Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in no rush to return
By DNA Ever since news of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s pregnancy was announced, the she has been on a self-imposed hiatus. Now, enjoying motherhood to the hilt, the actress’s in no rush to get back to films anytime soon. But that hasn’t stopped hopeful filmmakers from offering her scripts. Confirming this, a source says, “Filmmakers are still sending her their scripts knowing very well that Aishwarya’s too busy being a mum to read them at the moment. But they are still hoping that their scripts will be considered whenever the actor is ready to sign films and continue to drop by scripts at her Juhu residence.” Apparently, several production houses have been informed that she’s not looking at films yet, but that hasn’t deterred them from sending scripts across and there are always films they want her to consider at least once, informs an insider. Of these several filmmakers are offering her to pair up with hubby Abhishek Bachchan too, hoping that working with him again may just do the trick. But as of now, apparently nothing has caught Ash’s fancy who’s even keeping away from the social circuit, except for close family functions. “Attending the recent bash hosted by Parmeshwar Godrej for Oprah Winfrey was a rare exception though. That’s because Oprah is a dear friend and she had personally invited her over to India when she was the guest on her show twice,” says a source. “So, Oprah kept her promise by dropping by the Bachchan residence on her visit here and Ash was more than happy to host her.” But these commitments apart, according to insiders, the actor is enjoying being a mum too much to consider film offers yet. “Aishwarya’s a completely hands-on-mum and is totally enjoying this phase of her life and doesn’t want to be distracted by work at all. Her return will depend on whenever she feels comfortable, but we don’t think anything immediately is on the cards yet,” says another insider. How Aishwarya made Rs.100 crore last year - Motherhood may be keeping Aishwarya Rai off the silver screen, but when it comes to brand endorsements Aish is no slouch. In fact she pulled in a billion rupees last year from advertising work alone! Masala Magazine has done a careful study of the actress's non-film work and the results are crystal clear: Aishwarya's name alone is still incredibly valuable, both in India and abroad. International brands see her as the face of India and she's massively popular overseas, where foreign brands are eager to sign her as the face of their products. In fact the fewer Indian brands she endorses the more foreign work she picks up, to the tune of nearly $19 million per year. One of her biggest clients is the high-end watch brand Longines. Of Aishwarya the brand says, "People across the world love Bollywood films and they go housefull. Wherever we have travelled (with Aishwarya) the response has been overwhelming. She is a global face and we would like to continue this association as long as possible." It sounds like Aishwarya Rai needn't worry in the least about continuing to stay home with Beti B--thanks to her stellar reputation she'll never want for advertising work!

she was the last of the actresses who could act, dance and look great. So I really await her comeback.

Yes, Chokher Bali was not just critically acclaimed, but was a box office hit too.
'Chokher Bali' is a hit
By Taran Adarsh, October 11, 2003
Rituparno Ghosh's CHOKHER BALI has done superb business in Kolkata. Contrary to the false propaganda spread by vested interests, the Aishwarya Rai starrer has stormed the box-office by collecting a whooping Rs. 35,44,469 from 15 cinema halls, despite tough opposition from BAGHBAN, KHEL and another Bengali film, GURU. Based on Rabindranath Tagore's novel of the same name, CHOKHER BALI is set in the pre-independence era, in the early 20th century Bengal. It is a psychological study of relationships between the sexes in a well-to-do family, of shifting eternal triangles, complex motivations, subtle play of emotions. The story revolves around four protagonists -- Mahendra [Prosenjit], his friend Behari [Toto Roychowdhury], Mahendra's wife Ashalata [Raima Sen] and Ashalata's widowed friend Binodini [Aishwarya Rai]. This writer was amongst the first to gauge the potential of the film, when he witnessed portions of the film a few months ago. At that point of time, we had predicted, Portions of her forthcoming film, the much-discussed CHOKHER BALI [her first Bengali film], directed by Rituparno Ghosh, were screened exclusively for this writer and the feeling one is left with at the conclusion of the screening is of utmost contentment. Ash will win accolades not only at the national level, but international acclaim will follow as well. The look of the film, the setting, the ambience, the performances... every aspect of the film keeps you mesmerised. Undoubtedly, film-making is a director's medium and Rituparno's contribution looms large in every frame, every sequence.

