Think of DDLJ or KKHH and you will picture SRK & Kajol, think of Jab We Met and you will picture Kareena Kapoor, Munna Bhai-Sanjay Dutt, Lagaan-Aamir, 3 Idiots-Aamir, Sridevi-English Vinglish, Barfi-Ranbir, Kahani-Vidya, Salman-ETT...the list goes on. Do media, fans, & trade analysts give too much importance to stars while discussing the fate of a film? do they really deserve all of it since they are the face of the film?
There are zillion kinds of talents that go towards the making of a film. The makers, directors, creative staff, technicians - do they get their due? On the flip-side, who is blamed when the film flops? What are your thoughts on this?
Is the system completely star-centric? If so, who is to blame? the media? the fans?..would be wonderful to know your insights on this!

Directors, script writers, creative staff deserve more credit. But it's stars who walk away with the accolades. Lagaan is an Ashutosh Gowariker film but Aamir Khan gets more credit for it. Aamir gets credit even if he gives minor inputs in a film. Three Idiots' record success is due to Raju Hirani and Abhijat Joshi (Aamir didn't even do 100 crore on his own in Talaash) but it's called an Aamir film. Same way DDLJ's cult appeal has more to do with vision of Aditya Chopra but it's made as if it's longest running film due to SRK-Kajol alone. HAHK, MPK are made Salman-Madhuri-Bhagyashree deals, while the actual brain - Sooraj Barjatya is not talked of.
But fans and media readily remember director if a film flops or underperforms and claim the film made whatever it made due to star while the failure is of director.
Fans and media most to blame for giving too much importance to stars.
P.S - topic from I-F? :D
fans do it all although they dnt get credit for anything they fight for watching the movie and for defending the actors they love... whenvr their movie flops they say we dont really knw wht the audience wanna see and when its a hit they say thank u director ji and evryone associated wth the movie!! actors ka toh faida hee faida hai..
When its a great movie someone is definitely credited for its success whether stars os director. Actore are not blamed for the flop of the movie always and its obvious they worked hard but the movie didn't shaped out according to the vision of the director.
Of course, the script and the director have to be good, but that doesn't mean that every actor will deliver the same performance. There is a lot of credit to the acting skills of the lead pair. I don't think that DDLJ or KKHH would have been the same with other actors. Someone else would have played the characters in a different way and I doubt that it would be the same. It is because of Kajol's and SRK's immense talents and acting skills plus the superb scripts and directors.
You have to realize that all of these hit movies have "good" actors, chosen by the producer/director themselves - who believes that these particular actors can achieve the characters they want to portray. For ex--- I am sure that Rajkumar Hirani won't take Sunny Leone or Tushar Kapoor for the main leads! He chooses actors who he knows are already successful and EXTREMELY good in acting...actors who can understand their character and portray it on screen just like he wants.
Similarly, GOOD and SUCCESSFUL actors like Aamir Khan/SRK chooses good scripts & directors, so that they can prove their acting skills!! So, yes, stars walk with a wee bit extra credit but that is also because they deserve it - because it is more about if the actor can PORTRAY the character JUST LIKE how it has been written or imagined by the director and writer! The actor has a tougher job to do in this case! I am sure, if Aamir Khan acted like Tushar Kapoor or Fardeen Khan in 3 Idiots no one would have watched this movie again :P
I think it depends on the star & the movie. Like every recent brainless Salman movie is a super hit only because he is acting in it. The role & the acting counts too....who remembers Amisha in Kaho na pyaar hai or the ladies of the Munnabhai series? Kareena & not Shahid is remembered for Jab we met ! Now someone like Sridevi deserves every bit of the applause for making English Vinglish the hit it is.... especially that last speech in English , it was so real.
FLOP or HIT..... all related are equally responsible and deserve....
I don't think its unfair that stars get the most credit, they face the most flak too when a film flops. And in any case, they really are the main attraction of a movie.
When it's a hit - All the credit goes to the actor/actress
When it's a flop - It gets blamed on the director/writer
----------so true........this can be concluded from all critics reviews..........
but criticism hat stars face on daily moment basis and undergo such huge scrutiny.....thats price they pay for all other rewards.....and must say thats very big,,,,,u cant live in ur home silently....for few days because u r a star...........
FOR BARFI ALL CREDITS TO PC OVERHYPED ACTRESS IN INDIAN CINEMA
Ya its true to some extent....
Like if it is a (vishal bharadwaj, madhur bhandarkar, kjo, yrf , sanjay leela, anurag k)'s flick then ppl wtch it for 'em
This only happens with superstars. I remember when John Carter flopped last year, no one even remembered the name of the lead actor in the film.
The Script and the Director deserves all the credit. Actors are replaceable.
Yes ! they do!!! Poor director/ scriptwriter never gets the credit!!
I think RajKumar hirani will be an exception. People will go and watch his film irrespective of cast !!!hope so :)
When it's a hit - All the credit goes to the actor/actress
When it's a flop - It gets blamed on the director/writer
I love you FOR SAYING WEE BIT! OMG YES THEY DO!
