Prakash Raj is a popular South Indian multi-lingual actor but his roles in films such as Wanted, Singham, Dabangg 2 and Heropanti, among others, have successfully made him a popular name in Bollywood. And this year, 53-year-old Prakash Raj, who hails from the tech city, filed his nomination to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Bangalore Central constituency as an Independent. Soon after filing his nomination, Prakash Raj told the media, “National parties like BJP and Congress have failed the people. I would like to be the voice of the people.”

In the 2019 General Elections, Prakash Raj contested from the seat against BJP's outgoing MP P.C. Mohan, who too filed his nomination from Bangalore Central seat, and while the results are still awaited, we bring you Prakash Raj’s journey from being an actor to a politician. Time and again, Prakash Raj has voiced his opinions against BJP and he has been very vocal in seeking justice for journalist Gauri Lankesh, who was shot dead outside her residence.

Prakash Raj has acted in a plethora of films, mostly as an antagonist and such is his acting prowess that he has won a series of National Awards. In 1998, Raj won a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar. Thereafter, he won a National Film Award for Telugu film Antahpuram and also a National Film award for Best Actor in 2007 for Tamil film Kanchivaram. After separating from his first wife in 2009, Prakash Raj married choreographer Pony Verma in 2010.
