the film ran in the south because southern india is not as "ram bhakt" as northern india. they look at ravan in a different perspective- they admire him for being a scholar. How could you possibly think that male chauvinistic northern indian ppl would have liked the concept of sita defending and developing a liking for ravan and questioning ram? the film had to flop in north.

Really? But Prithviraj has been in many flops down south. And Vikram? He was there in the Hindi version too... so he can't be the reason!
If the film ran in the South it was because it was more adaptable in the South. This story was just not meant for the northern audience. It caters better to the South because they can relate to the characters.
Rai, Vikram did a splendid job but Mani Ratnam is Mani Ratnam.
Incidentally, Raavanan was among the Top 3 Tamil grossers of the year, which is not a big surprise! :-)
Btw, she looks very beautiful here!

Tamil version worked because of Vikram and Prithviraj.
I don't think it is the director's fault. He made two versions of the film, Raavan and Raavanan. Raavan didn't work at the BO and Raavanan worked wonders at the BO, creating records! It is just the audience to blame. When they can approve trash like Tees Maar Khan and Housefull, then how can they like good cinema? Udaan and Dhobi Ghat are good movies but they didn't even collect 1/20th of what some nonsensical blockbusters did.
It's a clear cut statement that people, more importantly in the north are only attracted to masala/commercial movies. They will watch movies because it will guarentee them three hours of hearts laughs and entertainment. An intense piece of cinema will not make a difference to their lives. Hence, Raavan, though better than 90% of what Bollywood churns out every year, had to fail just because it didn't target at entertaining the public. It was more of an art film. At the same time, I'd say the South Indian audience has a much better taste in cinema and they appreciate good cinema. Most of the times.

He should not have chosen people who cannot act.
I don't think she's trying to hide her glass. The blame for failure of the movie rests more on the director in this case..he could've done a better job...didn't pay a lot of attention to the story but more to cinematography which was amazing but couldn't save the movie.

-> You want to find Aishwarya beautiful and think she's classy. Great. that's why she's #1 top star in India-- most people agree with you.
Now you want to look down on dark folks and think it's wrong or something-- you are very off-base. that's how women should be? fair? no -- women should be as they want to be-- and most women are happy with the color given to them. first of all, who said fair or dark were natural or un-natural? as far as ppl calling her plastic, let them.. why does it bother u if you don't agree with it? and frankly, ppl don't call her plastic over her color or non-color-- it's more her stiffness and makeup, etc.. she ranks tops on all the polls in India time and time again, so let it go.. no need to hit out at 'dark people'.

Both are hyprocrites...they were both lovey dovey w Mani then after the movie flopped, they started to diss the director not blaming themselves for shitty overacting roles.

people can't just leave aishwarya in peace!! n then they complain why she's guarded all the time!! well it's because each n every thing she does is blown out of proportion.. like here for example, she's wearing a saree for God's sake, she has to take care of her pallu not the glass!! we can see abhi's glass because he's on the opposite side, there's no way we'll be able to see aishwarya's glass clearly.. if she wanted to hide the fact that she drinks (occasionally) she wouldn't have posed with a glass in her hand.. its as simple as that.. because she's clearly aware that a pic is being taken..

She is looking divine..Haters say whtever they can but she is the only actresses who is going strong irrespective of any tom dick n harry of Bollywood trying to pull her down. People who say she is plastic should check their eyes. In India I have seen how 'feminine' women are. Standing with ur feet wide open, irrespective of wearing good dress looking like a begger n yes having dark skin is considered 'natural'. You cant punish someone just coz tht person is fair and classy. May be u r not used to it but thts how women should be.
she looks really old, old enough to look like her hubby mother..i like her tho and ab looks average!

have you seen the pics where she is so lovey dovey with her husband? and have you seen the comments that people make .. ie, they say why is she always clinging to him
seriously people, this girl can't live in peace, she's damned if she does, and damned if she doesnt.

that's a dumb comment about the wine... these people are from bollywood, more westernized than westerns themselves. they don't represent mainstream india. and thus, no reason for them to hide wine. she is just posing, i kinda do the same thing if i'm holding a glass of wine, or coke, because it just ruins the photo
Tue, 2011-02-15 08:12 — Anonymous
Firstly why have a photo taken holding a glass in the first place? Secondly,if your going to hold a drink then why cover it up?? Weird.

Awesome! I loved Raavan... dunno why Bollywood people didn't approve of it but make films like Housefull and Tees maar khan hit... No wonder the south Indians have a better taste as Raavan was a big hit in the south... but too bad only aish was in it and abhi was not
Post new comment
