Chitrangada Singh's foray into commercial cinema - Has it really worked ?
Chitrangada Singh - the name is enough to bring back memories of the unaduleterated simple beauty from Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. The movie that marked her debut did not make it big at the box office. But, Chitrangada grabbed everyone's attention. After Hazaaron, she acted in another off-beat movie Sorry Bhai and went away from the limelight. She came back in 2011 only to foray into commercial cinema. Desi Boyz did not do much for her. And going by the way she has taken her career path, it seems like she ismore interested and will stick to commerical cinema. My question to you is, should Chitrangada have stayed away from hard-core commerical cinema? With her doing commerical cinema, I feel she has lost her mojo. If not for that, she could have very well been today's Vidya Balan. She is talented, beautiful and intelligent. Thoughts?

Not really a fan her but she did a wonderful job in YSZ. In DB she did a decent job. She over-shadowed Deepika in that movie. Whether she should stop doing commercial cinema or nt its too early to say anything. Let her do at 2 to 3 commercial movie u will get ur answer.
when everybody wanted her, she left the industry and got married...and now when she wants it, nobody wants her!! sad but true!
When she did "i want to fakht you" song, she decided to become more like mallika sherawat/sunny leone than vidya balan.
I find her very talented and stunning
wow!!...like it! like it
I think she is a sexy but an overrated actress.
I think, though she still manages to be b'ful/confident/sexy, her Diva status kinda plummeted when she started doing the barbie doll roles... may be even lost in the sea of wannabes! choosing meatier roles can probably save her..
I think actresses should have the freedom to try both without being labeled as a particular genre/cinema actress. She did the artsy films with the critical acclaim and now shes trying her hand out at a lighter/more fun side of Hindi cinema, the key is to not lose her identity and keeping the 'acting' part alive, lets see if shes able to do that.
She is hot sexy and of course a good actress ,but honestly it's too bad Indians don't want to see an older /married women in main lead..
She is already 36 or something(?) has already wasted lots of time doing other things so, now i give her another 2-3 years and she will be gone for good and busy doing character roles.
she's someone who's capable of pulling off complicated roles...this the industry know...she knows..and the audience know...
also the vidya balan comparison is kinda weird considering their debut movie's both came out the same year
i've heard chitrangada compared to smita patil..pratiek's mom..which makes more sense
Chitragada had a lot of presence even in the godawful Desi Boyz; she was sexy and confident. Her next film, btw, is Sudhir Misra's Kaam/Inkaar, and she did Yeh Saali Zindagi last year. Neither are hardcore commercial films. She is a gorgeous woman who can act, and obviously mainstream filmmakers will take notice. Whether she does mainstream films or independent films, all that matters is her choice of screenplay and her performance. I actually think she makes a great foil to the A-ist mainstream actors. She doesn't pale in front of them, she makes for an age-appropriate pairing, and she has screen presence. I'd love to see her with Shahrukh or Aamir.

commercial cinema = endorsements
endorsements = more $$
endorsement $$ > movie $$ -- at least for women, anyway
she has enough time to do women-centric films, for right now she wants to be glam and she's darn good at it too

She was good in her other offbeat films, Kal and Yeh Saali Zindagi as well. I won't call her an amazing actress. She does the urban ambiguous woman well. Her foray into commercial cinema may not prove to be highly successful. No doubt, she is very beautiful and looks like a star but there are too many younger actresses, some even with acting chops, who would be preferred by producers. She should find a niche. Maybe a commercial film with a twist rather than being a showpiece or a hero's shadow like other mainstream actresses.
i dunno y u ppl give vidya balance so mch importance. the lady herself admitted that she is nt a typical bollywd heroine hence her attraction toward diff kinda cinema -----low budget, low scale, boring. she realised tht neithr does she hav da looks nor da personality, thts y she has distanced herself frm commercial film. ppl like her shud act in dramas i.e off screen
I think she forayed into mediocrity when she decided to put on those awful contacts. She was brilliant and natural in Hazar Khwaishen Aisi, stay true. Smita and Shabana played powerful and fragile characters in the most unfettered way.