I'm not an Aish fan but she has a hook nose. She has always had one. I still wonder why she didn't have it corrected.
She is close to 40 yrs old. Time to enjoy the fruits of her labor -- pun intended -- both her baby and also her work.
I am sure it is nice for her to have a normal life away from the arc lights and the constant judgement and speculation.

She didn't have any plastic surgeries done? Look up her nose at the miss world pageant and look at her nose today. Her nose is leaner and smaller now. She's definitely got a nose job done. Viewers from other countries who watch the 1994 miss world pageant video but aren't aware of who she is today are saying stuff on you tube like " miss India has a hooked nose", "India looks scary", especially her nose," Miss India's nose is so funny," etc.etc. Her eye lids are smaller today than at the time she was doing HDDS. Looks like she's gotten cheek implants too. She's admitted to have dental veneers done during the pageant. Her childhood pics are brown not fair.Rai's poor fans are certainly in denial. But can't blame them she's very good at projecting her mystique persona. But try to see the truth using your own two eyes. It will help you in life.

great reply, you articulated your thoughts very well
stardom is just one small piece in her world. she has it all.. and she's enjoying it at the top. cheers.
hey hey hey...
the pressure up there is high.
with even some of her most ardent fans going 'lose some weight lady', etc. etc.. . it must be a big relief for her to just take this moment to be herself. stardom is tough work, and very few people realize how much sheer hard work she's put into being India's superstar.
fans, haters.. leave her alone. she's at the top working non-stop since her Miss World/modeling days, and she's allowed to enjoy some of her success. She'll be back, she's a legend!
$19 million per year is too much........she is getting money but not that much
Ash is wonderful actress and she is not only having beautiful face but also having a beutiful mind set......
she is a successful actress........she is a living legend......ways to go ash...good luck.....
PV please post. Thank you!

