Aishwarya Rai vs Sonam Kapoor: Femina Cover

In June 2010 Femina magazine surprised all of us with two Aishwaryas on the cover. One was an old ash from the time she won the miss world in 1994 and one was the new Ash from 2010. She was photogaphed by Farrokh Chothia.
One year later Femina released a similar cover with Sonam Kapoor playing double on the cover. Actually there are 3 Sonams in the feature . She dons a yesterday's look, a today's look and the Tomorrow's look. She was photographed by Atul Kasbekar.

How old is too old for a Bollywood actress to play lead?

How old is too old for a Bollywood actress to play lead?

Cinema is a visual medium and Bollywood hugely looks at our actresses as glam dolls. Our actresses unlike in Hollywood need to be the superwoman - they need to dance, act, stay slim , be fashionable all these at the same time.
I have often seen people talking about actresses being too old to play lead and that they need to retire. This is the effect of us looking at our actresses as glamorous objects. If they are married and are in the child bearing years, the pressure is even more so.
My question when we let our men play leads at 42-44, Why be harsh on the ladies?

Bollywood heroines - actresses or glam dolls?

Bollywood heroines - actresses or glam dolls?

Actresses in Bollywood are given step motherly treatment in our industry; there is nothing new in this statement. Often, they are just deemed fit to add glamour to the films, dance around the trees and play the hero’s love interest. It is very rare to see a leading actress play a pivotal role in a commercial Hindi film. They all wait for an author packed role from a critically acclaimed director so that they can display their acting prowess to the world.
