VINTAGE: Rekha’s 1984 Interview with Filmfare magazine about her affair with Amitabh Bachchan

And what do you know, after almost 30 years the story has been repeated with SRK &PC.

Rekha and Amitabh affair is an ongoing mystery that will never fade away. The way they act towards each other might be hate or love who is to know but like some else already mentioned I think Amitabh's love is always his 'image' not his wife or Rekha.

The thing that caught my eye was her fantasy of having children "imagine children running up the stairs"

Despite all the success, still such little happiness is not fulfilled! I guess so many wish to have the life celebs have, thn again some sacrifices they have to make!

PaniPuri please stop posting old news articles about yesteryears actors/actresses..things have changed drastically in these stars lives from then to now. It's no fair to dig up there past and now hold it against them. Amithabh Bachchan and Rekha has moved on from this affair, Amithabh Bachchan is living a happy family life with his wife, kids, grandkids, and daughter-in-law. Rekha is also happy with her life now.
This is not fair. No more long aga interviews please.

When it comes to Amitabh Bachchan, I guess Rekha is a kinda crazy, so I don't doubt even for a second that her vanity case said 'Rekha Bachchan'. Also, I believe that they spent a lot of time together on the sets of their movies. I read somewhere that when the director was casting the actress opposite Amitabh, Jaya didn't want Rekha, and said that she would be really upset if he did. On the other hand, Rekha was putting pressure on the director to cast her opposite Amitabh or she would not let any other actress get the part. And apparently Rekha behaved like a complete wife towards Amitabh on the sets.

I've heard of the Parveen Babi affair before and you know what, I kind of do believe that it happened and then him leaving her probably did push further into mental problems but I do not think it was all Amitabh's fault.

And thank you, there are a few people who always put in their two cents which is nice. And those are the people who make it all worth while! Thank you guys for liking these vintage posts :)

I'm confused with this whole mess. On her interview with Simi Garewal Rrendezvous, she said there is NO affair. Anyway, it seems now he hates her & avoid her like she's a psycho ex-girlfriend. She seems to ignore his clue of "get loss, I don't want to have anything to do with you". She acts like she always wants to be close to him, by going up to talk and hug Jaya, Abhi, & Ash when he is there with them. She should just stay at her space & ignore them. I don't see them going to her to say hi. If they did have an affair, to him it's an affair NOT to remember. Rekha should read the book and see the movie "He's not that into you". If he was, he would have leave his wife and married her.

Agreed with anon. I dont think Jaya and aish have a healthy relationship. There whole family in fact seems weird and artificiala nd fake near cameras. All smiles plastered on their face etc. But in reality I dont think theyre what they portray themselves to be. I think the kids are bitter towards amitabh. I think jaya is bitter towards amitabh which is CLEARLY visible. Then I think Jaya is not too into AIsh. ButAish and Abhi seem happy, which is good. May they alwys be happy. Im not an aish fan, but I do wish for all couples to be happy.

Ab chose Jaya. Jaya won! Sour Grapes. He never loved Rekha.

Rekha stalks Amitabh. He never loved her. He has gone on to spend 30 yrs more with Jaya after thisinterview.

The way Amitabh treats Rekha nowadays is weird! on one hand he is denying any affair with her, then why be so indifferent to her presence? He is not even cordial to her at events. Isnt that behaviour odd? If he was her costar in so many blockbuster films and says he didnt have a romantic liking for her, why cant he be nice to his costar and greet her at functions? Instead, he avoids her like the plague and acts as if she doesnt exist. That makes one more curious to know the real story! such a behaviour is justified only when a person has special interests in the other person and is trying hard to avoid media attention at any cost. Poor Rekha; must be feeling exploited. Should hang the married men who do such things!

I have read this interview before and others by her in the same era... she apparently befriended both Jaya and Amitabh and took a lot of advice from both of them, and saw Jaya as a sister and learned acting from Amitabh, so she said. They were somewhat of mentors or role models for her but at some point she must have fallen in love with Amitabh (like 1/2 the country at that time) but it was one sided. Still she persisted and went to the media with her feelings, bashing Jaya and praising Amitabh. I seriously think she was trying to break them up and position herself as his woman. Well that didn't work out for her, but I sometimes wonder that if she WAS dating him for 10 years as claimed and she WAS so desperate for public validation as we see in this interview, wouldn't she have tried to produce a love child to support her public outcry that he was her decade long lover?

In any case, she certainly has mellowed out, we don't see her screaming from the rooftops about her long term lover Farzana, she prefers to keep that relationship more low key for reasons that only she knows! But one thing's for sure, she sure gave entertaing interviews and they just don't make them like Rekha anymore!

He can deny as much as they like now, but a lot of people in India know that they were going out together & very much an item at one time.

Not wanting to name names, but an acquaintance, who worked with Yash Chopra amongst others, told us that while traveling he noticed Rekha used to have 'Rekha Bachchan' as the name on her vanity case. Also, they would spend an awful long time together in their dressing rooms ! This was even on the sets of Silsila with poor Jaya waiting for them on the sets. In fact Yash Chopra deliberately made that film to cash in on their affair.

Another thing was around the same time he was carrying on with poor Praveen Babi. I was at his concert in London in 1985 where she also appeared. They danced & mimed to the song 'Angregi Mein Kahte Hein I Love You' from 'Khuddar'. Soon after she disappeared suffering from a nervous breakdown. When she did eventually return, in all her interviews she would constantly blame him for causing it. However, he is very well connected & she was just made out to be mentally imbalanced - how sad ...
