearing hair extensions in adverts for L'Oreal's Elvive shampoo, but said the campaign was not misleading for consumers, who would understand Cole had been professionally styled. Lancome and Maybelline expressed disappointment that the adverts had been banned in statements on Wednesday. Both companies said scientific tests proved the effectiveness of their products and cited consumer surveys that showed a majority of women found the foundations achieved the desired results.

Mesotherapy What It Does - It injects into the mesoderm area of the skin.
o - Plastic surgery is only skin deep; the incisions from the surgeon's scalpel leaves small cuts and scars. ) The harvesting and grafting may possibly be done in an individual or two separate methods, the decision will be made based mostly on your certain condition by your medical doctor.
Here is my blog ... http://www.non-surgical-facelift.info
I heard all of Rachel Weisz's campaigns for L'Oreal are banned in the UK + Penelope is no longer with L'Oreal, she was replaced last year by Paz Vega.
following the trend all whitening creams should be banned
in India because they show a false, Photoshopped image...
@i cant believe some people are using this post to bash Aishwarya. Get a life people.
well ,the same problem is seen with aishwarya thats why she is brought into this post.
in fact aishwarya rai s case is much more serious and important than julia s case.aishwarya lives in a country where skin colour is still an "issue" and aishwarya , knowing it by herself still ,and aishwarya being a brown skinned by herself she tries to portray a white woman s image which is completely wrong.now, dont say loreal does it!! of course aishwarya allows that! because not only for loreal almost in all of her public even candid appearances she is seen with lighter than her true-self.
so the same banning is needed in india.aishwarya should stop being a wrong role modal for indian teenage girls and also for indian woman.claiming to be "the most beautiful" , saying that "she is confident with her complexion", and being a miss world AT LEAST AISHWARYA RAI SHOULD STOP BLEACHING HERSELF.SHE HAD BETTER LIVE UP TO HER STATEMENS AND TAGS.
Otherwise no improvement will be seen among indian society .imagine in this society even the woman who is miss world, even the woman who claims to be the most beautiful in the world ,even the woman who is top in bollywood bleaches her complexion then ....dont expect anything from sociiety and dont expect any "improvement" as long as people run behind the wrong role modal
i cant believe some people are using this post to bash Aishwarya. Get a life people.
As for the lurking in the shadows, being a silent spectator is better than doing this shameless job!
@Kitty - As I said, you will never see reality! What makes you think anything in my previous post was 'bitter'? Cry baby! Just look at the other posts below yours....stay in delusion! Don't even mention about the topic of the post. You did no justice to that either.
Don't show your frustration on me! Most of the people on pinkvilla are annoyed by your needless defense for your idol. As I said earlier, I hate nobody and I get nothing out of it. But I am no ass licker either!!!!!!!!!
So let's have a poll and ask people to vote.
Do you think users like Kitty should stop defending their idols needlessly and pounce on users for every single comment which was unfavorable about their star?
I am not sure if PV will allow this...which is sad!
Like I said, get well soon! :)
Not just you, but anyone else that would get pleasure out of lurking in the shadows only to emerge for the sole reason to "repeatedly pick on" users, without any interest at all in commenting on the actual *TOPIC* of an article. Try to stay on topic and that may help to reduce some of your bitterness and anger towards others. Bollywood usually makes people happy, try to see the bright side of life and enjoy yourself! :)
And BTW you really have no idea about all the people that have inspired me in my life, but you surely are not one of them, so please direct your unwarranted lectures/essays to someone else... thanks. :)
Watch out Aish! Lol
@Kitty, I see all posts and I don't genuinely feel you guys do anything else apart from saving your idol and praising her all the time. I have posted several times not to fight on this forum or defend needlessly for celebs. Come on, don't you have better things to do? Why do you care if someone says something about some celeb? I am not asking you to not be a fan. But you pick on users and go fight with them just because they said something wrong about aishwarya. This is called mad fanaticism. What do you get by attacking users? There are so many celebs and people WILL always have negative and positive opinions about every damn celeb. I do feel ash is beautiful, she is a star and all that...but none of us know her in person. We dunno any celeb unless they are part of our family or very close to us. Be it any celeb! So get a life and stop this aimless defense! I am no anti-ash campaigner, nor am I a boot licker! This is not just for you, but for several mad fanatics here. It is not healthy when you go attack users just because someone posts something against your celeb. Go through all my posts, I have never said anything wrong about any celeb, not even bad opinions. I don't harass anyone or bash up people. I get nothing out of it. I repeatedly pick on you guys cuz this is going crazzzzzy. And pls don't come up with - oh you are so jealous!....Celebs are just humans, infact they have a miserable life than most of us. They are jus doing their job and I NEVER get inspired by some random celeb on TV or movies. It makes every sense to be with real people and get inspired by those whom we meet everyday than someone who I never know apart from the way they look like. This is definitely not for your idol, but for every celeb.
