Saif ali khan : An underrated superstar??
Like many actors, Saif too didn't have a memorable beginning in bollywood. 1. Dil Chahta Hai : As aamir and akshaye's friend in the film, Saif was adorable. He brought in a lot of fresh energy with him and his comic timing was impeccable and his performance spontaneous, and the critics sat up and took notice of this amazing actor's fresh innings in bollywood. 2. Ek Hasina thi : While every one thought that saif can do chocloate boy roles only, he gave them a bummer with his strong performance as an evil guy in this sriram's dark thriller. 3. Hum Tum : Saif's first big hit as a Solo Hero, gave him recognition with the masses and he made it to the A list actors. He got a National Award for this film. 4. Parineeta : As a man who presumes his childhood love is cheating on him with another man, Saif gave a matured performance and his growth as an actor could be easily seen. 5. Kal Ho Naa Ho : Saif had a supporting role in the film and was pitted against Shahrukh Khan, still he made this role memorable and his standing as a bankable star got stronger. 6. Omkara : If after Gabbar singh, u can think of any negative character who had more impact than the hero, it has to be Langda Tyagi, hands down. Saif as the evil Iago frm Othello, gave his best performance so far. He was the highlight of the film and overshadowed everyone else in the film. This film cemented Saif's position as the most versatile actor in today's time. 7. Love Aaj Kal : Saif turned producer with this film and played two different characters. His Romantic side was in full display as the cute looking turban wearing sardarji and as a modern man in a long distance relationship. He was a breath of fresh air in this imitiaz ali directed film. 8. Race : Saif was again the central attraction of this glamorous film, his performance was good and the film was a huge hit. And the list goes on and on. Saif has had his fair share of flops too. But he has showcased a wide variety of roles in those films too. Also, Saif is also one of the most prominent faces in Indian Advertisement market, with him endorsing a large range of products and holding a significant percentage of the market share. Saif has all what it takes to be a superstar, yet his name is not spoken in the same breath as the other 3 khans - Aamir, Shahrukh and Salman. Like a lot of people including kareena, I too think he is India's answer to Johnny Depp. What do you think of him as an actor and ur favorite Saif's performance so far??

It's true he was an awful actor when he started out just like Abishek Bachan.
He has really improved and has a distinct look which puts him in a niche. He's able to make fun of himself in his roles and can play unassuming confident types and villains who are striving to do right somewhere.
Exclusive matching with Kareena and Deepika doesn't work, but parirings with most of the remaining crop of actresses doesn't either.
I think his new releases are going to establish him more.
salman cannot act. SRK can act like SRK and and not the character. Aamir is taking his " great actor/perfectionist" tag too seriously. Saif is able to keep the right balance that any good actor needs. He is quite mature and refined in all his performances.

He could have done better if he would make movies with other actresses and not only with Kareena.
Unfortunately Kareena does not want him to act with others...........so poor guy he will always be underrated!!

He should start making movies with Priyanka, Katrina, Aishwarya, Bipasha, Sonakshi and Sonam.
I agree. I find Saif's acting more versatile then Salman, Shahrukh, Aamir and Akshay. Salman is doing the same-comedy, taking his shirt off, and fighting the villain again and again, same with Akshay. Sharukh is (apart from Chak De India and Swadesh), the same Raj and Rahul romancing girls all and all over again. Aamir (apart from 3-4 exceptions- TJP, Sarfarosh, Lagan) is always the "Raja' type- fearless, self centered, egoistic person(there is hardly any important role for any of the women characters in his movies) . Saif is very versatile. I loved him as Lagda Tyagi,and in Parineeta. Also, I find the same reasoning for Abhishek Bachan. His earlier acting was bad like Saif's, but it has improved a lot. He may have churned out flop after flop, but as an actor, he does mature roles , and not the singing-dancing with heroine , or bollywood-hero centric masala movies . KHJJS, DMD, Guru, Yuva, BM,Sarkaar,Dostana all roles were very unconventional and nontraditional (Although his acting was bad in Raavan). But both Abhishek, and Saif do not have the 'star-power' or style factor(like Sharukh), or a handsome face (like Ranbir), or six pack abs, or a cute chocolate boy look(like Imran), or a fab body(like Salman, Hritik, Sanjay) to woo the audience/girls. Both come out as decent, intelligent, well spoken , sensible guys. But audience doesn't see their 'traditional hero avtaar ' in them-fighting the villain, and wooing the girl, and hence there is no blind fan following for Abhi and Saif(like the fan following of SRK and Sallu). That's why both are not able to give blockbusters, or be labelled as superstars.
Some guys are a James Bond wanna be. They try soooooooo hard to be cool is not even funny. If you are one of those guys, then you may want to

