Undeserving people claim to be number 1:Kangna
In an interview to TOI Kangana seems to be hinting at some undeserving actress who claims to be #1. Who do you think it is ??:) You've said you'd like to be number one in the industry? I believe that competition should be healthy, and I'd like to be number one, but sometimes it's confusing. What's the criteria of being number one in the industry? Sometimes it's being really loved and wanted by the audience and getting the best films in terms of meaty roles and films which will have a wide audience. Is that what being a number-one actress is all about? Then I'd love to be that. But sometimes, a few people who are not worth it, claim to be number one in the industry, and you definitely don't want to be in their place. So you think sometimes people in the film industry consider themselves number one even though they're not deserving of the title? Yes.

Isn't it funny that eveyday somoene is calling herself a number one!!!
The last number one was Sridevi who ruled for over a decade. After her maximum a heroine could sustain a position for two years only.
This is coming from the same person who did rascals, double dhamaal, no problem etc. over the past few years. She is talented but I think she herself doesn't know what kind of roles she wants to aim for and doesn't have the guts to go for unconventional roles. So she ends up doing whatever crap she is offered. A little more versatility when choosing her roles can actually pave the way for the top like Vidya as she in my opinion is immensely talented.
She should focus on her work and keep these kinds of comments to herself since she's nowhere near the number one spot herself. She's complaining about fake winners when she's not even really in the race.
She just comes off like she's a bit bitter and jealous of whomever she's taking a swipe at. Maybe I'm wrong but her comments rub me the wrong way.

Guys let's not forget about konkana sen sharma - she's an amazingly talented and versatile actress. There were many before her too- the difference is that back then meaty roles for actresses were usually in parallel cinema which has a niche audience that was not in the mainstream or capable of drawing similar audiences. Vidya is not the first or most talented Bollywood actress to have graced Hindi cinema - but she was the first to get the mainstream following (I.e. B.O. Success) without the brand recognition of any hero (ie on her own) in addition to getting critical acclaim.
Preach it, Kangs!! Well, at least she's honest and fearless! And, by the way, this numero uno thingy is so hilarious and ridiculous... In Hollywood, everyone coexists rather peacefully, everyone has their special talent, their special looks, their special quality, their own imperfection - because nobody's perfect, go figure; catfights and rivalries between artists are really rare or none at all... There is respect for their peers, or at least, there is enough respect on the surface in order to coexist rather civilized in the industry...No one proclaims oneself as numero uno bla bla bla. If they did, they would become the laughing stock of the audience. Lol, Bollywood is so silly sometimes.

