There are so many actors in our industry, so many are overated, and underrated, so I thought I could make something for them
The first name that comes to my mind for underrated is Urmila,she has given countless outstanding performances in her career and not one award. And for awhile she was type cast as the crazy psychopath women when she played a happy ambish women in Rangeela and the thug women type in Daud also village girl in flawless performance in Pinjar or spoiled rich girl in Judaai.But still she gave flawless hard performance in Bhoot, Ek Hasina Thi, Kaun , Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya nominated for all did not win, nominated for Bhoot the award went to Preity for Kal Ho Na Ho, nominated for Ek Hasina Thi the award went to Rani for Hum Tum, and she wasn't nominated for Pyaar tune, but nominated or not I hate how shes not remembered. She was all the range after Rangeela but it went down when Raja Hindustani came out. I suggest you watch the movies I mentioned,they r very nice.She is also underrated as a dancer
What can I say about Akshay,soo many movies so many different charcters played flawlessly,still forgotten. All I can say is not one movie has he overacted or played bad.Completly natural,no attuide.Hes cute n I love his smile.Movies that stand out to me is Border,Taal, Mohabbat,Dil Chanta Hai,Humraaz,Hulchul,Naqaab,Gandhi, My Father,Aakrosh.
I think Raveena is very forgotten as an actress ppl just remember her as Akki ex gf/finace or a very beautiful,but she was also a very good actress. Best so far is Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence , for which she won a national award. she was good in aks, satta, Shool,Pehchaan: The Face of Truth,Dobara. for entertainment I liked Mohra,Andaaz Apna Apna, Ziddi. She was very beautiful and a very good dancer.
I think Anil is a superstar but not known really for his acting,he has done every role known to man. Best for me Woh Saat Din(my fav. movie)Mashaal,Karma,Lamhe,Beta,Ram Lakhan,1942: A Love Story, Judaai ,Virasat,trimuta,Biwi No.1,Taal, My Wife's Murder,Yuvvraaj
I think everyone knows Vivek is a fanastic actor, his personal life kinda of to over that. Again,great performance minse Kyun Ho Gaya Na was his wrost,but compare to the topline today he is the best. Movies" Company,Saathiya,Masti,Kaal,Kisna,Home Delivery: Aapko... Ghar Tak, Shootout at Lokhandwala,Kurbaan,Rakht Charitra I
Okay so maybe hes not underrated anymore but for along time he was especially in the '90s. Bottomline is I think he is very natural and he has also done everytype of role. Movies:Phool Aur Kaante,Naajayaz,Pyar To Hona Hi Tha,Zakhm(national award),Kachche Dhaage,Thakshak,Company,The Legend of Bhagat Singh,Deewangee,Gangaajal,Kaal,Main Aisa Hi Hoon,Golmaal,Omakara,Raajneeti,Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai
also is a very good actor.Movies:Rocky,Khatron Ke Khiladi,Saajan,Khal Nayak,Gumrah,Dushman,Daag:The Fire,Vaastav: The Reality,Khoobsurat,Khauff,Mission Kashmir,Jodi No.1,Pitaah,Kaante,Munnabhai M.B.B.S.,Parineeta,Lage Raho Munna Bhai,Zinda,All The best
Also Saif Al Khan. He is also very underrated

bollywood where almost all men are woden faced and expressionless, akshay khanna has great expressions!
except for Akshaye Khanna and Urmila... none of them are under-rated... they have got a lot of fame and money and proper movie offers from the industry...
I think that Juhi Chawla has been always criminally underrated as an actresses. People always see her only as a comedian. Just watch her movies- Bas ek Pal, My brother Nikhil and even Salaam e Ishq where she was luminous as the wife whose husband cheated on her. Her senstivity and her vunerability has always shimmered at the surface but most filmmakers have never really scratched that surface. Its a pity really!

I have to agree w/ the anon quoted for some of the names..
Fardeen has improved since his beginning,it's such a pity that he's got some work who didn't match his level..and since manoj bajpai is included in the anon list,i have to tell u the truth - started 2 watch manoj's work in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai,and i thought he was not so good..but had seen a movie w/ him and Genelia(it was in telugu i guess,i was in London waiting 2 watch a movie in a small theatre and the guys were watching that) and he was pretty good though i didn't understood a word. But,to return to the comment,just see Manoj and Fardeen in Acid Factory,i think they(+ Aftab and Danny Denzongpa)were the best in that movie. Would like to see Fardeen more often in such films(not that he sucks in comedy,he got better also in that zone) So it's not that "they might be your personal fav" i'd say the same even if i wasn't a Fardeen's fan.
- Naseerudin Shah also is an another one whose got projects in a lower level but he's too good.
Then,for the "list" mentioned in this discussion,well..some i have to agree (Urmila,Akshaye Khanna 4 example) and some's not (Ajay Devgan - i saw All The Best and seriously 4 me he stole all the comedy awards which were meant for Sanju and Fardeen! - and i think he has become a sort of bore 4 me)

