I think it is just amazing for Aishwarya to be still up there despite having no releases in the year, plus she has rarely been in public eye. Just goes to prove how popular she is. And this when she is a blink away from 40, after years of marriage and after being a mother. Go go girl! Cannot wait for her to be back in the movies.

Ormax Media, a leading research and consulting firm for the entertainment business released key findings of “Front Page,” their annual report on movies and television. One of the key features of the report is the list of the top 10 male and female stars in Bollywood. Using a star tracking methodology, data was collected through the year from a sample of more than 30,000 moviegoers. The star rankings threw up a few surprises. Among the heroes, Salman Khan was, of course, the top choice for 2011. This is hardly unexpected since he single-handedly propelled two mediocre films – “Ready” and “Bodyguard” – to blockbuster status. But the surprise was how far ahead he is of the competition. He has a 47 percent share, which almost equals that of Shah Rukh Khan (27 percent) and Aamir Khan (22 percent) combined.

Noticeably, Imran Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and even Saif Ali Khan did not make it to the top 10 list – In fact, Saif was ranked at 21 after Emraan Hashmi and Arjun Rampal. Shailesh Kapoor of Ormax Media points out that there is only one star – Ranbir Kapoor – below the age of 30 in the top 10. He said: “It is interesting that while the audience of Hindi films in India have progressively got younger, the stars who continue to rule are not as young. In fact, the average age of the top 10 stars is 43 years!” Kapoor also mentions that while Akshay Kumar has been virtually written off by the Indian press, he is ranked fifth in the top 10, which suggests that audiences are still willing to watch him. Among the women, Katrina Kaif routed the competition, with an astounding 51 percent of respondents picking her as their number one choice. No. 2 was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, with a share of 24 percent.
