what typecast??? She played a quiet girl who is emotionally hurt and trying to deal with the loss of her dad and fiancee, in band Baaja baraat she played a confident and hard working girl who knows what she wants. In Badmaash Company she is a plain con girl with no sense of whats right or wrong. In Ladies vs Ricky bahl she plays a carefree and honest girl who lives for her work and sides with the ladies to teach the "bad Guy" a lesson.. In matru ki bijlee ka mandola she plays a messed up girl who is trying to find her identity and in Jab tak hai jaan she plays a bubbly character who lives life to the fullest!

    ...................................................

but its the same character she produce outta anything! that is the problem!!

@DGirlie88, they were very different and very well played characters.. she has done pivotal roles so far and she has shown potential in her acting... I dunno about you but she had me in RNBJ and BBB. Its sad that her role in JTHJ was not extraordinary but even she has said in an interview that if it was not Yash Chopra she would not have accept that role. People may say anything they want, I see her having more potential than most of these young actresses these days and trust me am no die hard fan of one actress or actor. I enjoy a good film, a good performance irrespective of the actor or actress unlike others.

@ lololaughing - I totally agree!! Now Deepika perharps will break her typecast with Ram Leela and Anushka with P.K....I'm curious what Parineeti will do with her character in her upcoming movie (forgot the title). Asin and Sonakshi are lost causes for me, especially Asin, whom I loved in Ghajini, and who churned out some disappointing movies/performances these couple of years.

She's definitely not a bad actress, but sadly got typecast in those motormouth characters.. As Taani in RNBDJ though, she portrayed a quiet girl.. So I think she IS capable of experimenting with different roles contrary to popular belief.. Lets wait for Peekay!

I feel that Anushka should play a character of gray shades to break out of this typecast. She definitely is not a bad actor and has a lot of potential.

She was playing bubly, loud and drunk girl in Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola...Not again pls. That was a double dose of irritation. I hope it's serious role like Kareena's role in heroine or Kangna's in Gangster...

this new generation's actresses are all getting typecast:
anushka sharma - loudmouth, chirpy punjabi girl
deepika padukone - rich urban party girl (although she has tried different roles in the past)
sonakshi sinha - simple village belle or conservative girl-next-door
parineeti chopra - loudmouth, brash girl (it's too early to say but it's heading this way)
    asin thotumkal - simple girl-next-door

@Alessia Hahaha - well she is the belle of the village/town - maybe dandiya/garba-holic rather than partyholic. I will literally just be like wtf if she turns out to be a party girl.

And if deepika's character in ram leela turns out to be a 'gaon-ki-ladki' party girl :P

@NabbyH That's exactly what I mean. It's gonna be a festive commercial entertainer all the way in fact it's a satire with religion as its main theme. It's definitely not gonna be dark. If it's a loud and bubbly character, one can expect more criticism for Anushka but she's not gonna care if it's a big hit which it probably will be.

@bebo_pclover, I agree but I haven't seen too many "depressed" alcoholics in a commercial Bollywood movie. They are usually, just loud and comical. And not to forget, the makers of this film are maestros of comedy and "feel good" movies (with a strong social message underlying the basis of the movie). I doubt that her character will be solemn.

With all her movies she tried to play every character differently but end up doing it similarly.

  • bebo_pclover20's picture

@Nabby H I dunno. I mean I would find it weird (not to mention annoying) if her character was an alcoholic and she came across as constantly chirpy. I'd like the alcoholism to be linked with a condition like depression. It would at least be something different for Anushka. Somehow I doubt that is gonna happen.
