Ameesha wanted to do Deepika's role in Race 2 - Filmfare
Reportedly the actress is trying desperately to make a splash on the screen. So much that she won’t let go of any opportunity. So when producer Ramesh Taurani had trouble with his main heroine Deepika Padukone, who’d walked out of the project citing date issues, Ameesha reportedly called him up. Ameesha who’s doing a cameo in the movie wanted to do Deepika’s role. Ramesh Taurani chose to make Deepika see reason instead.

Deepika is way more relevant than her and thats what a film like Race 2 needs.
Well Amisha is a very limited actress but that wouldn't matter much in a movie like Race 2. It's all about popularity and that's why she would not be able to fill Deepika's shoes.

deepika just plays the same boring role in every film: bratty, selfish, westernized woman wearing skimpy clothes.
@Nabby H: Well, let's see. She has three films coming up shortly so I'm hoping she impresses. She hadn't delivered a bad performance after Ankahee IMO. Although the roles weren't very demanding in Aap Ki Khatir, Honeymoon Travels, Bhool Bhulaiyya & Thoda Pyaar, I still thought she did a fairly decent job.
@Nabby H: Whether Ameesha was responsible for the success of those movies or not, she did full justice to the roles IMO. Which other newcomer could have pulled off a Gadar?
As for her acting skills, I think the reason her acting did not improve is because she worked with bad directors and co-stars to match. Look at Katrina for example, she is not known for her acting skills but she has shown a tremendous improvement through the years. Whereas Ameesha, she seldom got the chance to act opposite big stars in big banners one after the other. Since she was receiving decent offers, I would blame her bad choices and family estrangement. However, she did show spark when she was in the hands of good directors and plausible scripts.
Nowadays, contemporary actresses handle their career way better than actresses did back then as they don't sign anything that comes their way. In fact, Ameesha said the only film she signed after KNPH released was Humraaz. Her movies such as Aap Mujhe, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Humko Tumse Pyar Hai, etc. were all signed beforehand. That's why she turned down many good offers afterwards. Even powerhouse actresses like Rani and Preity made awful choices but had big banners to back them up.

When she first came in Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, I really liked her and hoped that she'd do well for herself. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Aap Mujhe Ache Lagne Lage, Mere Jeevan Sathi and all that - she has the same expressions. Many a times, when she delivers her dialogues as if she's out of breath. All in all, I don't find her acting convincing enough as many others (below) agree with me. I have nothing personally negative to say about her. This is strictly based on her work. One contemporary actress who's convincing to me is Parineeti. expressions, attitude for her character, she does have the factor to go places. I wish Ameesha does the same finally.

Once she plays a mother in distress, an unfaithful wife or a divorced woman then come and talk! I don't think she has the capabilities to pull off these types of roles, at least now at this point of her career.
Your comparison is just stupid and senseless. Ameesha has not had a great record but she pulled off complex roles so early in her career and was appreciated for that. Deepika has a long way to go!! Let's just leave it at that!

It wasn't really just Ameesha's doing. Gadar had a story that appealed to people's emotional senses and the Sunny Deol mass loved it. Sure, Ameesha wasn't terrible but she wasn't good either. Humraaz was not at Ameesha's doing. If I may state it, Akshay Khanna stole the show. He was the villain but for me, he was the guy for the movie. Ameesha's acting hasn't really improved in all these years. Even if she's made poor movie choices, her actings skills would show. I'm not saying that Deepika is a tremendous actress and yes she's the modern Veronica, Meera but she does pull that off well. She wasn't terrible in Arakshan either. Most importantly, Deepika has the looks, the body for Race type of films. Ameesha fits romantic roles better.

Ended after KNPH?! She won awards for Gadar and was nominated for Humraaz. So I would say it ended thereafter. There was a huge buzz around her back then if you remember, Kareema had to take her name to be in the news! Look how times have changed.

Ameesha Patel can't act at all. Deepika is not the best but I feel that she's a lot better than Ameesha and Deepika can pull off certain types of roles. She has the look.

She is not playing a cameo as she has been shooting for many days and even appears in two songs in the film. Her role will be more of a third lead (I guess you can call it extended cameo) just like Sameera Reddy in the previous one, although I feel Ameesha will have more screen presence.
I really wish that Ameesha gets her due in Bollywood.. It's tough to prove your mettle in Bollywood without connections. Ameesha was never involved with a celebrity for ulterior motives. I just feel that she should have turned producer back in 2008 instead of signing crapfests like Run Bhola Run and Chatur Singh Two Star.
We can only hope she will succeed as a producer, and that her current projects turn out well. Shortcut Romeo should be an average at least and Bhaiyyaji Superhit seems promising, if she is playing the lead in both movies then it will do her good. Race 2 is a guaranteed hit but she won't get any credit for its success just like Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
