Heroine takes a dig at Katrina Kaif ?

So according to many leading websites, there is a scene in Heroine where Kareena Kapoor, playing actress Mahi, is questioned by journalists. One of them asked her to comment about a foreign actress who has been experiencing a successful career in Bollywood.
Mahi replied that the the leading actress (Kaif) has ''climbed up the success ladder only because her boyfriend is a top star (Salman Khan).'' She even went to say that ''her passport needs to be checked to identify her real name, age and country of origin.''
Now we all know that Bhandarkar films are always inspired by real life characters and incidents. This particular scene that he incorporated in the film is deemed not out of illusion but it is adopted from reality. A similar comment about Kaif was made by Deepika Padukone on Koffee With Karan which caused a lot of buzz in Bollywood circles. .
It has also been said that initially Kapoor was reluctant to perform this scene but was taken into confidence by Director Bhandarkar who logically explained that there is nothing wrong in the scene as there are ''many aspiring actresses coming to India to try their luck in Bollywood.''

i wish her true past comes out full fledgedly and she gets ousted from the industry. the prob is that most of her fans are those poor illiterate people from villages and slums who haven't gotten over the colonial hangover and are obsessed with her white skin and british heritage. the educated masses are already aware of her shady past and porn movie family connections. those illiterate fans of hers will never accept these truths about their fave heroine. even salman khan fans remain loyal to him despite him beating women, underworld connections (dawood ibrahim) and running cars over and killing homeless people. the indian masses need to be smacked around for supporting such a deceitful woman. i'm not saying they shud judge her porn past but the fact that she lied and hid all this is wrong. she deceived all of india. at least sunny leone is not a manipulating deceitful liar.

If KK is lying about her age/origin, how's that unfair to the fans? Jesus, you people sure know how to over dramatize things. It's HER business, whether she lies or not, and last time I checked no one is a fan of her's because of her age or origin - they're fans of her, because they like her!

Anonymous's picture

Well, not a katrina fan, but however she came into bollywood, i'm sure even Salman Khan himself didnt decide that in the future katrina would be compared with experienced actresses like Kareena who are acting for many years now.

Katrina now is trying to grow, whether its her belly dancing who no actress never gave so much attention to.
Or whether it was her great hindi speech in Rajneeti, She's trying her best, so lets just support her with that :/

I kinda feel bad for Katrina. Im not a fan of her in a ny way, infact I didnt watch ajab prem and mere brother ki dulhan because I couldnt tolerate her ridiculous accent. She is such a pain to watch on screen. Anyway I feel bad thinking how she must feel when she watches the movie or when all of B-Town knos its her they are directing the dialogue at.

Fiza_Khan's picture

btw, I meant Katrina Kaif by "she"....

Anonymous's picture

@Fiza_Khan -- this is pure speculation... you don't know how it has been used... so don't judge till you watch it in the movie... I felt bad when farah khan used SRK in tees maar khan during oscar sequence... that was rude!

Anonymous's picture

Though she's not as famous I think Jaqueline Fernandez can also be under this "famous boyfriend can make me famous" category, at least Katrina Kaif is a better actress than her

And racsim in bollywood is as apparent as fair & lovely. It's not where you're from it's where you look like you can be from.
Gori gori milky milky skin

Fiza_Khan's picture

She is definitely not a good actress, though I have to agree she is improving day by day and she is a hard working lady. But she is not even tht beautiful, she is just DIFFERENT in India bcoz she looks white, similarly how people in HW finds Freida Pinto "unique" and "alienish" compared to them.

However, the point is tht no matter wht or who she is, this statement about her on the movie was rude. I mean, if he wanted to mention tht, then he could have done tht "INDIRECTLY" but honestly, mentioning a BIG STAR & PASSPORT and WHITE,...,,u can tell he is DIRECTLY insulting Kaif over here...I mean u can clearly tell who he is pointing at!

Anonymous's picture

Funny thing is all actresses are bleaching every body part to look white like her and she is obsessing about platic/botox up African American lips. The fairer ones want to tan and become dark like habshii women and the darker complexioned ones want to bleach white, none is comfortable in their own skins and to think young girls emulate these fakers is a concern.

Bollywood has always accepted ppl from other countries, provided they can speak Hindi (it IS the Hindi-film industry after all) and have talent. Manisha Koirala is from Nepal and is accepted as a heroine back in the 90s. Also, Helen is a renowned and much-respected dancer back then. Katrina Kaif despite her lack of acting abilities has also been accepted big time in India. So what racism are people taking about?

