BAPPA LAHIRI WEDS TANEESHA VERMA

After the glittering Sangeet ceremony the previous night, Bollywood legend Bappi Lahiri's son, Composer Bappa Lahiri tied the knot with Taneesha Verma amidst exquisite settings at the ITC Grand Sheroton at Andheri last evening.

With the stage set for the mega wedding and the family and friends making their way to the beautifully adorned venue; the Groom dressed in a designer Beige Sherwani with embedded Gold work on it arrived in a regal double horse drawn chariot amidst widespread cheers. In a traditional gesture; Bappa got off his appointed horse, drew his sword from his scabbard and touched the picture of the Goddess at the entrance which was wonderfully adorned with flowers of all hues. Taneesha then emerged, dressed in a Red and Gold Lehnga; looking every bit the decked up Bride of the moment. Happiness was writ large on everybody's faces and the air was abuzz with anticipation. Bappi Da himself was dressed to the tee in his trademark gold accessories, shades and traditional Bengali Dhoti and Sherwani to match.The mother of the groom was absent as per Bengali tradition

This was followed by the Jaimala ceremony at the entrance with the friends of both the Groom and Bride trying to lift the other even higher so as not to make the other bend! After all the cheerful banter and fun and games; the couple proceeded to the Mandap followed by the assembled guests. The Mandap itself was a sight to behold. Done up in vibrant hues of red and gold and bedecked with lovely floral arrangements, it beckoned the gorgeous couple. The wedding rituals that followed were carried out in sync with traditional Bengali customs.

Superstar Salman Khan, surrounded with his bevy of body guards came by to wish the newly wed couple wearing a Lavender coloured tee shirt, black trousers and a his trademark gracious smile! He went straight to the Mandap and warmly hugged the happy couple. Manohar Verma then playfully mouthed one of Salman's famous dialogues - "Jacket De Na" to the Actor. Salman then put on the jacket and had a spent a few minutes talking to the Bride's Grandfather . He left soon after exchanging pleasantries with the family and blessing the couple again.

Also in attendance were Sophie Chowdhury who came in an elegant Peach Lace Sari, Designer Masaba, Politicos Jaya Prada,Rajiv Shukla and Amar Singh,Rupali Ganguly, Singer Sunidhi Chauhan. Shradha Kapoor came in a dazzling Beige and Gold Sharara.

And the touching and emotional finale was the bride going home in a traditional ‘doli’ lifted by her brothers and family members. The Lahiris celebrated the homecoming of their new Daughter in style! It turned out to be one memorable Bengali wedding, befitting of the Lahiri family and a wonderful occasion that rang true with today's joy and tomorrow's promise.
