What's Up with Evian Water?
Evian water. This mineral water from France has a rich history. It's been around since 1789 and is the water of choice of the rich and famous the world over ever since. When I first came across Evain, I liked it, was a bit perplexed by its high price, comparable to it's pricey mineral water counterparts Perrier and Pellegrino. Yeah, I liked it for sure, but never gave much thought to it. It is just water after all. However, I have come across many cultural references to it in many situations. For example, Bipasha's movie star character in the movie 'Bachna Ae Hashino' gets mad at her assistant when she hands her a regular water bottle instead of Evian, which she had asked for, and then she goes crazy on her assistant yelling " I had asked for Evian, not sewer water!" Reese Witherspoon's character Jennifer in the movie 'Pleasantville' asks for it when she time travels back to the 50's and lands in a traditional greasy spoon diner with her brother David. When she's asked to order she orders 'a salad and a bottle of Evian water' ! If you happened to have spent any time with any aspiring model in NYC (which I unfortunately have), you would notice they all ask for salad and Evian water in a restaurant!! I have read many tips from Hollywood stylists advising spraying Evain on face and hair for freshness and just sheer fabulousness!! And just today, having lunch with a friend, I almost laughed when she picked up Evian and salad from the over priced Deli down the block. You would be surprised, our ultra luxurious Indian royalty drank this water back in the days. They used to import it by cart load from Europe. They did not drink Indian water!! I find this extreme extravagance outrageous and fascinating because of it's outrageousness. In her ghost written biography, Maharani Gayatri Devi describes an incident involving Evian in her husband's home, Rambagh Palace, Jaipur. It was war time and Gayatri Devi was trying to cut back unnecessary spending in her palace and cataloging everything in the household including the pantry. She discovered that they had a pantry so vast, so fabulous that Fortnum & Mason, the luxury grocery and household supplies store in UK, would have looked like a corner Mom & Pop shop in front of it. She also discovered the maids were regularly helping themselves to the supply of Evian water bottles, among other things. Even the dog of their English governess drank nothing but Evian!! Anyone has any funny Evian story to share?

You know what I did not understand the buzz with Evian because recently I bought bottled water from a drug store but I usually prefer using Brita and causing less harm to the environment. I rarely ever buy bottled water but this time I bought Evian only because it was the cheapest one in that store and trust me there were other brands like Dasani and Aquafina which were actually more expensive! I am pretty sure it was authentic Evian since I bought it from a pretty well known drug store in Canada. I don't know why people prefer Evian since to me, it tasted pretty crappy and I didn't get sweet taste that you usually get from mineral water. So, I don't know if it is just me. At the end of the day, water is water and if you are a snob even when it comes to your water, you will have a hard time living in the real world.
Everyone, please don't drink plastic bottled water......the chemical in the plastic is released in the water and is very bad for your immune system. Drink glass bottled water if you must. Best is to get a good quality water filter for home and carry your own water.

Another cute post! Demi Moore used to bathe with it. Or so an urban legend has it.
Reading your comments sitting in a water shop (yes water shop) in New Zealand, and yes there are a few cases of Evian. Interestingly, many people don't like Evian, but often can't say why. Evian is rich in Calcium and Magnesium which makes it a relatively 'hard' water, quite different from purified waters. Cheers ;)
most bottled water taste the same. i don't go too much into the hype
It's funny to see that you perceive it as "the water of choice of the rich and famous", while here, in France, it's the most sold water... I can even tell you that it's the preferred water for newborns. There are other brand of waters, but once you're used to this one, you clearly see the difference.
When I am in India, I try to have Himalayan, because it's the closest to what Evian tastes like (and the packaging with the little tales is amazing :D). But since it's not always available, I settle for Bisleri or Bailley, and you can taste the difference.
All in all, no, water doesn't have the same taste from one brand to the other, it's pure science: different places, different minerals, soils etc ... affect the taste.
Evian tastes pure, fresh... untainted actually. No chemical taste, or limestone particles.
But I'll give you this: there are other waters that taste great. Evian isn't the only one.
What's so special about the water? it all taste the same to me....
to be really honest I never really gave this a thought, I just drink water! it just have to be clean! however,i think its all a big drama that evian is creating. to sell their product! they pay lots of money to movies to promote them, and poor models are gullable anyway so it won't matter.
btw? r u living in NYC? because they got noni juice at the farmer's market and its extremely good for u! better than this evian water ;D

I feel there is nothing special with Evian Water...Back here in Gulf it is sold with regular drinking bottled waters like Aquafina.
Anyways, Zam Zam (Holy Muslim Drinking Water) seems to be One of Best Drinking Waters. It seems if it is Bottled and kept aside for an Year.It won't be affected nor will insects fall in it.One who drinks it Once can stay without eating for a whole Week.
haha im actually drinking it right now and Evian is the only bottle water i purchase
