Most of the industry derided Ashutosh Gowariker for his impulsive outburst against Priyanka Chopra. The director spoke up about the merits of PC deserving the Best Actress award at the recently concluded event over Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Jaya Bachchan even came out strongly in support of her bahu's Jodhaa Akbar director.
Eyebrows raised
Several eyebrows were raised at Ashu's mention of Jaya Bachchan on stage, to endorse and substantiate his public objection to Priyanka's trophy.
The forthright Mrs B not only stands up for Gowariker but also gives him a clean chit for mentioning her in his pro-Aishwarya speech.
Nothing against PC
Initially, reluctant to speak on the matter, Jaya makes it clear she has nothing against Priyanka's performance in Fashion, "For all I know, she must be really good in it. I haven't seen Fashion. She's undoubtedly a good actress. I don't have any objection to her winning the award. But I wonder why Aishwarya's fine performance was ignored. I think she and the Jodhaa-Akbar cinematographer Kiran Deohans richly deserved recognition for their work."
When persuaded, Jaya finally opens up. "It is being presumed that Ashutosh unnecessarily mentioned my name regarding Aishwarya's omission from the awards. The fact is, I suggested he bring up the question on stage. We were discussing why Aishwarya had not been given any award for Jodhaa-Akbar. I suggested Ashutosh bring up the matter. When he mentioned my name, he wasn't doing anything wrong."
Very strange
Warming up to the subject of Aishwarya's performance in Jodhaa-Akbar, Jaya says, "The entire principal cast and crew of Jodhaa-Akbar have been rightly nominated for the popular awards and have won also. I find it very strange that Aishwarya who lived her part and looked every inch the royal Rajasthani queen in her body language and overall performance was ignored."

It feels that IIFA is organised to give awards to Bacchans anyways. Abhishek got award for best comic actor... funny... aishwarys gets actress of decade award... more funny... what is it that two of them have achieved over the years in the industry for themselves..... u take Bacchan away from abhishek & aish's face from here, both would stand nowhere in bollywood. I think Ashu shd call press and ask OSCAR team why ignored 'Lagaan'. My film was soooo good, why this didn't get OSCAR AWARD, he can ask same thing for swadesh. Also Sahrukh did really did good job in 'Paheli', he shd go and ask why didn't I get best actor award for it. Jaya,Ashu, Amitabh , Aish everyone should should alopogize for it. They saying this to poor PC who will not dare to take 'Panga' with Ashu or bachhan family and they can get away with it. but it is too too too low for whole family.I think they started a wrong trend asking it on stage.
and i also think if Jaya ask ashu to say on stage, he couldn't say no (how can he?) afterall it was jaya BACCHAN asking a favor for pa's bahu AISH. what can he do.

to the poster two posts below: it was reported that Jaya had asked Ashu to bring it up when he was receiving the award. this wasn't to be kept in private between them. she wanted Ashu to say that Ash deserved the award when he was receiving his award. so, no, this was not a "joke that went wrong." Jaya and Ashu are I-D-I-O-T-S and so low class!!! and, these days, the Bachans are getting away with way too much. let's unite and punish them by boycotting their films and other events!

hey.. this is a LOT LOT better than the mean MIL who disses her DIL at any and every case. Jaya probably wanted to show her love for Aish in this sense.. and perhaps indicated things to Ashutosh that were meant to be private.. but Ashutosh decided to be bold about it and said it on stage. When that did not work, he quickly blamed it on Jaya-- who out of grace agreed.
Jaya is not so DUMB to go out and mock ppl for Aish not winning, ppl.
It was a joke that went out of hand of something that was meant to have been said not on stage. Every actor/actresss will say these things behind the ceremonies.. it was just that Ashutosh thought he could get away with it.. and Jaya had to keep cover for it.

no i'm not. I agree about the part aish should have get the award. She was excellent. And the role will be remember forever. As for Priyanka role, no one will remember that. She was avarage. And she sure didn't look like a model in the movie, the performance was to weak for an award in mine opinion. Her co-star Kangana should have the lead, she far more convincing. And the other reason why Priyanka shouldn't got the award is, how many people really have seen the movie. Not much. It is all media supporting it. Ít is just mine opinion
