Best Dancers in Bollywood - Male
The song and dance routine is the forte of Indian Cinema. If love is in the air, there needs to be a song; a misunderstanding, break into a song; a break up, sing a song; well you get the picture right? Many a times you might have also seen that the fate of a film does not really impact the fate of the music in that film. There are some movies that you would rather forget but the songs have been memorable! Its a double whammy if the choreography is a treat to watch. With all due respect to the choreographers. the end result of a music video is purely based on the way a song has been picturised and performed. And thankfully, Bollywood has some amazing dancers.
Today, its all about the routine choreography but there was a time when it was the instincts of an actor while listening to the songs that transformed into steps of the dance. Shammi Kapoor, the man whose dance moves we still love to watch. The bobbing of the head, those one legged movements was the trademark steps of the "larger than life" Shammi Kapoor. Remember "Aaja Aaja" and "Yahhooo"?
Jeetendra, the "jumping jack" of yester years, was one of those few men who could make the classical dance moves and chest heaving look very manly! "Dhal Gaya Din Ho Gayi Shaam" with Babita and "Naino Mein Sajna" with Sridevi, who can ever forget the videos of these songs!
And then came an era of "Disco" numbers, that saw the entry of Mithun Chakraborty. His claim to fame was this genre of dance and dancing to the tunes of "I am a disco dancer" earned him the "King of Disco" tag.
Govinda, has always been a pleasure for the choreographers to work with. The "Raja Babu" of B - Town was often ridiculed for his dance moves but nobody can take away the kind of energy he brings on the screen with his dancing. Its simply mind blowing! Who said you need to have light feet to dance well? "Soni De Nakhre" proved that myth wrong.
Arshad Warsi is one dancer who is yet to get his due in tinsel town. Despite being an amazing dancer, he somehow got camouflaged among the other brilliant dancers of Bollywood
As the years passed by, dance became all about technical details, proper finish and attitude. And the man responsible for that - Hrithik Roshan! He proved that men can be as flexible as women and yet look extremely stylish and manly. I don't need to give examples, do I?
Shahid Kapoor followed in his footsteps. A student of the Shiamak Davar Dance Academy, Shahid was earlier seen as a background dancer in the movie "Taal". Showed his brilliant dancing skills in his debut movie, "Ishq Vishk" but took his talent to a different level with a lot of 'oomph' in "Jab We Met".
Ranbir Kapoor is another one of the Kapoor men who can confidently boast of his dancing skills. Marveled the audience with the title track of "Bachna Ae Haseeno" and got a lot of girls saying "aaaww" in the title track of "Wake up Sid". But it was in "Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani" (Main Tera Dhadkan) that the attitude found its presence in his dancing.
Ranveer Singh would be the latest entrant to this list. Though he is yet to prove his dancing abilities, if the "Mast Mast" song from "Band Baaja Baraat" is anything to go by, this boy will only improve with time and proper guidance.
Who would your pick be? Somebody from the list or otherwise?
