Hum Paanch
It is the story of a middle-class white-collar worker, Anand Mathur, who always finds himself in trouble because of his five daughters — Meenakshi, Radhika, Sweety, Kajal, and Chhoti. The three elder daughters are Anand and his first wife's children. The last two are Anand and Bina's daughters.Together, the five daughters planned to do something new in every episode. Anand's first wife, who is dead, used to speak to him through her portrait on the living room wall; his second wife, Bina, generally supported the daughters' ideas. The show was a runabout success, helping to establish Zee TV.
Khichdi
follows the story of a Gujarati family called Parekhs, who live in an old mansion. The joint family encounters many typically Indian situations, but they try to solve it in the most atypical fashion imaginable. This is a funny bunch of people that is firmly united in their movement to get separated. They want to sell their ancestral property and move out and form their own nuclear families. But the head of their family does not agree. He gives them the choice to walk out and survive on their own; but nobody is ready to let go of the money that is due to them. So they stay together and wait for the 'head' to change his mind or stop breathing, whichever happens first. And this is where the upwardly mobile middle class joint family faces its trials and tribulations. Khichdi is a look at the lighter side of an Indian joint family. probably best comedy serial ever
SARABHAI VS SARABHAI
The show revolves around the life of a fictional Gujarati family, the Sarabhais. They are portrayed as a typical family in the class of elite socialites of Mumbai. They live in a luxurious apartment in Sarabhai mansion located in the upmarket Cuffe Parade area of South Mumbai.
The family consists of Indravadan Sarabhai (Satish Shah) and his wife Maya (Ratna Pathak), who live in an apartment with their younger son Rosesh (Rajesh Kumar). Their older son Sahil (Sumeet Raghavan) and his wife Monisha Sarabhai (Rupali Ganguly) née Manisha Singh live in the apartment across the hallway. Maya considers the name Manisha middle class and renames her Monisha before their marriage. The middle-class habits of Monisha irk Maya. Monisha, on the other hand, does not appreciate Maya's snooty and snobbish behaviour. Indravadan constantly derides Roshesh for being tied to his mother's apron strings and for writing bad poetry. Maya and Roshesh consider Indravadan's attitude towards Rosesh and his gregarious nature boorish. The ensuing conflict and comedy becomes Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. Much of the humour is derived from the fake, artificial and shallow interactions among the city's elite and their perceived notions of the shortcomings and failings of middle-class society.
OFFICE OFFICE
The series is based on the rampant corruption and bribery seen in public offices. The story revolves around Mussadilal who is often harshly treated by the corrupt officials.A movie which is adapted upon the TV serial, was created as a Bollywood movie titled "Chala Mussaddi... Office Office". It was released on 5 August 2011, and opened to mostly negative reviews from critics. Most top-critics pointed out that the tele-serial is much, much better than the film
My favorite is khichadi , sarabhai vs sarabhai and what about yours ????

Hey, you have posted HIMYM's picture too! nice. I love it too, even though its not old enough to be missed.
This post should be on the front page of PV.
OMG i love this post! :D
1. Khichdi (season1) & instant khichdi (S:2): The best INDIAN sitcom ever!
2. Sarabhai vs sarabhai : The *VERY CLOSE* second best INDIAN sitcom ever!
Gosh i miss them so much! And these two shows were actually one of the very first indian shows that adopted the western trend of coming in seasons. Making fresh episodes with fresh ideas and never giving viewers, like me, a chance to get bored of them.
Today, indian sitcoms are such crap! they disgust me (chidiya ghar anyone?) and those who used to be good have lost their charm a long time ago... because they never end! (TMKOC)
I can rant on and on and on about how much i hate todays tv but its not gonna change the fact that its not gonna change any time soon. thanx to Ekta kapoor and her influence on indian tv, directly or indirectly. oh well, i can atleast watch american shows like How i met your mother. who needs indian shows! :P
And there is one more show i remember watching when i was a kid - Tu tu main main! LOL i know it sounds stupid but it was very funny and i liked it, maybe its because i was a kid back then! ;)
Thanks again for this awesome post! :)
wow there were actually quality serials back in the day, now it's just....well I'm glad I was lucky enough to watch and learn from them.
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai
Jaya Bachchan's Dekh Bhai Dekh was the best!!
None. Even the best ones get jaded and boring after 50 episodes.
Some desi soaps are torture. Who in their right mind enjoys the many hundreds of episodes?
they should be used to punish petty criminals as an alternate penalty to community time and quizzed at the end to prove they have been truly punished. Can reform juveniles.
Used to watch Filmi Chaker and Hum Paanch when I was a kid
I love hum paanch
please include filmi chakkar also... i cant find its single video online
However... sarabhai is the bestest comedy ever. I have watched this serial atleast 100 times and looked around for 10th cuff parade in bombay.. gosh, i m still just crazy abt it !!!
Sarabhai vs sarabhai
