Setting money aside into an ecgreenmy fund may seem very non-productive at the time, but WHAM! as soon as that ecgreenmy hits (and it will), it sure is nice to have the funds waiting there. This was the case recently for me and my wife. A routine trip to the dentist with one of our children went from $150 for cleaning and x-rays to $800 for some extra work' pretty quick. Instead of grabbing for credit cards to absorb the impact, my wife was able to calmly swipe our debit card and press the savings' button on the terminal to make the payment in full. Instead of getting terribly upset at the unfortunate situation, we were able to thank the Lord that we had the money ready.Great thoughts in your article Jon. I'm also enjoying your podcasts!Take care,GlenGlen Steinson recently posted..

Glycolic acid is the best for removing dark spots. I am not Indian, but I doubt you can lighten your skin permanently.
Even if you bleach your skin, that's only the first layer, your body will keep producing the same amount of melanine, so, when your sking cells renew, your initial colour will apear.
Honestly, it beats me why the obsession with white skin. I mean, what's the difference between 3 shades lighter and 3 shades darker?

everyone on pinkvilla is a hypocrite.
you guys are the ones who go crazy for katrina/nargis/jacky firangees.
while i've heard priyanka being called an ape until she seriously changed her face and bleached it. (recently)
and now your crying over her being a bad influence?
gora skin is what sells in India and if you don't believe it just look at whos considered the #1 item girl.
-------------------------------------

I agree, damn if you do,m damn if you don't.
People are in awe for lighter girls, but if a dark girl wants to fit into what's considered beautiful, she's fake.
It's not her job to educate people, but it's a pitty.
She could have stayed stronger and not give into this fake white makeup, light hair, light contacts.
But in the end, they all do, look at Bipasha, does she look the same with how she looked when she sated out?

Anonymous's picture

forget the skin colour people. she is not even looking like a human in this picture. all those cosmetic surgeries (nose jobs) have destroyed her natural beauty.

"i bet most of you here use fairness cream....there's a reason why they keep making them!"

Hey that's not true. I'm naturally very fair because I'm punjabi but that doesn't mean I hate on dark skinned people. I think Priyanka used to have this gorgeous golden colored skin which she ruined with I don't know what. Yeah Kareena and Aishwarya are beautiful but so har Kajol, Rani, Priyanka! It's sad to see Priyanka doing this ad though.

Sigh, another Miss World who can't make peace with her complexion. Contrary to popular belief in India, you don't have to use bleach to remove dark spots. They can be removed with creams containing soy or vitamin C i.e. Aveeno brightening moisturizer, Neutrogena even skin tone. They can also be removed with a prescription grade retionoid. I don't like that companies can advertise bleach when there are other ingredients that truly remove scars and dark spots. She shouldn't have done this commercial, not a good example at all.

This is so disgusting. If you can't see the problem here then it's even more disgusting because attitudes like that come from family/parents which means it's seeped into society enough to be a generational problem.

And the product's name is garnier light fairness moisturizer. lol! Nothing about spots or what not. People are going to buy it for the 'light fairness' part.

Anonymous's picture

White washed.

Guys, it's known in photography that lighter eyes photograph better than darker eyes. Too much darkness in that area doesn't allow the eyes to pop. They might not be wearing those contacts just to appear Western, you know...

This is obsession with fairness is just weird. It effectively ostracises 90% of the country's population. It's especially hard for young girls who are falsely reminded that they aren't pretty or successful or any good at all because of their dark skin tone. Outside of Asia, an attitude like that will certainly be construed as racism and highly offending.

Arina.. . just because the status quo is that a nation uses fairness creams does not mean things can't change . After all, in the US , fairness creams/bleaching to change color is banned-- but it took a while to put the laws through.

the reality is these creams are advertising a false facade that lighter=better=confidence=better career+better love, etc. etc. - which is so so untrue and wrong.

So it's not wrong to say no to them.

and yes, celebs who are supposed to be 'role models' is a society gone wrong. these celebs are all presenting and image, raking in bucks. many of them also conversely state they will never promote fairness creams-- trying to cash into its bashing-- but you don't know whether they really value all colors inside or not.

my god! she looks Awesome <3 Love u PC :)) xoxoxo

Anonymous's picture

doesn anyone think she looks pretty? how can u look past that mouth?

Anonymous's picture

she looks so much like shazhn padamsee in this picture. Or like her older sister.

Indians are self-hating jokers. This woman should be ashamed of herself. Im sure she didnt need the money from this stupid ad promoting insecurity about things that CANT BE CHANGED. Jesus. What a stupid thing to do.

'and I don't think endorsing a fairness cream is bad, believe it or not Indian people use fairness cream..Thats the truth..So don't act like idiots'

Newsflash - indians do loads of idiotic things like sex-selective abortion, doesnt make it right though? How is she being a positive role model by telling girls that their skin colour needs to be "corrected"?? So angry right now. Mainly just sad though.

Anonymous's picture

this is not a Fairness AD its a Spot reduction cream AD.....How uneducated most of commenters are....Disgusting

Anonymous's picture

pc is looking stunning!!!!

It is disappointing that a confident and successful and DUSKY complexioned young woman like PC is endorsing a fairness cream. She is in the best position to promote confidence in our natural complexion. Grooming and looking after ourselves is required, but fairness? Especially since it is just not possible with these creams. BAD on Garnier's part too. Do better than this PC - we love your confidence and dusky complexion.

Mmmm why GARNIER makes her wear green contacts even in their ads?? Isn't enough when she wears them all the time in real life?? At least in the pic she didn't look white nor in the video or not that much BUT, the lighting her face scene was HILARIOUS! She's is BROWN! Why couldn't they chose a fair girl??
The puppy is cute but poor him, WHY HE WAS PHOTOSHOPPED TOO?????? Damn Garnier!

luvtohate's picture

We all know how bad PC skin is in real life.....PEACE OUT

Anonymous's picture

Disgusting. Can't believe Priyanka agreed to do this fairness ad.

Anonymous's picture

She isn't even fair so why is she endorsing a fairness cream?

Anonymous's picture

why does she always wear contacts n wigs??? and duh she endorses coz she feels like she needs it!

Anonymous's picture

omg she looks STUNNING!

Kitty's picture

She looked so pretty in the ad and the puppy was so cute! :) But why is Priyanka endorsing a fairness cream? Boooo! Is she that desperate for cash?

Anonymous's picture

wow she looks too fair and with those contact lenses she looks like a different person altogether. WIsh these 'duskier' actresses were more comfortable in their skin or (even better) wish we didn't have them as our role models. They cry hoarse saying 'they are loving themselves/ they are proud of of their colour/comfortable in their skin' but in essence and visually it's actually the opposite. Slowly they are reconstructing themselves to look as different from themselves as they can be.

Now if that's not LOW SELF ESTEEM i dont know what is.

It is quite sad actually.

p.S: I am not a hater but neither a true fan of any of these fake leaders of the youth.

love-
The real Anon :)

Anonymous's picture

She is not even that fair. (Too much Photoshop) theseday international brands should not mislead public into buying something that doesn't delivery what they promise to do so.

Anonymous's picture

she just doesn't look human anymore. her nose is so extremely off-putting, and her cheeks look a bit fake too. i want to like her, but these just detract for that aim.

Anonymous's picture

They made her skintone lighter and her contacts look like real green eyes. Instead of going through so much efffort, why not just had hired Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, or Aishwarya Rai then?

Anonymous's picture

hmm ok i don't like this cream..does not look good on me..

Anonymous's picture

omg... her nose bother me.
