After a registered marriage, newly-weds Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor went in for an exchange of vows before hosting a grand reception.

"They just exchanged vows at the Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba. There were no 'saath pheras'... They did not adhere to any particular style (of wedding)," said Manish Malhotra

"When Saif and Kareena exchanged vows... she wore Sharmilaji's gharara for some time," Malhotra said.
"I worked on the antique Pataudi gharara that was restored by Ritu Kumar for Kareena's wedding... we did the final fittings and added a bit of touch of embroidery here and there," Malhotra said.

Later, Kareena changed into a Malhotra creation for the post-wedding party and Saif donned a Banarsi brocade 'achkan' by designer Raghvendra Rathore.

"Kareena wore a burgundy color embellished gharara with maroon duppatta. I gave a very old world charm to all the ghararas. The party had 80-100 people and went on till 3 am," Malhotra said.

For the reception in Delhi tomorrow, Kareena will wear a pink gharara or a pink-blue or green sari, he said.

Randhir Kapoor said, "I request all fans of Kareena and Saif to wish the couple a happy marriage... We are happy that they married without any conversion. Here two lovers have got married... they are two lovely people."

The wedding functions were held at Saif-Kareena's new residence - Satguru Sharan - in suburban Bandra on October 14 followed by a registered marriage yesterday at Saif's home and a reception at Taj Mahal Hotel last night.

============
will islam die or what if she doesnt convert? why are you so hell bent on converting her... self satisfaction that atleast someone is probably coming to that evil cult which she is clearly not??
============================
women do get converted in pataudi family..be it sharmila or amrita....if they accpet of kareena being converted...her bollywood run is over...and that's the reason they are fooling the whole country....it was reported everywhere that there will be nikkah....so when PV changed all their posted headlines from nikkah to wedding...one would wonder why??? and kareena is their favourite....and so to minimize the damage...
And i belong to the other team...not the same one you are talking about...

I respect Kareena for sticking to her beliefs and not converting for marriage.

People should convert to a religion because they believe in it not because they want to fit into society. To pretend to believe in a religion so that you may convert and be an acceptable spouse is, to me, disrespectful to true believers.

Also, Saif has always respected Kareena's beliefs and he is to be commended for not bullying her to conform.

There are some muslims who are obssesed with Kareena converting. The fact is she did not. Why would she? She didn't stop practicing her radha swamy religion when she was with Saif then why would she do that now? I guess Muslim culture is all about converting others, but the fact remains that she did not. Get over it and stop spreading false rumours. Both Saif and Bebo's dad have said that she has not converted, they had a civil marriage. But haters going to hate ;)

ceremony was not Hindu not Muslim. just exchange of vows. why are pinkvillans fighting?
even if it was nikaah and they are not admitting it.. what does it mean. it means she is ashamed of it.
so why are pinkvillans so interested in making it nikaah when concerned people are ashamed of it??

Anonymous's picture

isn't the law of marriage ingrained in religion? marriages were issued through religion long before the establishment of modern government. you can argue that "times have changed" and "why should it matter when two people are in love" but this marriage is not backed up by anything, and unfortunately is not legitimate in the eyes of God -- Muslim OR Hindu.

Religion is & should be personal....who cares if Saif is a Muslim & kareena a Hindu...big deal. Love above all & personally no one knows if Saif is even a practicing muslim so please lets not tie all yr panties in knots...live & let live. I have seen many inter faith marriages & they are all happy & luckly don't have a thousand ppl worrying over the aunthenticity of their union.
================
i guess it's them(saif n kareena) who care enough to hide it(nikkah)...they have been in live-in relationship for five years and still people loved them...people have supported them.... never had problems with saif being muslim....it's just that they are trying to fool the whole nation by trying to hide her conversion...

Anonymous's picture

NO ONE in media said it was a Nikaah except Pinkvilla...they need to get their facts right before posting them up! Kareena said from Day 1 that she wasn't going to convert so how they have had a nikaah? Use some common sense pinkvilla!
===================================
I AM SURPRISED HOW EASY IT IS TO FOOL PEOPLE!!!!....FOOL....

that's what i kept saying, her maternal grandmom is christian, babita follows christian faith and saif, babita and kareeena attended the midnight mass together...so they went in for exchange of vows in christian style.
=============================
You are right her mother is christian..you know even kareena forgot it all these years!!! thank god!!!! i guess now it should make it easy for her to convert...right????

Anonymous's picture

There was no Nikaah all those religious fundus must be crying themsleves to sleep over this. So proud of Kareena for being true to herself.

Anonymous's picture

It is not necessary for every person to be religious married i.e. nikaah, saath pheras, christian wedding etc etc. They had a registered marriage which is the official way of getting married anyway. And the exchange of vows can be done by anyone. it is more personal and romantic. Since they didnt convert, this was the only way of getting married.

And PV please update all the photo captions, since they didnt have a nikaah ceremony.

Yes, they are legally married by Gov of India under registered marriage act. The Special Acts Marriage which is a form of Registered Marriage is for persons who are not Hindu/Sikh/Buddhist/Jain and allow them to inherit and gives them all property rights.

Kareena must have wanted to have another ceremony so they exchanged vows like how Christians do. It doesn't convert anybody to Christianity. It is just more personal. Registered marriage doesn't even take 5 mins.

What ignorance. How long does it take to google Registered Marriage Act in India? Randhir said that there will be Registered Marriage and no one will convert and that's exactly what happened.

People, relax, for merely exchanging vows you dont need a religion!
You write your own vows what you meant to each other and say it out.

The tradition comes from western/christainity mould but lots of ppl do it without making it religious one.

It is quite common in the western world.

Okay this will sound ignorant but honest questions so I can make my own opinion without wrong assumptions - can anyone please explain why they cannot get married without a nikaah? They had a registered marriage - so doesn't that mean they are already married? What do they mean by vow exchange? Also, if a Hindu and Muslim are marrying, is registered marriage not enough? Or is nikaah mandatory? Which is more important registered marriage in court or nikaah and what is the difference between the two?

hindu or muslim it is necessory to register your marriage now a days...and it's upto the individuals how they want to follow the customs...In pataudi family sharmila converted and so did amrita when she married saif and now kareena....but in islam nikkah is not considered valid without conversion if marrying nonmuslim...

Anonymous's picture

Okay! Lets get it straight..I have the same question, cant two people of two different religions just get a registered marriage and get it over and done, without converting into any religion? On the other hand, I have a few Pakistani friends (I am Indian) and they have told me that a Muslim can ONLY get married to a Muslim or Christian and not a hindu/sikh unless the hindu/sikh converts to their religion. That maybe the reason why Sharmila Tagore in the first place converted. If the former is true and legal then Kareena probably has not converted but if the latter is true then she might have.

PV please post. You dont post any of my comments anymore!

take a chill pill and focus on your life more than saif and kareena's property!

Don't worry! I'm focused on my life. If you have issues with other people's comments, then don't visit PV. Since doing inquiring about others translates to not focusing on your own life. Good day!

@ Nabby H

They live together. They may have multiple properties but where they got married (registered) at Fortune Heights, is that only Saif's place or that's the residence they both occupy? I'm confused after reading this article.

i came across really interesting interview of saif's where he talks about his financial condition but pv didn't let me post it....and no he is not as rich as everybody thinks...so i would say google is the best source...
