Actor-activist Aamir Khan Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and union minister Mukul Wasnik here and raised the issue of the plight of manual scavengers in the country.

Aamir called on the prime minister at his official residence at 7, Race Course Road, and sought that the practice be done away with.

Later, in a joint press conference with Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Wasnik, Amir said that both Singh and Wasnik were aware of the issue and would step up efforts to address it as soon as possible. He met Wasnik at his office in Shastri Bhawan.

"We believe that every person should have the right to live a life of dignity. The fact that even today, a section of our society works as manual scavengers, it is unfortunate for not only the society but for entire nation," Wasnik said.

Aamir had highlighted the issue in a recent episode of his popular television programme "Satyameva Jayate".

Wow aamir has bulked up quite a bit. He's doing a good job. I support him.

what india really needs is a revolution to address all these silly issues

People commenting on his clothes need to come out of their shallow minds.

Does Anna Hazare wear a tuxedo in a meeting with PM ? huh

He is there for a cause and it's a formal meeting at PM's residence.

Keep up the good work, Aamir. If everyone was as serious about their work as him, India would have been a superpower by now.

My God, Aamir is TOO casually dressed for a meeting with the prime minister. The full sleeved Tee is ok, but the jeans, ripped at knees...what the f.

On Sunday afternoon, Aamir appeared live on Google plus hangout, chatting live--in a tee and a pair of denim half pants (or bermudas). Here is the link --very good 40 minutes, especially between 15-25 minutes and the last 5 minutes.

Somebody at pinkvilla --please put up this video separately. It's really good -- 5 winners of some competition, chat live with aamir --who is at his casual best, but also very effective and vocal , putting his thoughts across well. It's a very homey feel with guys coming and opening window, providing tea, Aamir in shorts, pink knees and legs showing ! The first girl and Aamir had a witty interaction, with aamir teasing her about her school (Petit Girls School Bandra, near Aamir's home, where Aamir studied in primary section). Good fun, but also informative. A must watch.

As for the pics above -- wonder who is the girl next to him. May be some govt staffer or his own...

why do I find no fights on amir topics here although when I enter on shahrukhkhan or salman topics or videos on youtube,I find many fights between their fans,I do not know why but sometimes I feel that amir is the one who made it worse between shahrukhkhan and salman, made their fans burn with oneanother to get the eyes away from him and does not interfere in battles to appear as an angel.
