I think at some point even the indian audience is to be blamed. They always want the women to look angelic on screen. Even in there is a Funeral scene in the film, our audience expect the women to be all caked up and look glamorous. Filmmakers only make what the people want. May be thats the reason, the shelflife of female actors is very short. Bollywood at present is flooded with overrated or must I say NON-actors. tell me one actress from the current lot who can do a 'DIL SE' or 'Khamoshi' or 'Bombay' with the finnese n elegance she handed them with. Aishwarya rai, deepika padukone, katrina kaif-------do they even match upto 50% of the talent manisha had? How dumb had the industry become, it doesnt matter if you can act or not, emote or not, be natural in frontt of the camera or not, what only matters is - you need to look good.
Why is bollywood so cruel to women? Men keep romancing 20 year old girls even after 60 and female actors are shown the doors at 30s? how bad? cant we learn something from hollywood? meryl streep gets nominated for oscars every year, sandra bullock wins an oscar at 45. i agree with all of u guys, even in her prime time she was so down to earth, as she is now, unlike madhuri - success really went into madhuris head.

I wish some of our filmmakers also read these comments and get to know the kind of image she has among people. she could have really gone article after article about her family connections but she never sold that image to Bollywood. she never tried to ride on her looks or heritage. yes, it's the truth that she's Prime-Minister's grand-kid-- but it was more important to her to up-play and live the females who were feminists and fought for women's rights. it's hard to believe that people are saying she was crazy to "put down" Madhuri and Sridevi-- coming from her level of a family connection-- she was never 'in awe' of top stars or anything. spoke her mind.. paid the price.. moved on. Bollywood's loss.
She's one fearless liberated woman who lives life on her own terms. She has a great sense of who she is and what she wants. In that sense she reminds me of Angelina Jolie.

Imagine this.. she has the guts to criticize the big bollywood stars and Subash , etc. because frankly, she was never fazed by the famous as she came from such a top ranking family-- of women educated and working before her! she is very very lovely-- but never wore pancake to up it... or play up her looks.. or play up her image. would this last in Bollywood, where producers liked to be celebrated and admired (and often let go of heroines who are 'attached')? no..

Manya does not advertise, but she's helped the females in Nepal. she is the staunches women's rights activists in the purest sense: she lives her rights. it's that simple. she's never ashamed of her bold lifestyle, rather she shows people the way.

What I like about her is , she is always so very down to earth. She doesn't show an ounce of arrogance. Being a true scion of the royal nepali family, she always dresses like any other middleclass working woman. No makeup, simple accessories and above all a smile which makes you feel so good.
if you're a heroine if boyfriends in the start of your career (the way Manya was), and admit to them, you're going to lose out on the male fans. that's sad, it's not the way Hollywood works.
Manya doesn't like that, and wants to openly admit to all her relationships, and she doesn't think highly of people who deny anything in their lives to get 'fans'. guess that's why she never made it. proof that beauty+talent can get amiss in Bollywood unless you play up to the male dominated society there.

She had everything going for her, god films,working with some of the best directors n author backed roles. But we in India always have the habit of spitting on the best we have. She never got the respect she deserved, the media and the people always dubbed her as unprofessional and reckless.Of course she has always been in the eye of the storm for her 'chic' lifestyle, but she also needs to be praised for her guts, she was open about all her relationships.never played games to get good roles. and I also think she made a good pair with all the leading men of her time , from the kapoors to khans she always made a good pair .
