@Nabby - It is not a big deal in india either now. Of course, I wouldnt say every 3'rd 4th car in an audi or bmw, but the ones who can afford cars like that do. Especially in Bombay/Delhi, its really common to see cars like these now. My dad got a porsche cayenne waaay back in like 2007. My bhaiya owns a range rover evoque. And we live in Bombay.
Audi may not be big deal in Europe and America, But it is a big deal in India. And mind you Audi s are better cars than Mercedes and BMW technically. they have better engines.
Now stop criticizing what car Salman gifted Katrina. He gave her an Audi because thats her fav brand in cars. Now get over and move on.

@Nabby, its much easier to own luxury cars in America/Canada since you have lots of financing options. In India, the import duty on cars and sales tax almost doubles the price of the car. Therefore its not as "luxurious" or a status symbol to drive an Audi in America/Canada/Europe as it is in India or other developing nations. Anything in excess becomes common and does not remain "luxury". Thats why we dont turn around and look twice at a car in the western world.But in a country where majority of the population still does not own their own vehicle, its definitely a luxury.

Audis are nice cars but they aren't out of the world. In Toronto, every 3rd or 4th car is an audi, bmw, lexus, mustang, etc. They are not THAT big of a deal. Even I bought myself an A5 with my parents' help. May be they are a big deal in India. Do you have to pay for the car in one go in India or you can do financing/intallments?
