DEEPIKA PADUKONE-Her fiercely independent and ravishing performance in Cocktail was carried out with much aplomb by Deepika Padukone. Although she's never really come up with a great performance before,Cocktail is sure to change that perception.That along with the fairly big range of films(retro,period,thriller,comedy),big hits with big stars,and those long,long legs and sultry looks make her a perfect fit for the throne of No.1.
ANUSHKA SHARMA-She along with Parineeti and Kangana undeniably have the best acting chops among the Gen-Y actresses.In just a few films she has proven her versitality and spontaneity by acting in 4 consecutive back-to-back hits.Commercially she's been saleable and critically too she has been widely acclaimed.Added advantage?She's damn cute,has a great figure and can dance very well.
SONAM KAPOOR-Although I don't find her to be a great actress and though all her films save one have flopped at the BO I've got to admit Sonam is a born star.She's got a certain WOWWW factor that is her appeal and her mainstay despite a bad run at the box office.Plus with her lithe figure,gorgeous features,god-given fashion sense with a terrific wardrobe and incredible poise for modelling Sonam's certainly Heroine No.1 material.
PARINEETI CHOPRA-Cousin of superstar Priyanka Chopra,Parineeti seems to be as much of a diva as her sister. She's a tremendous actress,one of the best actually,regardless of her age. In 2 films she's shown the kind of spark and potential and polished acting that actresses double her age cannot show.She was terrific in Ishaqzaade and Ladies V/s Ricky Bahl,and she's very naturally cute.So hopefully she'll be the future no.1.
KANGANA RANAUT-In terms of acting ability I believe Kangana is miles ahead of her cookie-cutter contemporaries however I don't think she has it in her to be No.1. Not because she's not a good actor,but because she much rather belongs to the league of actors who are in between commercial and parallel cinema,and who haven't really proven their popularity.Which is a shame really considering that she's gorgeous,has a great fashion sense,is extremely versatile,has a large no.of hits and is a fab actress with a National Award to boot.
SONAKSHI SINHA-Sonakshi managed to hold her own in Dabanng though I didn't find her great in Rowdy Rathore. Both these films have been massive blockbusters at the box-office with both crossing the 100cr mark and with Joker also coming out this year,Sonakshi's BO strength will even surpass Kareena's. However although she's pretty and talented I think she won't get to show her talent by being in male centric films.
ASIN-Her first film with Aamir Khan became a huge hit but after that Asin disappeared in thin air just to appear again with several 100cr films in her kitty. She has it in her to be no.1 but frankly I think she starts to work in more female-centric films.
Although I haven't really ranked them in any order I do think that Deepika Padukone has the highest no. of chances to be the next No.1 heroine because she has a certain WOW factor and looks to be a superstar. Although the others might be more talented than her,D-Pad has got a more star quality to her.She's got the looks,the acting chops,the hot quotient,BO hits and star appeal to her.So best of luck Deepika!!!!!

I think it will be Deepika! Sonam has a chance if she improves her acting a bit and chooses better scripts because she does have that "wow" factor in her! Anushka and Parineeti also have high chances! Others like Jacqueline, Diana, Ileana, Esha, Sonakshi, Shraddha, Asin, Alia and Kangana, though are wonderful and will be extremely popular in their own right, will probably be left behind by the others (however will remain in the top 10-15)!
not even a single girl in todays bollywood can match the yesterdays actresses like sri devi meenakshi sheshadri rekha hema malini. or mumtaaz in beauty. well built figure or acting.

its deepika. honestly , even though anushka sharma can act some what , she doesn't know how present herself. i am sorry if i offend you , but the new episode of on the front row with anupama chopra. you know there is this ommph factor , which deepika has that none of her contemporaries do. which is why she is the superstar in making .

And I don't think Kareena, Priyanka, and Katrina are going anywhere. They are ruling Bollywood right now and at this rate they will stay her for another 5 to 10 years or even longer. If Kareena has a baby or etc then PC will still be here. (Priyanka and Kareena) are both number one Heriones to me. If they both leave highly unlikely then Kat will take their place.
These actresses are only hitting their 40's. I think you should be writing articles on the KHAN's retiring they are almost 50.

