The world's biggest film star that you haven't heard of! - UK Media talks about SRK 0

Shah Rukh Khan, who was in London earlier this week on a whirlwind promotional tour for his upcoming release, Chennai Express, has literally caught the fancy of the British Media!

After charming audiences in ITV's Lorraine show with co-star Deepika Padukone (who by the way kept drawing comparisons to Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie), Shah Rukh was today featured in the The Times newspaper.

The top line on the front page reads: 'Meet the World's Biggest Film Star'.

This is the first time that the newspaper has given such importance to an Indian celebrity. Looks like there's no stopping the Badshah of Bollywood!!

Waw this lady has some serious issues with srk! sounds more like she's reporting for attention rather than "telling the truth" .. he's human & makes mistakes but he's def not arrogant! her article came across as really unprofessional & sarcastic and she made every effort to misconstrue & quote him to her convenience.

My opinion: srk has carved his place in bollywood as other stars have done, its not fair to compare who's bigger than who.. He DEF doesnt need validation for his success from this Catherine Nixey. He has survived in Bollywood after so many years & has earned the title "King Khan". I'm not a die hard fan, but i respect him more than most.

Funny thing is, before this no one even knew who Catherine Nixey is. Now she has become famous, all because she wrote a very unprofessional article on SRK! As Voiceswriter said, she even trended on Twitter. She must have never dreamed about that. Now that because of SRK she has become famous worldwide for her lousy journalism and after trending on Twitter plus the way her article has backfired, hope now she has realized the global popularity of SRK and how big a movie star he is! Poetic justice.

SRK is the biggest Indian star if you consider worldwide popularity. Earlier we had Raj Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan who were global ambassadors of Indian cinema and in this modern age it is Shah Rukh Khan!
He's achieved it all without trying hard to please Westerners or hungering for Oscars.
He's The Badshah and for good reason!

nobody can deny that shahrukh is absolutely arrogant.....n king of bollywood is undoubtedly the suave n dignified mr bachchan who also definitely knows he is good ...has a huge fan following but doesnt show arrogance or throw a fit when rules are applied to him just as for the rest of the public ...... bachchan may also expect to b treated differently but doesnt display arrogance.... remember if u r making money from the tickets bought by the masses you cannot behave arrogantly towards them when they try to show their love/admiration for you. Actors /superstars are people their fans look up to and emulate....so when these heroes expect rules to b broken for them you cant blame their followers/fans when they do the same....but unfortunately they have no stardom to sail them through

In America if someone is famous he or she will be automatically famous everywhere due to the strong media system and the fact that it has been built in such way that everyone watch their channels. So, if one crap singer has one big hit song in HW we will hear it right away from the media. While in case of SRK he guilted Himself with film after film and reached it places despite the weakness of the Indian media and not being propylaea anywhere. Now that's a real power.

And as I remember first ever film entered the top ten of US was Dil Se and SRK had amazing reviews and appreciation. And that with very very limited screens

So educate yourself before writing things you don't know about.

I wish him more success in the future. And for sure he will go more places and more with him being the most famous one out there without the need of rubbish like you all who demanding his status.

France, UK, Germany, Italy, and many more foreign people love him there and other countries as well. Go beyond your small box and smell the coffee.

OH!! Please Stop, with the PR trash. This is only for his movie!!! He is NOT the biggest film star nor is "Big B", only to the Indians they big. Trust me I am a Indian, in America and he is nothing here. Only in Indian populations , maybe crazy for them. Please win a bloody Oscar, and then you are a "Big Film Star". Now AR Rahman, is called BIG, an Oscar winner who is down to earth. It is always Bollywood stars that make the news when ever they have a movie coming up. You don't need to go to every country to promote your movie, stop begging for your movie. Remember Ra.1 :) No one in Hollywood does that, unless it was a location that was involved in the movie. Let your movie speak for you acting. 75 movies with the same old stories, and nothing new. I don't believe he deserved most of his "awards" that he got or bought!.

she wrote this article with the a single biased judgement in her head, which is that srk is pompous and contradictory. I found the bodyguard quip to be very very biased. Sure he might not have any fans loitering INSIDE the hotel but anyone who has seen him outside in action knows the magnitude of his fans.

Srk does have his flaws and there are times as a fan, when I am disappointed in him but none of the other big stars (amir, salman etc) are as accessible or loving to his fans as he is and that is why he will always be mine and other's favorite irregardless of other people's opinions of him.

Some people getting happy with this uninformed piece of journalism here just because it is about SRK, I have news for you. I hear Catherine Nixey has discriminatory tendencies and doesn't much like those who don't look "British" to her. She also fancies and praises British actors like Hugh Grant. So of course she wouldn't be too pleased if an Indian actor is called the world's biggest star and not a British one. She would have written the same about any other Indian actor and actress it seems. Plus, she is not having a favourable view of all of Bollywood based on what she has written in this article.

