According to TOI , Mani Ratnam is planning a film adaptation of the renowned Daphne Du Maurier's famous 1938 novel Rebecca with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!

Ratnam and Ash have already worked together in a few noted films such as Iruvar (1997), Guru (2007) and Raavan (2010) so they share a very good equation both professionally and personally.

According to the source, the filmmaker is currently busy putting the script together. "Rebecca, the novel is about a
newly married woman who is constantly compared to the first wife of her husband by the housekeeper. While she feels belittled by the shadow of the deceased lady of the house, she later realises that her husband was never in love earlier. Ratnam is currently adapting the entire novel into a more contemporary Indian setup," added the source. There are already two Hindi film adaptations of the novel 'Rebecca' - Kohra (1964) starring Waheeda Rehman and Biswajeet and the more recent Anamika (2008) starring Minissha Lamba, Dino Morea and Koena Mitra.

It goes without saying the Ash will be portraying the role of the lead protagonist in the novel, Mrs de Winter. If everything goes to plan, the film should go on floors by late next year and is expected to hit the theatres in 2014.

stop there ...the success of the tamil version is depending on only the tamil actor's success aishwarya is nothing there otherwise hindi verison wouldnt be such terrible with bachchans but in tamil version they picked very popular tamil actor and they tried to suck his success by overshadowing him but see what happened in the end ...tamil guy saved the ravaanaan ... i think aishwarya s acting floopped so terrible in that movie because its far from being credible in real life no one climbs steep cliffs with thick eyeliners with thick lipliners and light foundations even after getting wet in the lake her makeup still so visible this fact takes the attention from the reality of script and causes the flop of heroine's acting so only bleached face and only made up face cannot be successful all the time and aishwarya rai bachchan is the best example of this situation she should have obeyed mani ratnam instructions on wearing no makeup but she aways refused!!! yeah she never risks her bleach routine

Anonymous's picture

of course she is not doing!! no director wants to risk his dear script with flop queen talentless aishwarya ...she has given enough flops for mani ratnam and each time bachchans fail they give the credit to the director irrespective of their talentless acting...so yes good aish will always be just model and ambassador of cosmetics few arranged charity events wearing embellished clothes and sporting white enough face for indian audience yeah this is what a beauty pageant winner can do which doesnt require any talent /acting

Good for her!

Talent + hardwork + beauty = Aishwarya. No wonder Mani casts her again and again in his movies.

Anonymous's picture

Ash ruins everything/everyone she comes in contact with.. ratnam's career was over with ravan..

-------------

Who the hell are you to allude that Manirathnam's career was over after Ravan? His Ravanan (the Tamil version) was critically acclaimed. Mention his name and people will sit up, eagerly waiting for his next movie. His next movie is Kadhal and people are waiting, eagerly so, for the movie.

You must be a bitter Bebo fan or just an idiot

I'm also curious to know who gets to play the second Mrs. de Winter! Someone younger & someone who can really emote... 'cos this role is going to be the tougher one.

novels...

Rebecca is one of my favourite novel, an absolutele racy thriller and great movie material. ... And though I'm not-so-fond of Aishwarya's acting I guess she'd fit the bill perfectly! I love Mani Ratnam.

Kitty's picture

Hmmm that would be interesting, hope it's true! :)

THE Aishwarya Rai and the Genius Ratnam back again that too in a woman centric!Wow!They have always rocked together, she gave outstanding performances and he made great films. And the kind of versatile actress that Ash is,I would love see her excelling in a wide variety of roles..Well,I don't know much about the novel but Mani and Ash will just rock it for sure,if its happening!.But,Ash really needs to lose all the extra weight..Work out regularly and get back to shape!!And and before everything else, lets wait for confirmations. There have been many rumors..so can't believe it without confirmations!
