Aishwarya Rai Bachchan becomes first Indian actress to demand share in film profits
Source: India Today Heroes in Bollywood demand for their share of profits from films. It seems Aishwarya Rai is all set to change the rules in the industry. The buzz is that Ash has slashed her remuneration price and instead has demanded a share in the profit of her upcoming film Heroine. Madhur Bhandarkar, who is making the film is known for making tight budget films. UTV Motion Pictures along with Bhandarkar Entertainment, director Madhur and the lead stars of Heroine have taken a conscious decision to stick to a budget of Rs 18 crore. We know that Fashion, starring Priyanka Chopra and Kangna Ranaut, was made in less than Rs 15 crore. But, with Ash and Arjun Rampal in the lead a budget of Rs 18 crore is certainly a limited amount. So, what we learnt is that Ash and Arjun have decided to slash their fee. Instead, they will be sharing the profits of the film. They are confident of Heroine's prospects at the box office. UTV, is certain that the film will do great business and thus they are assured that they can divide the profits with Ash and Arjun. The film is slated to go on the floor on June 8. Yet again, Ash becomes the first actress to set a trend like this. She's going strong and stronger!

oh please guzaarish was NOT an arthouse film!! just because it dealt with a serious issue (quite poorly). It was a full on melodrama, nothing subtle or artsy about it and SLB would agree.
ASH jee movies don't run bcuz of her.. the movie works only if there is a good quality top Hero (actor) or the script by director/writer.
ASH jee can't never ever make a movie hit on her own..... profit ke koi baat he nahe banti yaha par.
Some 1 better think of other options best fitted/suitable at this stage of life....
Sujata....the heading should read 'Ash takes pay cut due to budget constraints' and not MISLEAD readers that her profit share is due to her so called 'superstar' status. As for being the first actress to 'demand' a profit share...what proof can u offer. No other actress has ever had to stoop so low as to publicise the most personal details of her professional life in order to prove her marketability. Her desperation to hold on to her 'megastar' image has her pinning her paycheque to her forhead....how low can u go. No wonder kareena kapoor turned down the offer. She is definetly a superstar who has a superstar paycheque...and producers have no problem paying her... if they cannot they need to find another actress. If a b-grade actor such as Arjun rampal has the same clause attached to his contract this merely proves that the profit share clause is to cover the shortfall of their asking fee rather than being a top actress. Ash had hardly paved the way for actresses to claim profit share....this practice could have been going on long before 'heroine'...other actresses just depend on their industry status to get the price they want without having to publicize such details....a top actress worth her salt would never have to resort to such cheap tactics.
She wont be coming home with much moolah then will she? Her movies always fare average.

But didn't you just say all her last films were disasters? Then how did she survive? You've so lost the plot that it's almost hillarious now.
Come to think of it, which Indian actress had given two hits last year? Other than Ash, none. Aishwarya gave two blockbusters last year - Raavanan and Robot. Raavan (Hindi) was a hit overseas. Along with that, though Guzaarish couldn't recover its costs, it got her almost all the critics awards for Best Actress. Now which actress had seen such splendid BO success plus awards too?
P.S. Guzaarish made more money than other hits like Paa or NOKJ. If anything went wrong with the film, it was the budget. No one makes art house films with a 60cr budget. Anyway hope SLB learnt a lesson and makes movies with lesser budgets."

Good for her... female-centric movies in Bollywood usually aren't big earners though. Nice that she will slash her fee for a good project though... she is a true artiste! :) Looooved her in Chokher Bali, which was a small budget movie, and I'm so glad she did it! :)
