Shilpa gets doctorate
Shilpa was confered with a Doctorate from Leeds Metropolitan University. I cant's imagine anyone having such a great career rebound as her. Good fortune and fame is just pouring on her. There was a stage when she wasn't getting any film offers and look where she is now. All thanks to Big brother.

this is purely a PR activity by the university - cheapest way to do so and very crass. I guess they would not earn so much mileage by giving a doctorate to say - Naseeruddin Shah or Arundhati Roy. But Shilpa gets the cameras clicking. Kinda cheap for a uni, innit?
i'm sorry, but even actresses like madhuri & sridevi don't deserve doctorates. what for? if you want to give someone a honorary degree for their actions, what about shabana azmi. not only is she smart and articulate, but she actually is involved in humanitarian work, not like these beauty queens who serve ambassadorial position for the year after their win.

why is she gettin a doctorate for?? if its bcuz she was racially abused on celebrity big brother, then all of us, ppl livin abroad in the states, canada, uk, for years have been racially abused over n over again...then we all deserve a doctorate too.. i mean, white ppl think they can racially abuse someone on television and make up for it by givin doctorates...thats not how it should be...treat everybody equally
i don't think what she has done deserves a doctorate. But that "funny cap" is the actual cap one wears when receiving a doctoral degree, which is different than the regular square shaped cap. It's not a fashion cap that she chose to wear.
I agree. By conferring doctorates on actors, they are taking away from people who work really hard for them. And you have to wear a cap on your head if you are receiving a doctorate. That's at least the case in the UK.
