Am a female nigeria from Africa and my apprecition of hindi movies has been shaped and moulded by Yashji, I had read some where that he had dengue fever and then he got better and now suddenly he is no more. am left speechless and sad. He was a legend and there will never be any like him, the great Yash Chopra was the consumate show man, his stars were huge, his sets and locations bigger and the stories he conveyed larger than life, he sold dreams, fantasy, fun and above all the indian spirit of absolute joy.

I am loss for word at the moment to continue to write, because there is no word or space enough to describe this one in a billion. A lot of people know the stars, the music directors, the directors, the script writers and you name the whole "filmi" team to create a movie but above all not everyone knows or remembers the genius who takes the ultimate risk to bring all these together and more backing it with crores and crores of rupees. Not only was he a producer but he also wrote and directed, thus he was above all the soul of his movies.

As a child I was often told stories by my grandma that when the tallest tree in my part of the world suddenly falls the sound of its crash can be heard mile and miles away and that the effect was likend to that of an earth tremor. But that it usually signifies the death of a colossus, a giant among men.

Indeed an Iroko tree has fallen.

PV please post this.

now only dark days are ahead. these kind of directors, these type of films, are all dying out and with them a beautiful era of hindi cinema. now all we are left with is 100-crore crap and some new-age nonsense. but the true language of hindi cinema, as spoken by poets such as yashji, the magic and melodies, the sheer poetry and romance, the pure cinematic sense, are all sadly gone forever......

who would have thought when yashji said JTHJ is his last film that it would turn out to be so prophetic? may his soul rest in eternal peace. and may aditya continue his father's legacy and finish off his last film, and give it a fitting release in his memory. RIP YC, you were one of the last of the greats and have taken away a whole era & genre with you.

I was SO shocked. Mostly because I heard that he was feeling better and that made ME feel better. Then all of a sudden... wow! Completely left me heartbroken. I will miss him terribly even though I, obviously, didn't know him personally.

@Mila In NY so true, every word you said. Its indeed sad to see all these wonderful and legendary Bollywood stalwarts die sudden deaths like this.First God took away legendary actors like Shammi Kapoor,Dev Anand & Rajesh Khanna. Then he took away a wonderful singer like Jagjit Singh & now he has taken away a timeless director/producer like Yash Chopra. Probably he's planning some magnificent and grand movie production up there♥ So terribly heartbreaking to see the lifeline of Bollywood being sucked away in this manner. Doesn't go too far to say that looking at this I would say we're really just two months away from the end of the world:-(:-(:-(:-( Surprising to see a single mosquito could kill a man:-(

Voiceswriter you should really check Lamhe. I've watched it 2 weeks ago and it was amazing film. From the cast, the performance and the music. This is Yash Ji best film. Rip Yash Ji we gonna miss you and your brand of cinema.

Gosh, as a Hindi movie aficionado, its been a terrible year for me. First I had to say goodbye to my absolute favorite Dev Anad, then Shammi Kapoor and now Yash Chopra!! In case of Shammi Kapoor, I was aware he was ill for a long time. Dev Saab's and Yashji's passing caught me off guard, completely.

I wouldn't call myself a fan but I loved Silsila, and it seems like he was really loved and respected by his peers, so that's a wonderful legacy to leave behind. RIP, Mr. Chopra.

Tragic news! So close to the release of JTHJ, and one song unfinished... oh gosh that's so sad! RIP Yash Chopra, Bollywood legend, you have touched us all with your films and will never be forgotten. :(

RIP, Yashji! I still remember being 7 and watching Dil Toh Pagal Hai on the big screen. Thank you for making me fall in love with Hindi cinema! I don't think I'd be such a dedicated movie patron if my first big screen experience hadn't been that magical. THANK YOU for giving us some of the best musicals, heart-warming romances and memorable characters. The love you depicted in your movies is the kind of love i'd like to believe in-- one that transcends age, boundaries, religion and society. You're cinema will live in our hearts for a long, long time. Thanks you.

So sad to hear about Yash Chopra :'( What a legend!! And he did tell Shahrukh in an interview that he's had enough of making movies, but I know for sure that he didn't think that he would leave this world. Why is God so cruel somtimes, I mean he could've let Yashji atleast see the response for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, it's all so sad :'(

Voiceswriter's picture

I am on the floor crying and typing. I saw the news on CNN and the first place I came was PV because I knew if it was true I would get the confirmation here. OMG!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous's picture

Wow, the the title of Mr. Chopra's last directorial is quiet ironic to the current situation, JAB TAK HAI JAAN..... Yash Chopra, Rest in Peace.