Kangana has a point, but all things considered one needs to look at how being rated a top actress is actually considered ie namely talent or popularity. In terms of talent I would say Rani still rates as no. 1, based on the diversification of her roles from Kuch Kuch, Bunty ur Bubbly, Black, Dil Bole Hadippa, and NOKJ...she has set the benchmark for a very high standard in terms of quality of performance and genres she has tackled...ie drama, comedy, suspense, glamour, deglamour, from being the central lead to playing a supporting role, she makes her presence known and her performance is always lauded. She has garnered the respect of the industry based on her talent, not popularity, as this came as a result of her performance. Rani is like the Meryl Streep of Bollywood, she may not have the greatest fan following, and off screen remains private, but onscreen they are revered for their talent. She may not have many brand endoresement (if any) and she may not have the paycheck of the more glamourous actresses, but talentwise she is unmatchaeble.
In terms of popularity I think Kareena has achieved the No.1 status based on her looks, glamour, somewhat cocky attitude and doing as many movies as possible in a period of time. Thus she is a favourite amongst directors when it comes to choosing a "heroine" who at most is meant to stand two steps behind the hero and be content. By her own admission she has stated that when u the heroine opposite a Khan u have to be content to ride sucess on their coattails and realise the sucess of the movie is a result of their presence rather than your acting.Bebo's asking price is that of a superstar and surprisingly (according to industry stalwarts) she gets her price. She may not be the most talented of actresses but her status is achieved becuase of her marketibility and "brand" quality. Her endorsement kitty far outweighs that of her male counterparts (16 and counting).
Presently there is no actress who has both the popularity and talent. Unfortunately Ashwariya was never Bollywood's most talented and neither is Priyanka Chopra. Their multi faceted roles are more like costume changes and different hairpieces than someone who is actually a different character with each costume change. while both enjoy a huge fan following (more PR and twitter followers), their talent somewhat precludes them from being the complete package. Vidya Balan is more flavour of the month rather than the "best actress Bollywood has".Her Dirty Picture was more media hype surrounding "the porn quality of her character" and her ditching her good girl image to play a character completely opposite to her desi image, than her acting ability. I never believed that she broke the glass celing for woman centric roles, as this was sucessfuly done by actresses well before her entrance, namely Nargis Dutt, Madhubala, Jaya Badhuri, Waheeda Rehman, Shabana Azmi, etc. Of late there has been a gap in the industry for "talented actresses" as the latest crop of wannabees were merely confection and candyfloss and screen fillers.
Please Kangna is plastic from head to foot, who is she to point out others faults and act like some saint? Look how ordinary she looks in this picture. If weren't for all the collagen and silicon in her body she would be a nobody.
what kangana said is completely true but the thing is that the audience doesn't really care about the actors performances anymore. Today, it's all about glam, sexiness and shedding clothes in the industry. It's such a pity because having watched all kinds of different films from all over the world the ones from Bollywood seemed most real to me, especially the ones from the 90s. Technically the films are better for sure but we should better not talk about the content of todays blockbusters with leading ladies of Bollywood dancing to some songs and delivering dialogues for only 10 minutes in the whole movie. Fortunately there are still some who want to change the downfall like Vidya Balan or Priyanka Chopra. I just hope that people open their eyes soon and Bollywood becomes what it once was again.
I do not like Kangana's dialogue delivery but there are far worse actresses in Bollywood than her. Sonam Kapoor for example has almost a few set of expressions that she uses in her films (of course she's newer than Kangana) but still, people hype up Sonam so much. Yes, she has good fashion sense and also with the money she's making, she can afford them. But her acting skills are terrible. I wanted to walk out of Mausam half way through partly due to her acting. Kangana is better than that. According to me, Vidya, Kareenad and Prinyanka are the best in bollywood in terms of bringing in the audience and acting. Another girl to look out for is Parineeti. She's proved herself in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and I hope she dazzles us again.

she is not referring 2 katrina, Katrina never claim 2 b no 1. she is definitely referring 2 kareena who doesn't deserve it but only riding on khans and kapoors name. But in coming 1 year, she will vanish because she is aging badly with fatness.

Some people get the opportunity to work with best directors like slb,raju hirani,etc but cannot be called no.1, then there are actresses like pc who bags meaty roles but dont do any justice to the characters they are playing n still claim to be no. 1
Vidya, kangana and Anushka are the ones who have potential in them to be at the top

I totally agree. People from filmy lineage get more credit. When Kareena is referred to as number 1 I find it laughable. I think that perhaps if Vidya keeps it up she can occupy that slot but it has been un-occupied since the Madhuri/Kajol era.
talking about Kareena kapoor ....who else. She is the only one shouting on the rooftops claiming to be no. 1. What no 1..she gave only one decent hit which was Jab we met. Rest all the movies she was supporting actress to Khans.

Definitely Kareena Kapoor...as much as I like her I agree she is not the best actress or top heroine at the moment. Number one would probably belong to Vidya then Priyanka.

Kat has a look/personality that wins over an audience. Yes, acting wise one doesn't have to be number 1 to be called number 1. But Kat has improved in the acting abilities.
As for PC, she is definitely good. Her expressions are right on. Though as compared to Kareena, I still think PC is a step behind her.
PC calling herself number 1 (I am not sure, has she?) isn't to be taken so seriously. People say it in jest and also as a way of showing their confidence and positive self-esteem. It's like an affirmation. A faith in oneself and one's abilities. Like SRK does.. (though in his case, he is truly number 1).
