The Lion King releases this weekend. The Disney live-action movie is a remake of the iconic 1994 animated movie. The movie has been directed by Jon Favreau and features Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Billy Eichner, John Kani, John Oliver, James Earl Jones and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter voicing the iconic characters. The movie has received mixed reviews nationally and internationally. However, the box office report card seems like The Lion King will open witness a big opening day collection in India.

Trade analyst Girish Johar told Pinkvilla that the movie is expected to open between the range of Rs 13 to 15 crore, all languages included. "I am expecting a good start at the box office," he said. He also said that while the reviews might be mixed, it all boils down to the viewers' decision of watching it or not. "It depends on how the Indian viewers connect with the film. I remember The Jungle Book had mixed reviews in the West but it did fantastic in India. The Lion King has been dubbed in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil and taken the top stars to voice the roles. In Hindi, it is Shah Rukh Khan and Aryan Khan so the traction of the movie is high," he said.

He also looks back at the recent releases, like Kabir Singh and Article 15, The Lion King comes as a breather among such serious movies. The Disney movie serves as a good opportunity for families with all age groups to come together and watch a movie. "After a long time, The Lion King comes a family outing kind of film. If The Lion King connects well with the audience, the movie will open well."

He also predicts that The Lion King could surpass Spider-Man: Far From Home's Day 1 collection in India. The Tom Holland starrer released on a Thursday and earned a box office collection of Rs 9.75 crore, according to Box Office India. Given the predictions, it seems like The Lion King could record as the third highest opening day collection for a Hollywood movie.
