'Only original films should be sent to the Oscars': Irrfan Khan
Recently, Barfi! was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars for 'Best Foreign Language Film' after garnering much critical acclaim and commercial success. Barfi was selected from a list of 17 films (including Irrfan Khan's Paan Singh Tomar),drawn up by the Film Federation of India, as India's entry for the category of 'Best Foreign Language Film'. Speaking to TOI , Irrfan says, "It was tougher to work with Ang Lee than Danny Boyle. Lee pushes you. He will be in India by the end of this month. The film is a strong contender for the Best Film Oscar this year. I wish we would be as serious about Oscars in our country! Oscars affect your market hugely. In spite of knowing that a few scenes from Barfi! have been copied, our film federation chose it over something which is original. How can that film stand a chance of making it to the nomination list?" Irrfan Khan and Danny Boyle worked together in the multiple Oscar winning film, 'Slumdog Millionaire',which released in 2008. Irrfan,also, worked with Ang Lee on the much awaited 'Life Of Pi' due to release later this year for which he is recieving rave reviews for from the international press. I somewhat agree with Irrfan. Barfi was awesome movie & i luved it. Luved PC & RK. But what about the plagiarism :( Now get ready for the embarrassment as soon as Firangis find out about the plagiarism :/ I still believe that Film Federation of India should have considered Kahaani or Paan Singh Tomar. Anyways let's see if Barfi makes it even to the nominations (I have no hopes from Barfi winning the Oscar)

Watch the Korean films Lover's Concerto, Christmas in August, the Japanese film Kikujiro to name a few....

Love this guy for speaking the TRUTH!
Love this guy! One of the best actors of our generation. Paan singh Tomar was an original...Irrfan was great in the movie. The movie showed him progressing in age from early 20s to 50s-60-s...he looked young when he had to and old when he had to. He didn't look like an older guy dressed up as a young fellow. The physicality was amazing coz he was an athelete in the movie. Truly appreciate such work...these kinds of movies are few and far between.

Irfan is stereotype, in his whole career he has done same kinds of intense role again and again. His last commercial is Thank you, so he try to do like others celebs but can't pull of.
So, he has no right to comments others successful movie.

Life of Pi has more chances to be at Oscars than Barfi does, then why would Irfan be bitter? He is just stating the truth.
Barfi was definitely a better movie. there is no need to even discuss that he's just mad his film didnt have all the positive hype that the rest had

let me explain this to you: the peoblem is that freida, dev, anil walked away with all the glory of the slumdog's oscar win and irrfan well didn't get much.
in this fil however, he plays the lead and who gets the attention if the movie was to get the nomination??well i think even you can figure that out!!!!!!!!!!!

I still dont think RK is better than Imran .. Imran is extremely talented and underrated .. sorry ..tht is not even the point.. point is Barfi is copied and these shameless guys want to put India to shame by sending it to Oscars!
i agree with someone that said ranbir kapoor is way better actor than irrfan. he's just jealous. as others noticed it's just sour grapes and nothing more. best of luck for barfi and ranbir and priyanka. i'm pretty sure it will create a buzz at oscars at least and take the country one step further at the international platform....
Everyone knows Barfi is a total copycat movie like majority of Bollywood productions. The fact that they deny copying other movies just makes Indians look so bad. I hate it when they copy scenes, theme and even looks from the other movies and then have the gall to submit it as their own production and then act offended when they are told that they copied another movie. Um! No, it was not inspired, it has been copied shamelessly.
I agree with Irfaan that only original productions should be sent. I am tired of trying to defend Bollywood to my gora friends.

Barfi do have scenes exactly lifted from few HW movies but it gets more appreciation, catches more eyeballs, garner more money and will recieve more awards for sure..

Wish Anurag Basu had taken minimal dose of "inspiration." Despite all that Ranbir- PC's power packed performance deserves AN Oscar nomination!

Barfi is better than PST. Irfan's same acting again again.Al least barfi has Ranbir kapoor .

Yes this does sound like sour grapes. I love Irrfan and I enjoyed his performance in Paan Singh Tomar, in fact he was the only reason why I sat through the whole thing. I found it to be too slow and boring. Definitely not Oscar worthy. Barfi engages the audience and makes us feel something... truly effective cinema should have these elements.

Agree with Irfan Khan. Well first of all he is not a person who will bash others without any reason. We don' t have any past record of his controversial statements. So whatever he is saying is because he DID work really hard on this movie & it shows in PST. So did Anurag Basu in"Barfi" Barfi is amazing movie no doubt BUT after knowing that the best scenes of Barfi were copied so shamelessly & than Mr.Anurag Basu comes & claim that everything about Barfi is original is pathetic IMO. We as an audience are NOT fool. i do not think it deserves that much critical & commercial acclaim its getting. Those scenes were NOT inspired they were simply COPIED.When you watch PST it's an amazing movie and should get more recognition in which everything is ORIGINAL!!!
