DNA report - Bollywood star wives and drugs
These days no secrets can be hidden. It is the time of wiki leaks you see. Rajeev Masand started this trend in Bollywood with the blind items he writes for Open Magazine. Leading publications have followed suite.Today, DNA has a report on Bollywood wifes and the use of drugs. I was disillusioned when I read it. I am a bollywood fanatic and I like to keep the picture rosy. But i guess stars lead a rather stressful life and their wifes even more so and they sometimes take the easy route to solve their problems. So here goes the report. I am not going to take names but it is very clear who they are refering to. What would be your advice to these star wives who are overshadowed by their star husbands? It’s well-known in filmy circles that the star wife of a Bollywood hunk (he loves showing off his six packs) fell into severe depression on learning that her husband was sleeping with an actress. She — let’s call her Mrs N — turned to drugs, and started eating less and less. Despite being slim, she lost 20 kg and now looks reed-thin. Then there is the wife of a rotund star comedian. She copes with the reality of a husband who doesn’t care about her, and is a schizophrenic to boot, by regularly popping barbiturates. Similar is the tale of a yesteryear star who had risen to filmy glory from a Mumbai chawl. His beautiful wife got hooked to drugs after she began dating a male model who was a known drug user. From being a regular on the social circuit, she has withdrawn into a shell since her addiction. Women of substances A couple of months back, for instance, the wife of a Bollywood superstar was caught at Berlin airport with marijuana in her handbag. She was subsequently let off because the quantity was less — only enough for personal consumption. Pressure was brought to bear so that neither the police nor the airport officials dared to reveal her name. And the incident therefore never made it to ‘news’, being consigned to a mention in the gossip columns and tweets. But industry insiders admit that substance abuse is quite common among Bollywood spouses. Call it the stress of living in the superstar’s shadow. Apparently, beyond the glaring limelight of a movie star, there lies a zone of intense darkness. More often than not, this is the zone the star wife inhabits. Of course, from time to time, she also gets to bask in the star’s reflected glory. But it is a truism in the Hindi film industry that being a star wife comes at a price. Dealing with the fact that your identity will be blanked out by your spouse’s, that you’ll forever be referred to as Mrs Bollywood Superstar, takes its toll, and sometimes, the person snaps, and seeks refuge in the embroidered reality of a drug-induced high. Actor Om Puri’s wife Nandita Puri sets things in perspective, stating bluntly that spouses of many superstars take to drugs and have extra-marital affairs when they can’t cope with the fact that they no longer seem to have an identity of their own. “You must understand that theirs is a lonely world. It’s like living in a fish bowl, and being unable to get used to it. At first, you enjoy all the attention you get from your spouse’s cronies. Soon, you begin to lose your sense of who you are, who you used to be. And from there, it’s a downward spiral — leading to depression, drugs and all the rest.” The experience of star wife, Mrs N, buttresses Puri’s viewpoint. “When I am invited to events and parties, it is on account of me being N’s wife. People talk as if I am responsible for his hits and misses and his good and bad performances on screen. Even when I visit a friend’s pyjama party, the whole evening is spent discussing him. There are times when I ask myself ‘God! When did my life become only about him? What about me?’ The very fact that I don’t enjoy this anymore is a sign that I need to break off and go somewhere and be my own self,” she says candidly. “Things were worse when he was having an affair. People began to treat me as if I had lost my husband. My children were coming and asking me, ‘What’s wrong with daddy’, my brother was calling to ask me if it was really true and if I am moving out, and of course, there’s this big, bad friend-circle of mine who would wonder insinuatingly if he had lost interest in me because I don’t have sex the way he likes to or as often as he wants to.” ‘Coke only once in a while’ “I get together with my group of friends, and we smoke a lot of pot. We giggle and laugh when we are high, play games. Sometimes they bring tablets, and some snort cocaine. I do coke only once in a while. It transports you to a time and place where you are not bothered what’s happening in the here and now, and more importantly, you are not bothered what your husband is doing. It’s a blissful escape…” she trails off. Model and actress Monikangana Dutta, who is part of the social circle that also includes perpetually coked up star spouses, believes that the stress of being a star spouse hits those women the hardest who just sit at home doing nothing. “Not working, only looking good all the time, and ending up just socialising every day takes a toll on your sanity. You get a feeling that there’s nothing concrete in your life. On top of that, the husband is famous, and gets plenty of attention from attractive female fans and aspiring starlets — all that makes some women even more insecure, and they end up destroying themselves.” In a way, being married to a star means you are married to someone super-successful, and this is a constant reminder to star wives of how unsuccessful they themselves are, avers clinical psychologist Seema Hingorrany, who has quite a few clients from Bollywood film families. “The best way to cope is to develop your own identity. And in the case of a drug addiction, they need to undergo a rehab programme followed by counselling.” Puri sums up the predicament of star spouses in a nutshell. “Most of them are just plain tired of pampering their husband’s egos all the time. They are tired of walking in their shadows, and tired of forgiving every time their husbands cheat. There are times when you simply cannot digest the fact that your whole life centers around one person, a person who doesn’t even care about you, and there is no way out. The tragedy is that even if you leave your star husband, you will spend the rest of your life being known as that person’s ex.”

