One Direction was a band that became big and how! It was on The X Factor UK when Simon Cowell put 5 talented individuals namely Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik in a group together. They did not win the reality music competition; instead, they became the biggest boyband of this generation. With five chart-topping albums and hit singles like What Make You Beautiful and Story of My Life, One Direction became the one to look out for. While being famous has its perks, there were downsides as well.

Talking about his time in 1D with Men's Health Australia, Liam Payne shared that in spite of his closeness with the other four members, he remembers his 1D days as a lonely time, punctuated by alcohol abuse. Liam also stated that after doing hundreds and hundreds of concerts with the same 22 songs every single time, you have to go out there and perform even if you're not in a happy state of mind. Payne further revealed, "It’s almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume, I was pissed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on."

"I mean it was fun. We had an absolute blast but there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic," Liam added.