Great post! I agree with you for all of the actors..they are so underrated. Vivek is personally one of my favs and I hope he wins a best actor award soon! Same with Ajay, Akshay and Urmila. I do hope Urmila comes back to acting in movies.
Urmila is was beautiful but she had a sexy body. Her face was ugly and looked like ugly dimple´S FACE.
I think Raveena has always looked stunning and beautiful. Raveena looks like brooke sheilds and Angeline joli. Raveena is a very talented actress and has a good personality and I love her so much.
Does underrated = not very popular? I don't agree.
Underrated is when critics fail to see someone's talent at the release of a film. I'm not talking about not getting the pointless "filmfare award" circus. We know in India, the superb actors are those who get NATIONAL awards, not box office statuettes. None of the above is underrated in that sense, especially NOT Ajay Devgn or Urmila.
Sanjay Dutt has nothing to prove anymore, so does Vivek Oberoi. They are GOOD actors who choose not to be in the spotlight any more (they have had their share of paparazzi in their early career days!).
Akshay Khanna is a seasonal actor any way, and most of his films roles are good. Anil Kapoor is a character actor, who has played the same over and over, and got his statuettes for it too.
I think you might find it unfair because they are not in every page of Zoom Dekho, but that makes them more professional and less superficial, doesn't it? :)

guys guys this is not about superstars its about acting, anil i knw was a star both when I think when ppl think about him they think comedy or his smile etc,but in yuvvraj he was very good as an mentally challanged person,short hes a very good actor and I don't think people give him enough credit for that
And saif I think makes the news for being a bad boy or his love life but he is also a very good ACTOR, like did u knw he has won an national award

n @ moimeme Im not talking about their popularity or career Im talking about their acting abilities,they r underrated for that,every movie these people have done somewhere they have shown that they are gr8 actors, especially Akshaye Khanna. N Akshay Kumar also I think is underrated he has also shown his versatility in his movies like Khilda 420 and Ajnabee,Dhadkan,Sangharsh instead he has been typecast for comedies like housefull,and hey baby or latest tees mar khan. This is pure acting ability post, not popularity or career paths, if it were tat I would call it underrated career paths or whatever. n sweetheart I can read ur post once no need to post it twice
All of the actors you mentioned up there have gotten their dues at some point in their career. It was up to them to continue driving their careers in the right way, but they didn't. Take Urmila, she did a lot of bad movies but couldn't come back after that. Akshaye too, at some point, his movies weren't up to par. Sanjay Dutt was so popular but his law problems didn't make things easy for him. So, yes these actors could have still be popular today; it all depends on their choices and our preferences. Look at SRK, Hrithik, Amitabh Bachchan; they managed to pick themselves up after their bad choices and make a name for themselves. Akshay Kumar is the perfect example of going the way these "underrated stars" are..Just wait and watch!

Saif and Anil are not underated. Anil was the male superstar during the 80's - early 90's when it was Madhuri/Sridevi 's times. I hate him now because he is too old , his daughter has come in movie's but still he does crappy roles like Tashan/No Problem.
Urmila, I 100% agree, I also wanted to make a post on this, but don't have a pinkvilla account, so thanks for posting this. She was one of the greatest actress who could do hottie glam as well as simple girl roles. I love all her versatile roles. Filmfare is run by the Yashraj banner, they generally give best actor awards to actors in Yashraj /Karan Johar production movies only. She never got the awards and type of recognition she was due.Also with Akshay Khanna, she his damm good as an actor, but no recognition/no award.
Similar case with Tabu- she was nominated 5 times, never got Filmfare best actress. Another great actress was Manisha Koirala, who never got the award.
Filmfare is always biased towards Kajol/Maduri/Roshan. Maduri - for Hum Aapke Hain kaun( seriously it was a superhit, but what was the acting part in HAHK, Kajol is good actress but Kabhi Khusi Kabhi Gam, she had a moderate role, not such a great performance to award/Hritik for Dhoom-2 (awarded best actor for showing his body, and dancing stylishly he was the villain there, how could it be best actor?)
I think bollywood is ruled by people only who can give gossip/glamor, or are high profile like Kapoors/Khans/Bachans as well as Madam Kaif. I hate Katrina to the core. She just knows only to smile, no acting. Moreover, if she just delivers 1 silly dialogue, critics praise her like queen Elizabeth. These talented heroines whom you mentioned never got the praise they were due, and Madam Katrina expects National award for her cameo role in Rajneeti. She was nominated for hardly speaking 5-6 sentences in NewYork while the actors who really performed- John, Neil Nitin Mukesh/Irfan Khan were nowhere nominated/mentioned
What!!!!! This is just compilied of star kids!!!! What about the none star kids who are great actors and underrated and ignored due to not having filimi connections!!!! Sad that star kids who didnt get their due are mentioned are real good actors without a family behind them don't even get a mention

I think you forgot Salman Khan. The man has shown his incredible skill in movies like Tere Naam yet still never got best actor award. Sure, he's a superstar but has not got his dues.