Having read all these comments, it seems the whole world thinks hrithik's wife is the culprit. is she not happy in her marriage. is she so transparent that people can read her moods through pic? WHY are people srly assuming its her? which co star is hrithik sleepimg with? certainly not barbara (she did ruffle a few feathers but that was needed). I don't know of any rotound actor - comedian but if I were to give Mrs N advice and if she happens to be Sussanne, then please get yourself a new hobby not charcoal project (that is work). when you travel by yourself as i assume most star wives do, then let yourself go -don't think about your family, just yourself and look at the world through your eyes, not your husbands. get to know new people both women and men in different worlds with different mind sets - do not restrict yourself to only bollywood and indians - just be open. if you have a wide spectrum of acquitances, you get to learn so much and receive so much that boredom and silly love stories become your past - you become a whole woman with substance (not takin substance), let yourself be invited to friends internationally, get into social causes and support people internationally, make your name out there and let your husband be the Mr Sussanne/insert star wife - don't restrict yourself to a groupie in bollywood. Go internatianal - it is your call. never forget the kiddies while you are at it. And whatever you do don't wait until you are too old it beats the whole purpose. This advice is for all star wives.

Always been fond of Hrithik myself,but Mrs N seems very like Mrs Susanne Roshan...'' a '6 pack hunk', wife from a filmi family, has a brother,children,the weight loss''.No other star wife qualifies with all those points.It's very sad bcos the ladies are always gonna throw themselves at her husband. Kiran Rao Khan is not the typical Bollywood show piece wife & Twinkle has no brother.
The 'rotund actor' is Govinda & Sunita.The poor lady has always been vocal about the fact that her husband may stray,but she will always be the 'wife' & 'mother of his children'.

It is Susanne Roshan. The poor woman is a saint and a victim of circumstance. The subject of Barbara Mori is still a sore spot in her marriage and whenever Barbara'a name comes up, she has to fight her face from cringeing. Only place you can see this play out a little is in the KWK interview with the Roshans. When Hrithik brings up Barbara, Susanne averts her eyes, looks down and seems sad. I don't believe Hrithik is a bad person either for cheating. They are just victims of celebrity circumstance.

she is the only star wife with no pride of her own - she can die without hrithik.....desparado. And hrithik has moved on. so its her and only her ...sad. Gauri looks very comfortable in her position as SRK's wife. all other wives seem comfortable but hrithik and sussanne not so much. Twinkle seems mature and proud. oher star wives either don't have six pack husbands or are not important enough to be mentioned.

srsly, it sounds really immature to just do drugs bc you have no identity or your husband is cheating. work for a social cause you believe in, take care of your kids and make them good human beings bc a mom really shapes their kids' characters and ethics. you don't have to take bs from your husband and be all depressed.

You had just had the second child (without hrithik’s eyes ) and was devastated you’d lose him if you grew fat.
You are not a bored housewife, you have your career own and is involved in hrithik’s career, you travel with him the world over (to do his laundry) to provide love, encouragement , the push, the reason to work harder. You have clearly a loving husband who is not interested in other women (just men and yourself only) . he is there when you need him, he tolerates your friends and your brother for goodnessake!, he encourages and promotes your career. You people beleive too much in SRK, there are many sides of Shahrukh Khan. I remember Gauri had said that she reffers to him as Shahrukh 1 & Shahrukh 2 because he has different personalities. But I can see many more sides to him like Shahrukh 3, 4, 5, 6....HA HA HA.

Berlin - is either Gauri or Suzzane, since both of them went to Berlin in past few days, it def. is not Kiran Rao....I am a psychiatrist. Kiran Rao looks extremely comfortable and healthy in Aamir's company. Moreover, she herself is into the literary side of the films like editing etc. and has directed Dhobi Ghaat etc. She has no pressure to look good or wear designer wear always to look good in front of Aamir. She is very comfortable personality.
Kiran's healthy face tells that she is not into drugs.
Suzzane and Gauri, both are into some kind of drugs, their faces are so pale and sick. Gauri's insecurity can be seen in this year's FF awards, when SRK was performing with Madhuri. I mean, she is rich, has everything, butmay be just fell into bad company as SRK is too busy with his projects.
Moreover, this 'insecurity' or infidelity' bu husbands is just an excuse to justify their own bad/spoiled habits. They can go into social service, raise funds for the poor and the hungry, educate poor women in their free time to keep themselves busy and do something worthwhile for the under-privileged people of the country which has made their husbands stars, but all they want is glamor themselves. Yeah, I def don't think Gauri does drugs. I'm sure she has a stressful life, but her world is Aryan, Suhana, and SRK. In fact, I'm confident its not her.
Sussanne, on the other hand, I'm not too sure about.... With such a beautiful wife and two cute kids, why would Hrithik even think about anyone else. That had to take a toll on her. Remember when people said she moved out, but then the Roshans covered up for it saying that they were having the house exterminated so Sussanne and the boys went to her parents.
I agree with the comment who says Preeti Zinta and Deepika are strong women. Yes, the did have boyfriends, Preeti might have taken drugs for fun, but unlike these star wifes, they do have the guts to say no to their man and tell him his limits , and not cry after that. Deepika did not forgive Ranbir, and we all know the bold statements she has given after their break up. Ness was asking Preeti to give up her acting career for marriage, but Preeti being bold did not bow in. She is still professional partners with Ness, but isn't giving up her ambition for him and hence broke up with him
