Okay, if you want to look ‘hip-n-happening ’ this wedding season, you can’t be wearing anything else but a sharara. While the film, Agent Vinod may have failed to set the box office ablaze, Kareena Kapoor’s bright pink Manish Malhotra sharara she wore for her mujra number, Dil Mera Muft K is a sure shot hit, proving once again that Bollywood is a big trend-setter in the fashion world.

The garment has become a rage with girls and young brides, and designers and city stores report a huge sale. Fashion designer Reynu Taandon says, “ I am getting umpteen orders for shararas from brides and newly-married women. They are asking for modern cuts, just like Kareena’s.”

Designer Rina Dhaka too says sharara is the biggest trend this wedding season. “The traditional Muslim attire looks stunning on a bride. Kareena’s sharara has spurred a new interest in the outfit, and lots of girls are going in for the look.” Designer Gautam Gupta of Vinayak Couture too is busy stocking up the outfit. “It’s become an absolute must for brides. It’s reminding me of the craze that Madhuri Dixit set for the green and white lehenga after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.”

Online stores are also selling replicas of Bebo’s sharara. Vishal Singh, of ladyselection.com says, “I have sold more than 200 shararas online to NRIs.” Bebo, no wonder, is delighted to hear this. “It’s wonderful news. I have to thank Manish for helping me set new trends,” says the actor.

It is not a SHARARA by any stretch of imagination. It is a GHARARA. I can't believe Manish Malhotra doesn't know his sharara from a gharara. Oops forgot he hardly knows the traditional clothing of India.

GHARARA=Lucknawi by origin, that splits the sharara into a wide two legged pant with lots of gather. For reference, and a filmy one at that, check out scenes of Umrao Jaan, Rekha sports a gharara often.

Sharara has no such leg partition.

Pinkvilla get that right and kindly enlighten Manish Malhotra too.

It's like calling a shalwar- churidaar pyjama. !

You are so right! It is a GHARARA! I am from Allahabad and women in my family wore ghararas for generations. It is a North Indian muslim women outfit.

shararas have been worn by brides in pakistan for the past 60 yrs. there is no reason for it being a rage or the latest trend