On Pinkvilla, I watch pictures, check out latest trends in fashion/movies and MOVE ON. But you guys never leave things as it is. It is not just me, but several other users who feel the same Kitty.
Btw, my contribution is to MAKE YOU GUYS SEE REALITY! I guess I will never succeed.
publicity stunt
Loreal should be proud that Ash is so acknowleded as thier face and give her a maasive raise
ofcourse all celebrities are photoshopped. but atleast they/their PR dont go ON AND ON AND ON AND ON about how they are "most beautiful woman in the world"
Only ASH claims that!!! that's why everyone is commenting on ASH.
hahaha Ban Aishwarya's ads then. she has been so plump since long, and yet in all loreal ads, she has an amazing figure :D
this means all of Aishwarya's add has to be banned as well! haha
Thank God somebody is stopping this nonsense of photoshopping.. this is gone way too far
Aishwarya and Beyonce are the most retouched L'Oreal girls ever!!! Anyway, it's obvious that they don't even use L'Oreal for these shoots. You might as well just rub water on your face than that pathetic foundation; it would make no difference.
@ phoenixrising... you know what? Most of us here like to come and talk about the fashions, the stars, the movies, the gossip, etc... but you just seem to only be interested in showing up to harass fans of Aishwarya. A real one trick pony you are, you can't seem to comment anything unless you are bashing users like Sujatha, Smuck, and others... that is your only contribution. I feel sorry for you. Get well soon.
Kitty, YOU HAVE NO LIFE! PERIOD
WWhy is everyone discussing Aish here ?? She is also doing ads like all other celebrities !! I fail to understand that even after having a whole team of makeup artists , hairdressers , cameramen , lights why is there even a need of airbrushing ?
It's really funny how some people are completely missing the point! LOL
These ads came under scrutiny because of false claims. If a foundation called "The Eraser" is marketed as a magic potion that makes wrinkles disappear, and uses a photoshopped image as proof, then obviously this is false advertsing.
If Aishwarya is advertising a hair colour product, and it REALLY DOES work, and it really does colour hair, that is not false advertising. Whether she is photoshopped to look thinner or not (like in that shampoo ad) is a non-issue in regards to whether the hair dye works or not.
Just like how in the Sony ads, Kareena has half her body chopped off in some of them (in some of the sloppiest and cheapest looking photoshop I have even seen in my life!) but that does not mean that the laptops don't work, right? Come to think of it, the "size zero" laptop ads are trying to promote a (false) image of a size zero Kareena to sell their product... funny stuff! The image of the star is false but as long as they are not making false claims about the PRODUCT, the ads would not be banned. Hope that makes sense?
Ah well I guess people will obsess over Aishwarya no matter what... By the way did anyone see Emma Watson's latest grossly photoshopped Vogue cover? She was sooooo milk-white on it, she must HATE her natural skin colour in real life, going by the foolish logic below! Ha ha
I'm not familiar with these things too much, so here's my question (maybe some of you might know the answer) - Do the women in these ads know that they will be photoshopped? I mean, do they sign some sort of disclosure or statement that says that it is up to the brand what they want to do with their images?
@Its so funny how Ash is being discussed here as if she is the only celebrity photoshopped! Every celebrity of every brand for every picture is photoshopped.
it s not funny just the opposite the very right place to discuss aishwarya rai s case.
yes, right, each and every magazine shoots are photoshopped / airbrushed however none is as heavily photoshopped as aishwarya rai s photos.i have never seen that striking difference in other celeb photos.it is only aishwarya who is made porcelain white (while she is brown skinned) ,it s only aishwarya whose features changed at a great extent and most important of all IT IS ONLY AISHWARYA WHO STILL CLAIMS TO BE THE MOST NATURAL AND BEAUTIFUL so whenever such topics come on the screen people will never stop talking and remembering aishwarya rai but not because she is popular, epitome of beauty just because she is epitome of fakeness and pretending who looks so different from her real self in all the ads/shoots/

i think that Indians should also start to take this seriously... aishwaraya rai bachan... (who is in my opinion has brought the concept of skin lightning in Bollywood) kareena,karishma,deepika,sonam...and so many others !!! their pictures and magazine covers should be banned as well!!maybe we will wakeup after 10 years when our youth will be destroyed!!
lol
every ad of aish should have been done so too
yes all celebrities are photoshopped but no celebrity has PR and crazy fans shouting from rooftops about how their fave celebrity is" the most beautiful in the world" like the way ash rai fans do.....that is why there are so many negative comments about her looks.....
Ash is being discussed to the anon below because she is heavily the cause for Photo-shopping in India! lolz
thank god someone's paying attention to these things!! fooling people should not become the norm.

If L'Oreal sees the comments below, they'll be proud! The brand has become synonymous with Aishwarya's name!
