I agree with everyone here. It's admirable that the Bachans have chosen to live here, a house that hasn't changed since 1976 even though they can live in any part of the world and in any big, glamorous house with the money they have. But you can tell they have a lot of memories in this house and Amitabh Bachan probably doesn't want to part with that. And overall, the house is quite beautiful, serene, and very GREEN! It looks eco-friendly. I would love to have a house like this with green all around and plants everywhere. It looks cool because it looks as if it's in a tropical place even though it's in Mumbai. I didn't know they had houses like this in Mumbai because it seems like such a polluted city. So I'm glad AB planted a tree in his back yard. He's truly humble. All those big stars like Srk and Salman need to learn a little something from AB. He's so humble.
And a great writer I might add! If he wrote a book I'm sure people would buy it because he is very intelligent. I've read some of his blog entries and I must say I was surprised I thought I was reading a book by an author or something.Btw is the white building in the back his or is it not?

LOL... am just reading about people commenting on AB's house...some say their house is bigger and others say his house is shabby...hahahah.... well good luck to you... what a bunch of airhead morons...people that said that in the arrogant way are so airheadly stupid it makes one wonder how they manage to even type out the sentence they did!!!!

Anyway...to those that don't respect simplicity... have you been inside his house? do you know all the properties he owns around it? Perhaps you didn't know that this house has been ab's since the early 70's? and he has preserved it in this manner? Perhaps he doesn't like to splash out to make moronic people say oh what a beautiful house... have you seen his other new houses? And what exactly is wrong with this house? In that its just simple and green? and thats a bad thing in an overpolluted city like mumbai? And to the person in bangalore whose house is 10x bigger... you need to get your head and brain to become 10x bigger and get a 1000x humility in your personality!

It's just shock to see how materialistic people are!!! There is no respect for people to be humble and grounded you got to show your money or you will be abused like some of the fools did here!!!

have u ever heard any of ur parents saying, oh! we had to work so hard to get this!! or may be, this is the first ever I got!! this house is also like that, he has built it will lot of love and care with his own hard earned money, and only he knows the value of it!!

Tue, 2010-11-16 11:48 — Anonymous -> they have side homes.. but the true heritage home is a TRUE HOME>
home is not just the best $ can buy.. it is the best memories .
that makes the house special and that's why AB luvs his house. it shows.. this pride .

  • Anonymous's picture

This clearly shows how deeply honoring of the middle-class roots the Bachchans are.
no matter how big their wealth, they honor their heritage, even if it was humbler!!

that luv shows up in the pride he has for his home. he speaks of travelling the world in 5 star places for tourss, etc.. and loooking forward to simple rice-daal and his home to come home to his barking dog and home-made chai.

Amitabh is truly a BIG STAR of India because of his deep honor to his roots and work.

    GO AB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(and no, not even a fan of the Bachchans.. but after seeing home photos.. just might be).

with all the money he makes you think he would have something to show for it, listen people, AB AND his family has been living in the his parents home, so therefore its' a family tradition to keep the old 150 year old home for legacy purposes. the lawn needs proper care and those trees need to be trim as well as brushes are growing all over, meaning that they are bacteria build up. i hope they think about soem serious renovations. soon. take care Ab

The house looks dilapidated. It needs a major overhaul. So what if it's old. Old buildings are constantly being restored and renovated like the centuries old apartment buildings in Paris, Rome, etc.

so peaceful and serene. In mumbai, one has to be lucky to live like this. Think of chawls and crammed one bedroom apartments! I would love to live like this. The gulmohar tree is beautiful. I didn't like SRK's house, it shows his huge EGO.

I am surprised they don't have a beautiful Spanish bungalow by the sea in Versova as so many rich people in Mumbai have.

And Versova is very near central Mumbai. So it's not a problem getting to and from Mumbai.

its very hard to get a house like this in a very expensive city like mumbai. those who are saying there house are bigger must be living in a small town.

  • Anonymous's picture

Ha! Dumb people who are calling his house small. Um! Maybe he doesn't give a crap about living in a giant mansion and would rather reside in this pretty tranquil place. Not something retarded money minded jerks would understand.

  • Anonymous's picture

The house looks so serene...Its very difficult to find Green Spots in Mumbai for common people like us...Its good to see that Bacchan family has treasured the yard/garden and not ended up making it into a Spa or swimming pool...Its suits Amitabh-Jaya Age...but may be aish n abhi can enjoy their younger days in more youthful pad...

THE SIZE OF THE HOUSE DOES NOT MATTER, BUT IT GIVES PEACE IN A MANIAC CITY LIKE MUMBAI, WHICH IS ALWAYS CROWDED, I LIKE A SMALL HOUSE AND A BIG LAWN!! ONE SHOULD ALWAYS HAVE A GARDEN IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE WHICH PUTS ONE IN A RELAXED MOOD AFTER A HECTIC DAY. I REALLY LOVE BIG B's HOUSE AND THE LAWN, IT IS REALLY SOOTHING, AND BIG B REALLY LOOKS RELAXED!! NICE TO SEE HIM RELAXED LIKE THIS!

yeh the house seems small but prolly it is the angel....

and it is his house , who cares, he is happy....it does seem like an old house, the layout seems small but i won't be suprise if it is spacious from inside

this is the house they lived in when Abhi and Shweta were kids, you can't see much but it is huge. Some years ago they built another palatial place called Jalsa where they mostly live now. Apparently the interior decor, done by Jaya herself is stunning, very Indian and artistic, my friend who is a journalist went to interview Abhi over there.

my house is 10 times bigger and um from bangladesh

  • Anonymous's picture

To people who are saying it's small, it's not...because i think the Bachchans own the brown bunglow you see plus the white building in the back, so it's pretty big, and i think that's only half the bunglow, it probably looks bigger from the front...

The land looks big, house not so much. Its the land which is priceless.
I am sure they have the bucks to tear down the house and build the most OTT house ever on such a great piece of land. But it probably holds a lot of sentimental values to AB Sr, and he does not want to let go of them.

no offence but do they all fit in this house? it looks so small to me. I wonder if ashwarya has made some changes in the furniture and stuff. i really admire her for living with her inlaws.
How much would such a house cost? Most of the celebrities live in apartments. are real state prices very high in mumbai?
