Born as Lalita Rani on 3rd April, 1962, Jaya Prada is the daughter of Krishna Rao, a Telugu film financier, and Neelaveni. She did her schooling at a Telugu school and was also at the same time learning dance and music. From a very young age, Jaya Prada started performing in dance shows for her school during which she was offered a three-minute dance number in the Telugu film, Bhoomi Kosam. The minor dance number got her more roles and she emerged as a major star. In 1976 with many major hit films, she was seen in the film Anthuleni Katha followed by Siri Siri Muvva, Seetha Kalyanam, Adavi Ramudu, and so on. These films not only strengthened her star status but she was also approached by more and more filmmakers. In 1977, she made her debut in the Kannada film industry with the movie, Sanaadi Appanna. After working for a few years, she was seen in the 1981 critically acclaimed Tamil film, 47 Natkal. Finally, in 1983, she was launched in Bollywood with the film Kaamchor where she spoke Hindi fluently for the first time and also earned several award nominations. Next, she was seen in films like Sharaabi, Sanjog, Tohfa, and so on. She was cast opposite actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Jeetendra. Apart from that, Jaya Prada has also worked in several Malayalam films. Apart from acting, she also made her debut on television with the talk show, Jayapradam and interviewed many celebrated actors. Later in 1994, she advanced towards politics and joined the Telugu Desam Party. She campaigned in several constituencies; however, later left TDP to join Samajwadi Party. After losing the 2014 General Elections, Jaya Prada joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on March 26, 2019. Talking about her personal life, she got married to producer Srikanth Nahata who was already married to Chandra and had three children. She also adopted her sister's son and has raised him as his own son.
