India has reasons to celebrate.

The Time magazine released its list of The 10 Greatest Movies of the Millennium (Thus Far) and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas' made it to #8.

Also, Raj Kapoor's 1951 movie 'Awara' was the latest addition to the All-TIME 100 list of the greatest films made since 1923 .

Devdas was probably the first movie where ash blew me away by her performance...before that,i never used to take her seriously as an actress.she looked so ravishing back then...
congrats to the entire team! :)

^^I agree, especially in the last scene her acting gave me chills! But she did quality work before Devdas too - HDDCS, Iruvar, Taal, Kandukondain, Jeans, etc.

And BTW, this is not the first time Devdas was mentioned by the TIME magazine. In 2010, it was mentioned among "The 100 Best Films Of World Cinema." It was India's official entry to the Oscars. and was also nominated for a BAFTA award. Received a major screening at Cannes too. This was one film that was always meant to go global and did.

Devdas is not a remake. It is an adaptation of Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel of the same name.

If I had to introduce Bollywood to someone abroad, this is the first film I make them watch. They are in awe of this film. The performances, direction, sets, screenplay, dances, grandeur. Everything was topnotch. I'm proud at least one Indian film got a mention, considering how much garbage is churned out in Bollywood these days.

Millennium means since the year 2000. Please don't huff and puff, its embarrassing to witness.
Devdas was good costume drama and the movie has repeat value, but the whole list is a bit of a mess.

Devdas is epic!! Thanx to Devdas (and Aishwarya in particular) I started to watch indian films, and discovered a whole new world of cinema. For sure one of the best films ever made. Ash rules!!!

First the title is really wrong.. All the movies were of last decade and not 100 years. The list on the website is so hated by all the users. In the last 10 years not a single Indian movie deserve to be there.

The Hollywood choices were even worse.. Moulign Rouge, the Artist etc... these are all not among the best in the past 10 years.

Lets not take the list seriously, since Wall-E is no 1! I went to site and everybody is saying how stupid the list is. It was subjective anyway. Good for Devdas though, regardless of the reliability of the list.

Blah!!

Devdas is a masterpiece.

What is the reason to celebrate? India produces 7 times more the no. of films than Hollywood but in this list only 1 Indian movie and other 7-8 are Hollywood movies. Very bad.

Quantity does not mean Quality. And so many of my favourites have turned out to be copies that it's very disheartening. Even Devdas is a remake and Awara was inspired by charlie chaplin.

Love Devdas and HDDCS of SLB :)

Raj Kapoor's 'Awara' is better than all SLB movies ...

Yeah, but to be fair most of those films produced by bollywood are embarassing nonsense compared to the rest of world cinema. The best films in India recently 3 idiots, Dabbang, Wanted, etc would be laughed at and viewed as mediocre by most people outside India.

You can't just be given awards for mass producing a film like Dabbang or Tees Maar Khan.

Devdas doesn't deserve to be there. It had good music and great costumes, but SLB's direction is so bad and full of dragged out over-acting in all his films.

Wow that's excellent news! Congrats to the Devdas team, that's a huge recognition of their hard work and talents! I love Devdas so much, it's definitely on my personal top ten so cool that it's on Time's top ten list!
