Kambakkht Ishq takes a hurricane-like start

Good news for Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar fans :)

The much-awaited biggie KAMBAKKHT ISHQ started with a bang last night. The film grossed 100% collections in paid previews on Thursday night. In Mumbai alone, the paid previews were held at 62 screens and the film garnered 100% collections. On Friday morning, the early morning shows, i.e. 9.30 am / 10 am shows opened to 90% - 95% occupancy. Places like Rohtak [East Punjab circuit] collected Rs. 55,000 nett against Rs. 60,000 house full capacity. Amritsar will be collecting Rs. 1 lac, which is over-capacity by 200/250 audience. Lucknow was 90% - 95% in morning shows. The audience report is very positive.

UPDATED:

Kambakkht Ishq is doing extraordinary business all over. The film started phenomenal in the North and excellent elsewhere but by afternoon and late afternoon shows the film is recording extraordinary collections practically all over the country.

The media reviews are negative on the film but the paying public seems to be giving it the thumbs up though Monday collections will give better idea of public response. The film has been running for a few shows as yet but at looking at the huge release and the collections so far the film looks set to cross the 25 and 26 crore nett weekend collections of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Singh Is Kinng respectively.

The record Friday to Sunday collections including paid previews of Ghajini were 32 crore nett and this target may be tougher to reach.

PERFORMANCE Akshay Kumar is

PERFORMANCE
Akshay Kumar is in terrific form and has carried his reputation, built from such flicks as ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and ‘Namastey London’, to new heights. ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ belongs to Akshay Kumar all the way. It is his great comic timing that holds the film together for two plus hours.

In the character of a stuntman, Viraj, Akshay Kumar is in his elements and uses the opportunity to re-establish his command over the medium (of course, after a dismal performance by his last release ‘Chandni Chowk to China). In the first half of the film, the battle of sexes between Akshay and Kareena raises the temperature of theatre.

Kareena Kapoor
Kareena Kapoor, who plays the character of Simrita Rai, looks sizzling hot and provides ample oomph factor to the movie. She has superbly combined the histrionics with her terrific sex appeal, which was a must, as she plays a part time super model in the film.

Her hardened feminine attitude and supreme confidence, with which he encounters Akshay Kumar’s sexist views, makes her a treat to watch. Kareena’s character of Simrita seems to well connect with her earlier avatar in Karan Johar’s super duper hit flick ‘Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gham’. Even snobbishness of ‘Poo’(Kareena’s character in K Jo’s flick) is there. No doubt, only Kareena Kapoor could have provided the required shades to this character of Simrita Rai.

Amrita Arora
Amrita Arora, who plays the character of a top lingerie model Kamini, enacts her character with ease. In any case, she has been a model and Kareena’s bosom friend in real life too, so it was not difficult for her to enact the similar character.

Aftab Shivdasani
Aftab Shivdasani, who plays the part of Lucky, younger brother of Akshay Kumar, is perfectly suited to the character. He looks sincere in his approach and successfully creates the aura of a persona completely in love with Amrita’s character.

However, Javed Jaffrey fails to impress, but it is hardly his fault. Kirron Kher seems to be enjoying doing the same role over and over again (but what about the viewer?). Boman Irani looks natural. Hollywood biggies Stallone, Richards and Brandon Routh have been beautifully integrated in this bollywood flick.

The direction of Sabbir Khan seems to have the sole purpose of entertaining the masses and he has succeeded in this intention by keeping the pace of the film very fast in the first half. He should be given the credit to bring a new subject of ‘battle of sexes’ between Kareena and Akshay before the audience, though novelty ends at that point, and it is Akki and Kareena’s histrionics that holds the film together.

STARDUST VERDICT
‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is glitzy, entertaining and full paisa vasool venture mounted on a grandiose scale. Akshay and Kareena provide all the ingredients required for a bollywood potboiler at the box office. Kareena oozes oomph and the hoi polloi is likely to lap up this venture, despite of some weak moments in the second half. Even the drought of a biggie from bollywood for last two months should help the film at the box office.

I saw the movie last

I saw the movie last night.
One friendly advice - PLEASE DO NOT WATCH IT.
As much as I love Kareena and Akki - This is one of the worst movies of the year!
It's not worth it.
I am not blaming Kareena, she done her part every nicely. And she looked pretty. It's the director, script writer and Akshay who should take the blame.
I can't remember how many times they 'WTF' !!
I should have read the reviews first. Sify gave it 2/5 and Indiatimes something similar and they are right, it's not worth your money!
