Nandita Das directorial Manto released yesterday i.e. September 21. The movie stars none other than Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role. For the unversed, Manto is based on the life of Indo-Pakistani famous and controversial writer Saadat Hasan Manto. Talking about the day one collection, Manto has just collected Ts 45-50 lakhs net. The numbers are low as the film is mainly for high-end multiplexes. But the movie will get some growth on Saturday. The trade analysts had earlier predicted that the movie will earn around 1 to 1.5 crore on the day one. The movie can make good bucks later this weekend or next week as the movie is getting good reviews from critics as well as from masses.

This is Nandita's second film as a director. Yes, her first directorial debut was with 2008’s Firaaq. Apart from Nawazuddin, the movie also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Rasika Dugal and Rajshri Deshpande in the key roles. The movie was also premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. The movie is released alongside Shahid Kapoor, Yami Gautam and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu. But the latter is doing really good at the box office compared to former.

As per trade analysts, the movie has to generate post-release buzz in order to stay in the race. Even though Nawazuddin is one of the sought after actors right now, he is unable to attract a major chunk of moviegoers. Are you excited for the movie? Have you already watched it?
