Box Office Report: Ford v Ferrari ends opening weekend race on the top spot; Charlie’s Angels BOMBS in the US
Ford v Ferrari and Charlie's Angels clashed at the box office over the weekend. While the angels hardly drew the audience to the theatres, viewers thronged to watch Christian Bale and Matt Damon help Ford win against Ferrari.
Charlie called the angels but people did not want to see them. Instead, the audience walked into the theatres walked into theatres to enjoy a front seat view of the Le Mans race through Ford v Ferrari. Both the international movies released over the weekend. Charlie's Angels, which stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska, rebooted the renowned franchise. But it seems like the audience was done with the franchise. As a result, Charlie's Angels put up a disastrous show at the box office.
According to Forbes, Charlie's Angels collected just $8.6 million over its three-day run at the box office in the US box office. It is a huge disappointment given that the 2003 Charlie's Angels movie opened with $37 million. On the other hand, Ford v Ferrari ended its weekend on an impressive note. The movie, which stars Christian Bale and Matt Damon in the lead, opened amidst good reviews and eventually won the weekend box office. The race-themed movie, Oscar-friendly run crossed the weekend box office finishing line with a collection of $31 Million.
While the two movies battled for the top spot, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker danced up the staircase and surpassed The Dark Knight at the worldwide box office. The Joker movie boasts a box office collection of $1.017 billion, surpassing the Christian Bale and Heath Ledger starrer, which collected $1.004 billion, over the weekend.
