While both the films released on Wednesdays and public holidays, the Salman Khan starrer, Bodyguard, had released on Eid day, which is generally considered to be extraordinary at the box-office. On the other hand, Ra.One released on Diwali (Laxmi Pooja day), a day which is dull at the box-office because many Hindus stay indoors to participate in the festivities including poojas. In that sense, the day after Diwali (i.e. Thursday in the case of Ra.One) proves to be the real ‘Diwali’ for the film industry because people come out in hordes to the cinemas on the second day of Diwali. The wonderful second day collections of Ra.One just go to prove this. - Komal Natha In India, RA.ONE took an electrifying start on Wednesday noon, but the business slowed down considerably on Wednesday evening onwards due to pooja and festivities. However, the business is expected to grow manifold on Thursday. Internationally, the film is all set to create new records as it collected Rs 6.5 cr on Wednesday. The breakup is as follows:- ------------------------------------------- -RA.ONE crossed Rs 25 cr mark in India only on day 2. Highest ever. Still counting -Even though it's a 2nd day total, it is certain that it will be recording the biggest day in history of the Indian Cinema.No film has collected this much in a single day. -Ra.One has created history in East Punjab on its second day. --------------->Nobody stopped bodyguard for releasing it in 1000 more screens. Also nobody stopped bodyguard for screening in 3d. In the last it is only money which counts.
Bodyguard collected 39 cr in 2 days while ra.one collected 43 crore. Both films are blockbuster but ra.one just outpassed bodyguard by 4 cr.
Also the verdict of audience is out. Ra.one received many negative reviews from critics on day 1 but still ra.one’s 2nd day collection increased by 8 crores.
Internationally, ra.one collected 7 crores on day 1 while bodyguard collected 2 crores on day 1. On 2nd day ra.one is expected to collect about 8 crores while bodyguard’s 2nd day collection internationally was only 2 crores.
Thus summing up all
Ra.one (first day – india + international) – 25 cr
Bodyguard (first day – india + international) – 23 cr
Ra.one(second day – india + international) – 32-33 cr (25 +7/8)
bodyguard (second day – india + international) – 21 cr (19 +2)

It is sad to see some Indian audience, some film industry people, and some critics pan Ra.One merely cause of rivalry/hatred/dislike/whatever towards Shah Rukh Khan, disguising it as "it has a weak plot/script".
But it is great to see that at least internationally, people are appreciating Ra.One, praising it, and seeing it as GIANT STEP ahead for Bollywood. If Bollywood is finally getting noticed internationally, it is all thanks to Shah Rukh Khan! Too sad some Indians fail to appreciate a good product from their own country, but other countries notice it and praise it. If India wants to progress in the 21st century, Indians need to change their resistance-to-change mentality and the habit of panning each other based on rivalry/dislike too!!!

Costing more than $30m, it is by far the most expensive Bollywood picture ever made. Packed with slick, high-technology visual effects of a quality never before seen in an Indian film...
Produced by Mr (Shah Rukh) Khan’s own Red Chillies Entertainment along with Eros International, a distributor of Indian movies that is listed on Aim, London’s junior stock market, the film is a classic Hindi tale of good versus evil. The name Ra.One is a play on Ravaan, the embodiment of evil from Ramayana, an ancient Sanskrit epic; while the hero’s name is pronounced like jeevan, the Hindi word for life.
Yet the film has a distinctly international gloss. Much of the action was filmed in London; its catchy anthem song, “Chammak Challo”, is sung by Senegalese-American R&B star Akon. Specialist studios from Los Angeles to Italy to Paris, plus a handful of prominent Hollywood special-effects magicians, helped bring the visual wizardry to life. Besides 3,600 screens in India, Ra.One is being released simultaneously on 1,100 screens in markets from the US to Dubai to Kenya and South Africa, plus Asian markets including South Korea and Taiwan.
“It’s an important event,” says Professor Rachel Dwyer of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. “It’s about moving on . . . The fact that the biggest star has put in his own money and is experimenting is important. It’s about flirting with Hollywood but not going all the way.”
What is indisputable, though, is that Ra.One marks a big step forward in the evolution of Hindi cinema, as it seeks to retain the loyalty of an ever more affluent, demanding and worldly domestic audience in an era of increased competition."

It is really petty to compare salman and shahrukh films like that, if hindi film industry wants to follow hollywood,they have to act professional too. Lay day kay ginti kay chand adakar aur unmain bhee laraaii, kabhi hollywood main sunna hai kay brad pitt ki movie ka kissi aur ki movie say comparison hoa ho. RAone is a great effort in a different direction and it should be appreciated for that!

Ra 1 made 14.63 (Hindi v) + 1.35 (regional version) = Total 16 Crore on day one of release. Ra1's PR agent Taran Adarsh and some SRK fans have been projecting exagerated figures to create hype for the film. Day 2 was the result of the hype.
the word of mouth is very bad...movie is not a long run..what ever u have or you will see is becasue of advance booking and hype.....
as a good critic I rate Ra.One 1.5 out of 5 and body guard 2.5 out of 5.
in no where the graphics are really improved from krish....also if u are after real good graphics go play battlefield 3 then watch ra.one.

Check Boxofficeindia.com yourself before directing others to it, that figure is just for Hindi...adding Tamil and Telgu collections it goes to 18+ Cr...adding overseas collections it goes to 25 Cr for first day too! Yes this is all from Boxofficeindia.com!
And it is now common knowledge that it has crossed 25 Cr on 2nd day creating history! Wait till overseas collections come for 2nd day, it will most likely hit 30 Cr! That will be 55 Cr in just 2 days!
And it is nonsense that it released in more cinemas than Bodyguard...so what? There was a risk of the added cinemas going empty, but everywhere is houseful!
Now come on you all accept the facts...Ra.One has beaten Bodyguard in just 2 days!