Very interesting read, what is actually number one actress?, please can someone define that?. all the girls mentioned here are either ex models, star daughter and the rest.
i. Anushka is an ordinary looking girl but with real acting chops she has talent but is she versatile ,does she have the range? But the only way to find out is when writers start writing again and stop depending on big sets, good looks and marketing gimmicks.
2. Deepika is great to look at but she is more known for her high profile relationships and modelling gigs, she reminds me of Bipasha, she is an average actress but she is yet to act in more serious roles or comedies before she can be tagged an actress,.
3. Kangana is the most talented but she is not a comic actor she reminds me of Shabana Azmi very deep, she is too deep for the kind of masala nonsense that is being churned out these days by bollywood, well it is all about the profits. What she does the rest of the girls can't. She is way too unique. She is fit for certain kind of films ,serious roles like Vidya.
4. Sonam reminds me of a young Saif who was a movie star before he became an actor, Sonam has no talent, she is too tall and must learn how to turn those long limbs into star assests and not akward appendages. She should be careful with her mouth, she is becoming another Kareena talk, talk, talk. She has an opinion about every body and her publicist should teach her restrain. She is just coasting by because of her father's name, I watched her in Aisha and Masusam and she is just bland. Another katrina Kaif, bland and no depth.
It is up to her to seriously sit down and repackage her self, she is not sexy, she is not beautiful, she is not comic and she is not really talented. The truth is that I don't know what she is doing here, she will not last, Esha Deol remember any one?
Sonakshi is fat and has only acted in two movies where she had only in 2 or 5 mintues in Dabbang and Rowdy Rathore. She reminds me of Hema Malini true Indian beauty. Let us sit and watch ,she has more movies to go before we can judge if she is good or not.
Pareeniti reminds me of Rani they are no great lookers but what they lack in looks they pack in talent, there is something endearing and sweet about her. I hope she revives the good days when bollywood had actors like Kajol who was just an actress with this huge talent, she was no dancer like Sridevi and Madhuri but boy Kajola and Rani my God, talent. I hope Pareeniti is around to essay such roles the only challenge she will have is that Bollywood does not make good movies any more they only thing in there movies are ex models, star children, star nephews, star wives (malaika) and few actresses ,tasteless scripts and big sets with exotic locations, where are the stories?
Kareena is miss talkative, she insults people and has no regard for anyone, she is only good for bubbly roles the only roles that have brought her prominence is over the top Poo and the non stop talking girl in JWM. After that she has just been a beautiful prop in the SRK and Salman Khan movies. She is known only for her high profile relationships, insulting other actresses, her sister's unhappy marraige and her acting family. After that then what, give me a break. She can do only one role, talk, talk, talk and more talk. She is frightfully insecure. The truth is that Kareena has relaxed and become lazy, why not, when Miss zzzzzzzzz kaif is paid crores for standing about. Let us see what happens with Heroine?
Priyanka takes risks which is good she is above average when it comes to talent but she does not have the depth of VIdya and Kangna. She tried her hands in some very way off beat roles which flopped but I don't think the scripts where up to par to drive the theme., she is not in the same kind of leauge like Madhuri when it come to dancing, she will be around. I think she needs good scripts to continue to be relevant.
Katrina Kaif is one huge joke, that girl killed the actress in Bollywood movies, she can't even speak hindi, she is just lucky, she cannot act, I think she is just Lazy and has refused to improve on her acting and I don't blame her, if people are offering her huge sums of money to smile and dance and look beautiful, who are we to complain but please don't call her an actress. She is just a prop, she has only acted in movies where the actors are the ones acting and she is just smiling and prancing about. The truth is I don't know how she managed to still be around,she is one lucky girl. Let us watch and see, but if those considered to be her contenders are less talented, then this girls will continue to bore me to death. I will just continue to grin and bear it.
Aishwarya is the biggest fluke of them all, Aish is not a natural actress she is a director's actress and terribly inconsistent. It took SLB only God knows what to get her to act in HDDCS. She is not talented that is the truth. Like a true scorpio she saw the opportunity to make money from acting and grabbed it with both hands. Her PR machine did a fantastic job to keep her in our faces all these years. Good she has semi retired but the truth is that she might be difficult to cast after loosing that killer face to age. She can dance but she lacks the spunk like Madhuri, Kajols and Sridevi. Aish got prominence because bollywood producers dropped the true actresses and ushered in the era of Ex-Miss this and that. Her success is just plain luck. The truth I think she should retire quietly.
