In an interview with NDTV covering many topics including her latest release 'Aiyya', Rani Mukherjee spoke about the so called limited shelf life of female actors in Bollywood and how it was unfair to blame the film industry for what, according to her, was a trait of our society.
She pointed out that it has always been okay for men to be older than their partners in India but never the other way round. She said the 'shelf life' was a part of our society and cannot be changed by a few Bollywood stars alone and must be viewed in a positive manner.
Speaking to NDTV, she opined that female actors in Bollywood can beat the rule. She said female actors must focus on looking good even as they grow older. She said they must work out and keep fit to ensure fans are always kept guessing about their real age. She also said that Directors must invest in such actors to ensure their talent is not wasted.

i love rani
I tip my hat off to you, dear Rani, and the truth you just highlighted.
WOW ---- female SRK (Intellectual) Rani I am simply your fan 4 life: Please keep on Entertaining and i hope the Indian movie makers(directors/producers) offer you the best roles u rightly deserve. Bless!
She's quite insightful ! Its not simply a "bollywood" issue ! It goes far beyond that to societal age discrimination and marital discrimination which are intricately linked. I suppose Rani has done her best to keep us "guessing" by fiercely maintaining her privacy in the relationship front because lets face it come marriage an actresses appeal is severely depleted where the Indian audience is concerned.
keep guessing about their age? i don't understand this obsession with being young.
life is much more than being a heroine in stupid bollywood flicks rani aunty.
Love u..
Love u.
but how can a celeb's age be kept a secret. Their bio can be found online for anyone interested.
I actually would like to see Rani slim down a little - she's been looking chubby lately. I feel like she would have looked even better in Aiyyaa if she was in better shape, but then again she is playing a young, everyday girl and the role probably didn't call for her to lose weight.
LOL well said Rani :)
Sure, they must work out...but she doesn't seem to!
Very true Rani. I love you!
She's 100% right. If I may add, married actresses should also stop trying to please their in-laws by being the perfect bahus and get back to work.