Bollywood stars have more 'number of fans' because we south Asians breed like rats and produced 1.5 billion babies and still growing. We prefer quantity over quality. Btw World's half of the poor is living in S.Asia. We should be proud of it.Coming to B-wood's popularity across the world I have lived in UK until last year to do my masters. There only Sourh Asians (most of them who run taxis liquor stores kebab takeaways, fish&chips & grocery stores ) are B-wood fans. None of the British follow our films. In fact even the second generation NRIs who are born & brought up there are averse to Hindi films. This is fact.

Everyone has seen pics of tens of thousands of people shouting his name and waiting for a glimpse of him, it's hard to be totally humble for anyone in the face of all that. And in terms of sheer number of fans and their devotion, SRK and Amitabh ARE the biggest stars in the world.

She also questions why SRK needs so many bodyguards. Well lets see Catherine Nixey.

How about because of this (first pic below)? (Images taken at Bhopal, India; Ahmedabad, India; Kolkata, India; Dubai, UAE; Marrakesh, Morocco; Berlin, Germany; Toronto, Canada; and Catherine Nixey's town London, UK).

And what is this (second pic below)? SRK waving to 1000s outside his home Mannat? How is that possible? According to Catherine Nixey, that doesn't happen even for the Queen of UK.

Plus, she is generalizing Bollywood movies and bad-mouthing all of them as if Hollywood movies are all very clean. I guess Catherine Nixey is shocked that SRK is actually as big as she has heard and that is why in disbelief and shock she forgot to do her home work and research before writing and wrote such an uninformed article.

  • hipsdontlie's picture

Have you heard of him? Exactly my point. Forget about the world, he isn't even India's biggest star. He needs a tribute to Rajni to sell his movie and it isn't the first time he used Rajnikant to sell a movie. Some big star. Rajnikant, Amitabh and Salman(although i despise him) are bigger stars than him.

The comparison to Tom Cruise is absolutely ridiculous. Just the 4 MI series movies of Tom's made more than 2 Billion$. SRK's entire movies collections aren't even one tenth of it. The fact that he is compared with TOM itself says about the kind of star Tom Cruise is. You never hear it the other way round, I mean nobody would say Tom is bigger than SRK to make Tom look important.

Its funny how he considers himself King and extremely humble at the same time. Its rude to smoke in a non smoking area and especially in the presence of a female. But his arrogance-self considers himself above the law and rules.

Wow what a biased article! Shahrukh might not be the most humble person on earth but this article makes him sound obnoxious! Did the interviewer even care about doing prior research on him? Having just the knowledge about the number of his twitter followers and the number of movies he has acted in is grossly insufficient! The world does not revolve around the West. He might have only a dozen people waiting outside his hotel in the UK, but people across Germany, Morocco, Malaysia and several other countries would be over the moon with just one glimpse of him! He is swarmed with fans during international events. The simplest of his opinions create controversies. Kids ranging from 3 to 75years old individuals know who Shahrukh Khan is and this might hold true across not just the Indian Subcontinent but other countries as well.

I stopped short of liking him long ago, due to the kind of seemingly arrogant quotes he used to give earlier (I loved him in Fauji and "kabhi Haan, Kabhi Naa" but those were before he became popular), but most of the people I know, my husband included, love him AND he is big superstar. This piece is so damaging and insulting that my skin crawled to read it. This is so humiliating. @Bollyblog , did u actually read this before posting?? She is making fun of Shahrukh for his apparent "humility" because she felt that he thinks too highly of himself

Ok so I read the article and I have to say I am disappointed to say the least! Yes SRK is the world's biggest movie star as the headline says, but Catherine Nixey has done a very poor job writing the article itself. She has not done any research on SRK and has taken parts of his interview out of context to prove her own biased and uninformed views.

If SRK says he goes out of his house every weekend to wave to his well wishers, he is not lying! Everyone knows there is always a big crowd in front of Mannat waiting for SRK's one glimpse and there are 1000s of pics and videos to prove it. All she needed to do was to Google SRK and search for YouTube videos of him.

And this article is full of such uninformed views by Catherine Nixey. It looks like she has no clue about India, Indian films, Indian culture, and SRK, or for that matter other Indian actors and actresses, but she sees it somehow fit to write an article on all of it without doing any homework.

A very poor piece of journalism!

    --------------------

Completely agree!! Such poor journalism and bad publicity -- almost negative publicity for SRK. I am sure he must be thinking I wish I had not done this interview.