There is a problem when ppl take white MODELS and make them play pretend that they are desi even though the poor girl clearly cannot pull it off due to lack of acting talent or they simply don't look the part. For instance, Nargis's role in Rockstar - the girl doesn't even know what she is doing, she doesn't even have the nuances right to play a desi girl. In EDT, they actually had to PAINT Amy Jackson a few shades darker to make her look right, how ridiculous is that? These problems can easily be solved if they just cast an Indian girl in the first place who is correct for the ROLE.

And if we're talking abt racism here, why aren't white men playing heroes in Bollywood films when there are so many white female models play pretending to be desi? And why only white, fair girls - how abt casting a black girl as a heroine in a Hindi film and try to pass her off as desi- do you think this will happen anytime soon?

Please don't pretend that at this point, there is no fetishisation of the white female by male filmmakers in the Hindi film industry. It is definitely happening and Imtiaz Ali is one of the biggest culprits.

Did anyone else notice the pallu of her saree is like 2 inches wide. Lol what has the world come to.

Anonymous's picture

ohh wow thats juicy news. CANT wait for this movie..bollywood's dark side is going to be exposed for all to see. People's perception of the industry being 'goody goody happy happy' as shown in Om Shanti Om etc will probably be corrected a bit. It is going to be like the movie Fashion but instead of talking about the fashion world it is going to focus on the life of a heroine.
I dont like KAreena but I do agree that she is a better choice than aish. Aish with her weird annoying facial expressions would have killed it. And man, this movie is definitely going to be Kareena's best.
Years from now when they talk about Kareena KApoor, they will speak of Heroine as being the peak of her career.

Anonymous's picture

that's not kool

Ironman's picture

Honestly....I dont think Kareena actually hesitated when shegot to know about this scene...she is more than happy to bash others.

Anonymous's picture

Lets just some it up here. Katrina is the equivalent of kim kardashian in india. She got fame over nothing, and used her looks and pr team to get films. there is zero talent amongst both women. and indians like anything and anyone who is fair.

Anonymous's picture

I don't think the intend behind that screen or Deepika's comment on KWK was to say that she shouldn't act in Bollywood movies because she is not an Indian or have any racial meaning behind it... What the point is that she's lying about her age and her true identity and that is unfair to her fans and all those that make her movies successful by watching them and believing the "unreal" information she puts out there...

We have tons of actresses like Kajol, Ash, Rani, Vidya who are successful and they do not lie about their age... they still have a spectacular fan following even at this age... so what is the need to lie?

Aristocrat's picture

jumping jack flash that role was specifically written with shelley long (white woman) in mind. sister act that role was written with bette midler (white woman). and whoopi stated on the view "these roles were meant for white women but i broke the barrier".
and i remember watching the true story behind saved by the bell b/c "lisa's role" was specifically written for a jewish girl. the producers debated about this b/c the writer really wanted a jewish girl b/c that is what he had the role in mind for.
obviously when you see these ladies on screen you see black women and you cannot presume they are white but their roles were written for white women. but you are right i cannot say the same for bollywood.

How were these roles meant for white people lol? Just because she was a protagonist, doesn't mean she was supposed to be white. It would have been the same if Whoopi Goldberg played these roles and the character was described as a 'white girl' and the makers would say 'just presume Whoopi is white, why can't you!' THAT is what bollywood does with Katrina and other white girls who are getting roles in Bollywood today.

sweetikins's picture

@ Aristrocrat- I don't mean to speak for fmlreally, but in my opinion think you're misunderstanding his/her statement. In the examples you've mentioned the origin of the character was changed to suit the actress. In Katrina's case , the characters origins are not changed at all. In Rajneeti shes playing an Indian girl, in TMK shes playing an aspiring bwood actress from India( why the foreign accent?).
She was well cast in ZNMD , NL and MBKD because all of those roles were tweaked for her accent to make sense in the context of the movie. She was playing an NRI

However your point Aristrocrat has reminded me of something else. Whenever Indians play the role of an NRI they never have a native accent. Like Deepika in Love Aaj Kal or Cocktail, she sounds like shes been born and raised in India. The only time Ive heard an actor even attempt an accent to remain consistent with a script was vivek oberoi in Kurbaan. I think Indians should learn from international actors and attempt different accents. Katrina should attempt an Indian accent too. Its an essential skill for an actor.

Special mention for Kareena's atrocious British accent in K3G. How her career survived after that, I will never know. Oh wait , surname , right.
