Shantanu did his MBA from the University of Toledo, Ohio, USA. He had realized the power and the growth of the Indian fashion world, but also had come to know of the shortcomings of the industry. His education helped him understand the market, its requirements, and the various intricacies involved in marketing the product.
Nikhil, on the other hand, had been ingenious right from the school days. He had joined the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California for an advanced course. He has been awarded with some of the most prestigious awards and scholarships. Nikhil was invited to design a collection for a prestigious store "Georgio Beverly Hills" in Los Angeles and was featured in L.A.Times to be the only Indian designer to have had a show in Universal Studio, Hollywood.

It was in 1999 that Shantanu and Nikhil decided to team their creative as well as consumerist skills to venture into the fashion forum, with a keen attitude of creating sophisticated, yet elegant urban styling. Their label 'Shantanu and Nikhil' is synonymous to the phrase "future fashion". The brand eyes on global young and trendy market. After having a taste of success in the men's wear couture, the designer duo plunged into the women's wear in the year 2001, with signature collections like Diffusion and Couture, at display at the Indian Fashion Week.
The brand ventured in the year 2003, to reach out to the masses with a classy high-street western line, which combined fine viable receptivity and a sense of style. The collection includes not only chic sports wear, but also saris, short kurtis with trousers, skirts with bustiers in chiffons and Banarasi georgettes with intricate embroidery, reflecting the richness in its essence.