Devdas, HDDCS, Dhoom 2, Jodha Akbar, and Robot are her only hits? And you say the "rest of her movies have been panned by critics and flopped"? That itself tells how cynical you're because you don't even are acknowledging her other succesful movies like Taal, Guru, Bride and Prejudice, Kanudkondain, Jeans, Raavanan, Pink Panther 2 (was panned critically but was a success commercially... made $82 million on the budget of $35million), Khakee, Raincoat, Chokher Bali, Provoked, Sarkar Raj, Josh, Mohabbatein, etc? That itself sums up that you're simply dissing her because you know she is good at what she does. Chokher Bali was a hit, I can give you proof if you ask. And Provoked did extremely well in UK and it was a UK film. It made decent profits. So it wasn't exactly a blockbuster, but wasn't a failure either. And whatever, who cares about hits when movies like Bodyguard, Ready, Golmaal, Ra.One, Tees Maar Khan etc are becoming hits and blockbusters. Iruvar won national awards though it wasn't a big BO success. Neither was Guzaarish, though it was critically acclaimed. There is a world outside box office. BO is not the be all and end all of everything. And if a film fails, it is not correct to throw the blame on the actress. The director, music director, choreographers, writers, etc. A movie is a TEAM EFFORT. So if a film fails, it could be due to one of them, not just the actress. For example, Aishwarya got all +ve reviews for Guzaarish. The film failed (in India, though rocked overseas). So how is it her fault? Her job was to act well which she did. The rest is fate. And let me correct you, she isn't the Queen of flops. COunt her successful movies and they're more than Kareena or Priyanka or Deepika or any other contemporary actress except Katrina (whom I don't consider an actress btw, she is just a showpiece). What is great for Aishwarya is that she has done meaty roles and for 90% of the time did roles where she had something to do and wasn't just eyecandy like Kareena in Ra.One, BG or Katrina in any of her movies. It's funny how you attribute the success of Robot to just Rajnikanth knowing very well that this is a male dominated industry. And especially when other actresses are doing the same, that is ok right?
And how you say her chances of getting good roles in Hollywood are slim to none! HAH! Aishwarya has always done meaty roles in Hollywood, be it Provoked, BnP, Mistress of Spices, Last Legion or PP2 where she was the main villain. Rush Hour 3, Hitch and Hancock were offered to her, YES! And they're not really challenging roles, which is EXACTLY why she didn't do them. She was supposed to do a movie with Meryl Streep entitled CHAOS (look that up on Google, I ain't making this up). She was offered movies like Mr and Mrs Smith and I am Legend, where she had good roles but somehow they didn't take off. That's because Aishwarya never could leave INDIA. On Letterman she was asked if she would be moving to LA to consider a serious Hollywood career and she said INDIA will always be her home. Look at Sherawat who is based in LA for 5 years. Now that is what Aishwarya needed to have done to consider a career there. But look what is happening to Sherawat there. Any offers? Nope. Look at Freida. She is doing blink and miss roles in movies there. And then she treats India as if it is an alien country. I'm so happy Aishwarya hasn't done any of that. She doesn't shy away from wearing sarees at international redcarpet events or international TV shows, she isn't afraid to defend her country when Americans made fun of her living with her parents. She doesn't shun India. She doesn't ignore Indian movies. She has always maintained a balance, which is what I liked.
But you're just stating distorted facts here. Where did she say she turned down Mr and Mrs Smith due to kissing scenes or when did she ever say she will never do a kissing scene or lovemaking scenes? She was asked about it and her answer (in her exact words) - "I will cross the bridge when I reach it." But one thing she was clear about that she would never explore nudity on celluloid, which she stuck to. How is exposing her cleavage contradicting anything? There is a certain degree to which you can show. But that doesn't mean you'll show everything. One needs to draw a line. And GET REAL PLEASE, this is a glamour industry. You think she should be dressed like a behenji? About prancing half naked in her movies. LOL. Pls show me those movies. The only movie she exposed a little was in DHOOM 2 and that too was classy and tastefully done. She didn't even wear a bikini for GOD's sake!
And I'm tired of haters accusing her of skin bleaching. She is naturally fair. Look up her childhood pics. Yes she is not white but she is surely fair/light brown. Regarding plastic surgeries, sigh, she is one of the very few actresses who still has the same features as she did when she was 18. I don't know if she got something done before that, but I wouldn't even care. Because it is so obvious she doesn't indulge in plastic surgeries. See wrinkles on her neck? My aunt works at a cosmetic clinic, she told me Aishwarya can get a neck lift (a 45 minutes procedure) which would ensure a flawless neck for 4 months. And it doesn't even cost a pie. Why is Aishwarya not considering it? Because she doesn't even give a damn about her looks. But it is so obvious you are so disturbed by her that you don't give credit to her for her beauty, talent or success. I think the next time you make a negative comment on her, you shouldn't make it so obvious that you're a hater. Otherwise people don't take you seriously.
What would she come back to? Out of her entire filmography of 40+ films from 1997-present, she's only had a handful of hits - Devdas, HDDS, Dhoom 2, Jodha Akbar, and Robot (really attributed to Rajnikanth, not her). The rest of her movies have been panned by critics and flopped. There have been few critically acclaimed i.e. Choker Bali, Provoked but have not done well commercially. Also, all her attempts to go to Hollywood have failed - Mistress of Spices, Pink Panther 2, and The Last Legion did terribly, both commercially and critically. She is the queen of flops - and that's statistically speaking!
Her chances of getting good roles in Hollywood are slim to none. The ones she has been offered or considered for i.e. Rush Hour 3, Hitch, Hancock don't exactly have emotional depth or are character driven. And in terms of talent, she could never compete with actresses who truly transform themselves for a role i.e. Charlize Theron in Monster, Rooney Mara in Dragon Tattoo, Kate Winslet in The Reader etc. Not to mention her hypocrisy. She mentioned that she turned down Mr. & Mrs. Smith due to the love scenes and won't do kissing scenes - yet she's done both in Bollywood - Dhoom 2, Kyon Ho Gya, Shabd, etc. She claims to be conservative but has pranced around half-naked in her movies and shown off cleavage in Cannes and India.
Her beauty is attributed to skin bleaching and plastic surgeries, and the latter now look awful as showcased by her pregnancy i.e. cheek implants and eyebrow lift. She's just proof that being artifically pretty without talent will take you far. Her success is a relfection of Indian society's standards of beauty, not actual talent. Yes, she's hard working, but really who isn't?
@ PV - please post!
THANK GOD 4 MAKING ME LOVE AISH
Her time as a top actress is certainly over. Time's not waiting till she comes back ! By the time she comes back she'll have to resort to doing motherly roles.Bye Bye Ash!