Saif is always at his coolest best. The dude is so confident so confident, (not overconfident) God I can see why Kareena left Shahid for him. I really love him in a negative role. He is so good at been badass Saif is awesome.
Well, I'll start off by saying that the 3 Khans in my books were always SRK, Salman and Saif ( I have never taken a big liking to Aamir).
It seems like a lot of people who have posted comments on this topic don't know of him before Dil Chahta Hai or just started liking him because everyone else was doing it.
While the topic maker seems to appreciate Saif post DCH - I have been a fan of Saif's for a long time.
I used to love his hair, voice, dramatic dancing - all of those things which, in my opinion made him unique. These things, unfortunately have now changed.
Haven't you guys seen Yeh Dillagi, Yeh Hai Mumbai Meri Jaan, Hameshaa ( one of my all time favorite love stories with one of the best soundtracks of ALL TIME even though it was plagiarized heavily....), Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Aarzoo, Kya Kehna, Keemat... While these movies may not have been blockbuster hits, the stories were cute, fun, cliched and typical bollywood movies - which i think we have all learned to appreciate even more so now with the crap put out these days.
His movies always had wicked songs as well.
To sum it all up, I'm sorry but i just dont like the new Saif. He totally changed after he became popular. Most people think it's for the better but i think he's lost that quirky-ness that made him so lovable in the 90's.
Although i am happy that eventually he did get his due - i wish it were for a movie that he excelled in. if you want to talk about underrated and not getting their due....Bobby Deol, Sunil Shetty, Ajay Devgan ( to an extent )...I could go on and on....

I personally love Saif Ali Khan and I do think he is underrated-but that's life. I feel he has the potential to go further ahead but he is in a double edged sword situation in his relationship with Kareena. One one hand, Saif and Kareena as a couple are a great brand with great marketability. However, if you notice, since Saif has been with Kareena the number of roles he is doing has plummeted. Now he is only being allowed to do movies with Deepika or Kareena as his costars-because Kareena is a control freak. Deepika and Saif share a terrible onscreen chemistry together and simply do not mesh. I suggest Saif man up and stop letting Kareena control his career so much.
Is Saif underrated? I don't think so. Is he a superstar? I don't think so.
I liked him in Being Cyrus, Omkara, Eklavya, and Ek Haseena Thi... basically dramas. I don't like seeing him in romantic comedies because I find him about as handsome and sexy as Om Puri. Just my opinion.
Bollywood industry is a big joke. Salman get's applaud for his weak no so funny performances in his comedy/not films, While mature and magnificent actors like Saif is underrated. Saif ali khan and Arjun rampal is one of the very few in this industry who actually CAN act fin films. The rest is just famous out of nothing.
From his movies in the 90s he has indeed improved and boy were they crap. However, I do not consider him an A lister. He is not one of the best out there. And pleeeaaasssse spare me the horror abt the national win Mommy fixed it ofcourse. Hum Tum's performance was NOTHING to gush about.

he is the best looking khan, his acting skills matches that of amir khan and certainly better than both srk and salman khan, his personality tops the three khans and don't forget the age factor, he is 5 years younger to them all, a real life prince , and with bebo by his side , i don't think he needs anything else to be THE SUPER STER of bollywood, hope agent vinod will be a blockbuster....i love saifu and thanks for the post.

he deserves to have a best actor award he is pure versatile compared to salman khan sticking to comedy after comedy and same with srk his being repeating his base, aamir is versatile and i aint gna argue over him, his had his fair share of flops and hits, its been 5 yrs now his doing great never know saif might go through similar luck, which he already gt a national award and flimfare in other role nt best actor yet which salman got nothing his so overrated. p.s saif is one lucky guy to have kareena, shame shes so top compared to him...she won several flimfares incl best actrese and now the wax work in madam tuasad. thats something saif might not get kareena has a mass apeal compared to all bollywood heroines and some hero;s too.

He is cute at times, handsome and sexy at others. Great performance in Omkara. Looks regal off screen and has a hot, talented girlfriend.....that's it, nothing more nothing less. Charming?.....yes,.....Superstar?......don't think so.
I think you mean underrated actor - which I don't agree with. In the 90s, he did some terrible acting in a lot of his earlier movies. After a decade, I did see improvement in him as an actor in Dil Chahta Hai. But I think it is totallyclear that his National Award was fixed because his mother was the chairperson of the Censor board of India. Also, Hum Tum was nothing extraordinary. He was better in films like Ek Haseena Thi. He has improved. But a great actor? Absolutely not.
That why he could never become a big superstar is debatable, because stardom has a lot more to do with other things than just acting.

Oh yeah. I saw him at the mega mela in Bham NEC years back. Rahul khanna was a lot more friendlier and charming than him. Hmm. He seems more reserved than the other Khans. Sometimes talent alone cant take you far, u need a personality too. Especially with the fans. He is still a good actor. And, he hasn't really been in the media for the wrong reasons (except his divorce, Rosa etc). He hasn't had any fall outs with co stars. Well I've not heard of any. He also had bad health at one point where he was admitted to hospital. Am I right.
Saif is not underrated as an actor (he has won the Pasmashree and national award). However he is underrated as a superstar, especially when compared to all the other khans.
No he's not underrated. He got his due and now he's not picking the right roles for his age.
He is well dressed, well spoken, has a great sense of humour, his taste in women has finally improved, he is selecting the right movies! Good on him!
