Creative bankruptcy seems to have gripped Bollywood. Every second film looks inspired from foreign movies. To add to this sad plight, every filmmaker today are re-churning the classics. Zanzeer, Agneepath, Don , Satte pe satta and even not so very old Andaaz Apna Apna. Filmmakers are even looking down South for inspiration. Magadheera, Vettai are soon to be remade in Bollywood.

Bollywood is often touted as the second largest movie industry in the world. And India as an emerging super power.

Any industry needs to grow and in the positive direction. This recent trend in Bollywood is such an unhealthy trend. Have we gotten so lazy that we cant even think of coming up with some original scripts and music ? Or Has Bollywood gotten plain lazy? Why is everyone in Bollywood having the herd mentality? Why is everyone following each other in the remake trend?

This brings to the point I wanted to make. Where is Bollywood headed? Is there any hope left or are we really creatively bankrupt?

P.S: I have added the poster of one of my favorite Bollywood classics which unfortunately is being remade :(

Is Bollywood suffering from creative bankruptcy? OFCOURSE. AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. That is why i do not ever go to the cinemas and watch an indian movie!!

I think India should stop being obsessed in claiming the number 1 position (in terms of producing movies). And start producing quality movies over quantity.

A lot of Bollywood movies are written, directed, and produced by the same person. How can we expect that one person to be great in those three areas? That is not the same for Hollywood, where the director is usually responsible for the success of the film. Maybe the Bollywood film producers should be more open to making movies based on succesful books and doing their best to find great original scripts.

Enough with wanting to be like Hollywood 2.0 with Agent Vinod, Ra.One, Krrish, etc. Bollywood needs to go back to making classic desi movies like Jodha Akbar, Omkara, Agneepath, Jab We Met... Damn I can't think of any recent classic movies because there rarely are being made anymore!

To the commenter below, Bollywood is the no.1 industry in the world in terms of volume of films made.

Bollywood is obssessed with being like Hollywood these days. That is why Bollywood is doing remakes and sequels. It is sad.

Also, I HATED THE CHARLIE AND CHOCOLATE FACTORY REMAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i think the only good remakes are the ones that have better special effects due to modern technology. like Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. that was great cuz of the effects. but thats a unique movie.

i dont get the point of a remake. why should we see something that we've already seen before? same storyline. characters wont change anything. plz come up with Original Scrips Bwood! :( after 2008 its been mostly remakes. take ur time and write a good script!! Hwood will officially get sick and cheated of all these remakes of their unique movies. they probably are. and they wont visit india. :P