All these comments from ONE single worked up person. But just countering those comments.
Ash never had cat fights like others. Did you ever see her pass a bad comment about another actor or actress? NEVER! She has always been dignified and classy. Yes, she was in controversies but that wasn't her fault if Salman creates a ruckus on her sets or abuses her. Not her fault if she gets thrown out of films because of someone else's fault. And you must be living in denial if you think she has no talent. She is surely one of the most talented actresses India has produced. She has proved her mettle as an actress in so many films ranging from HDDCS to Devdas to Raincoat to Provoked to Kandukondain to Chokher Bali to Guzaarish to Jodhaa Akbar. She is a versatile actress and not to mention... was awarded the BEST ACTRESS OF THE DECADE THRICE. The biggest of critics have all appreciated her. She has the love of the audience who still kept her popular even after four years of marriage. Surely means something. Moreover, she is one of the best dancers our industry has produced. Favourite dancer of many! She is an ideal rolemodel.
And if you think Sujata or schmuck or oxygen or other Ash fans are torturing you with the posts, don't visit them. Aishwarya is one of the biggest stars on Pinkvilla and all her posts attract attention. Her posts always get the most clicks and the most comments. Surely means people want to read about her. So I dont see why Ash fans should stop posting about their idol. More like you should stop visiting posts of someone you do not like for ridiculous reasons.
AsHrithik is a jodi. Hrithik will seduce Ash out of home duties the moment he gets a good script.
Gosh what a stunning photo... but about the article, Aishwarya should take all the time she wants to! This time with the baby can only come once in a lifetime but films will always be there. She must be really enjoying... good for her! :)
People being MEAN to Sujata for sharing Aishwarya's posts need to look in the mirror first... Sujata is a fan like many and she is doing what a fan is supposed to do but what about you haters??? Why do you waste your "precious time" not only coming to each of Aishwarya's post but also comment on it and even go on other unrelated posts to ASH and make aishwarya the topic of discussion there... you guys need to have a clear look at yourselves... full of hate LOSERS
thank god, stay at home please..
even if you dont come back PV will be filled with your articles, even photshopped and edited than ever before..the same articles posted again and again for no apparent reason..sujatha, schmuck, oxygen and the gang will not stop torturing us with non-sense articles about you for the next how many years you wish not to come back..but atleast it would save us the torture of your over acting on screen and help producers not lose some money after all how many times can these so called fans watch your movies to make them hits!!!
She needs time to get all her cosmetic corrections done..so she has given herself time so that she can come to the public when she is fit to be seen ....Did you see her photos with Oprah Winfrey...due to her puffed up face because of post pregnancy water retention all her cheek fillers looked out of place.....If you really had that much money and love your kid so much...why go back to work? It is all part of the " goody" image she tries to protray....she just cant let go of the glamour lifestyle even how much money one has....
I hope she comes back in 2013 with fresh forces <3
well yeah she will always get the highest on endorsements this is the best thing she has ever done...just model and stand there ...no talent required and as her fame is based on controversies ,cat fights and media games as well as prestigious pr arrangements she will always get offers as a bachchan bahu from now on ...but see. how long will she be able to maintain loreal and longines...it has become such an ambition for her because loreal the only thing which opens the doors of cannes for her and which keeps her in headlines for weeks...thats why she still endorses such a cheap brand which is heavily loaded with chemicals but she keeps advertising it with her bleached face anyway ...she is just lucky as she lives in india where things are so shallow and easy unlike hollywood see even after two decades she is still nothing abroad other than pretty ambassador, sweet regular indian guest of loreal everything there arranged by loreal team not her success no one is fool ...so know your limits the world doesnt consist of only india or say asia...she has to have a talent ,prove herself in acting and she should stop bleaching her brown face which shadows her beauty because worlds people hate fake personalities ...who comes on screen with the most beautiful tag ,who claims to be secure, confident with compleixon but who bleaches her brown face???!!! conflicting
Well, she has had an amazing career and an outstanding body of work. She has done versatile work, earned awards, acclaim, respect and trust. She has worked her ass off for two decades. So I think she deserves some time off for her personal reasons. Becoming a mother is the best experience for any woman, I am sure. So your priorities change when you become a mother. There is an added responsibility. So there is no surprise that she wants to set aside her career for a while and focus on the baby at least until she turns 6 months old.
What is amazing though, is that she earned 100 crore from endorsements alone last year. Besides, she is rumoured to have signed another big, international jewellery brand. So she is financially sound as well. And the fact that she is still getting good amount of movie offers is encouraging. That's a positive sign that she wouldn't end up like other actress-mothers.
Thank god! we are spared.
sweet aish. you are really blessed
Oxygen and Sujatha are the same person...
