I think after last year fiasco ( of stopping sonam from attending Cannes), the management decided to move her down the line to closing ceremony ( least important).
And did not provide her with clothes... that is why she had to buy them herself.

as an indian woman i m proud of her....she dint torture herself nor did she hide ..kudos for that. The weight you gain thru pregnancy and after care is hard to shed cos you care for the baby too...
her style is like a indian grand ma and her neck and puffiness near eyes overall she looks in 40's very old and fat not good at all
She looks graceful. The color of the saree suits her. Great co-ordination overall. Ofcourse, she looked different before pregnancy. But women have to change with age and dress gracefully. At 39 she cannot look like sweet sixteen. Why can't people (WOMEN) understand this? Women are making comments about her hair, her neck, the lines on her neck.....pathetic attitude. I am no fan of aishwarya and I never thought she was a great actor like vidya balan....but people also have problem with the way Vidya dresses. Why are women so jealous of other women? They think they can do much better than these stars....but these stars have earned it. It is not easy to be up at 3 am with full on make up.
Give her a break. I am sure she doesn't even care about what people are saying.

What was she thinking. It looks like Ash took fashion tips from Jaya rather than a proffessional stylist. Should have stuck to an Elie Saab design or another designer who would at least dress her appropriatley, according to her body type and not conceal the flab but embrace it.

Has this poor woman not learnt from her first foray on the Canned red carpet. She clearly does not look good in indian attire, no matter how well intended. It looks like a tent has enshrouded her. She should have just stayed at home. But if she had she would have lost her one opportunity to appear on the international circuit that would indicate to the world she is still around.
Looking back at the past few years red carpet appreances, this outfit takes her right back to where she started at Cannes, a fashion misfit. Even Sonam Kapoor is more of a style icon than Ashwariya. Times for Ash to lay low, regroup and come back slimmer and more fashion in tuned.
