I was disgusted when Laila went to Mallika: Sameera
Excerpts from the TOI interview: Were you upset and hurt that the Laila song (promised to you) was given to Mallika Sherawat? Priyadarshan felt you would have done it better. More than anything I was disgusted when the news of Laila going to Mallika was confirmed. I am flattered that Priyan sir thinks that I would have done justice to the song. I also realised that I am an actor first so it did not matter. I don't know Mallika and have never interacted with her. But a lot of people who saw the Laila song felt it stood out like a sore. So, in hindsight, maybe it all worked out for the best.

I don't think she meant that she was disgusted with Mallika per se. She was probably disgusted that her employer did not keep up his end of the bargain, if he promised her the song as stated. Maybe she felt that her career could use a boost, and doing item numbers has worked wonders for other actresses. However, criticising the song especially without seeing the final product (going by what others have said) is unprofessional and she could have handled it more graciously.
