Rumours flew thick on how Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's refusal to greenlight Satte Pe Satta had forced the producers Ashtavinayak and Sanjay Dutt to push the remake of the Amitabh Bachchan-Hema Malini film to 2012.

But there was a windfall for young director Soham Shah who got none other than Bollywood's dancing diva Madhuri Dixit to say yes to him. Says Soham, "I was always keen on Madhuri playing Hema Malini's role in my remake. However, I was hesitant to put the proposal forward wondering if she would accept it. Looks like someone up there was listening because Dhillin Mehta and Baba (Sanjay) who are co-producers sent Madhuri a message. I sent her the script and I was ecstatic when she agreed."

Sanjay is also happy that Madhuri, who he holds in high esteem as an actor, and one of the most professional artistes he has known, will be part of his second home production. Soham confirms that the film will go on floors in mid-June and will be completed in a 45-day continuous schedule.

"After this, we will have two songs remaining to be picturised which we will do when Madhuri returns." Dhillin Mehta says, "Honestly, the Sanjay-Madhuri pair has its own charm. We are delighted that we were able to get her to say yes to us. Sometimes things work out for the best. We are happy to announce this film on her birthday today."

*I'm sure Madhuri's fans would love this sweet birthday present from her... =]

More power to married actresses!

I feel Ash didn't reply back to Sanjay, because it wasn't a meaty role, and much for her to do in it. It would heave been her, Sanjay, then story of 6 other brothers, their love interests , then the plot of the greedy uncle trying to take all the wealth of his niece. Overall the highlight would be far away from her in the movie. Its a good news for Madhuri. They may add 2-3 dances for Madhuri, but if it is a pure remake, not a lot is there for the heroine of this movie

lol agree with kitty. Thank god Ash is not doing it. This has disaster written all over it.

Aishwariya was offered this movie before Madhuri and then Madhuri signs it? what does that say.. the producers felt like she looked as old as Madhuri :) while Madhuri is much older than ash she is still so so beautiful and is gracefully living to her age and yes her genuine smile is something that makes her real... Ash can continue to turn down movies for her colleagues who r so much better than her!!

so if you are old you should just shrivel up and become unromantic??
Really? so are you telling me once women cross 40 and men cross 50 they cease to feel love?
You really need a reality check. go out there in the world and you will see people only realize true love when they are older.
its like wine gets better with time.
Its sad that people are ready to accept a 45 year old salman khan, srk or akshay kumar acting opposite 18 year olds who are young enough to be their daughters and people have no issues with that.
However a mature love story with right aged people is being ridiculed.

Yipeeeeee! I'm sooo glad that Aishwarya is NOT doing this movie!

Honestly I did not care much for the original Satte Pe Satta, though I luv AB and Hema, but (from what I remember of it) it just seemed like a messy jumble of too many C grade actors (Shakti Kapoor types) wasting time on screen! Like Mohabbatein but with SEVEN love stories instead! LOL...

So who do you guys think will play the other brothers/ brides? (Keeping in mind that they will not be able to afford so many A listers who would be willing to play bit parts)

My guess for the brothers: Zayed Khan, Kunal Khemu, Aashish Chaudhury, Fardeen Khan, Aftab Shivdasani (are those 2 still acting LOL) and maybe Tusshar or even Arshad Warsi!

And for the brides: Celina Jaitley, Riya Sen, Aarti Chhabria, Neetu Chandra, Sameera Reddy, and maybe Koena Mitra!

:)

Again, Aishwarya Rai was the first choice for the role.... now Madhuri is doing her leftovers, like many other actresses who made a career out of Aishwarya's turned down films.

Anonymous's picture

Aishwarya Rai would have been the best choice for this role. I'm disappointed! :-( Madhuri is too old for this. She's not even a mainstream actress anymore like Ash is.

Seriously who would come to the theatre to watch the romance between a 44 year woman and a 55 year old man! Think logically.

Thats so sweet!

For those who don't know...Satte pe satta itself was a copy of 'Seven wives for seven brothers! that was a true classic. The hindi version had the double role of Big B and the villian etc...just stretched the move....hope these are edited out, coz the original was much better

yeah i heard the same, it may be she didnt like that script, and anyone can makes exuses...which i do, its normal...

im glad madhuri is back yayyyyyyyy :D

Anonymous's picture

So this is the hypocrisy of Madhuri. When she gets roles of playing Sonam's mother and Rajni' s mother , she says- My kids are missing me. And when she gets a heroine role opposite Sanjay, she flows from US to India within seconds. Aren't her kids missing her now?

Spunky's picture

wow madhuri is back yay!!!! i dont like remakes tho!!!

Anonymous's picture

Ash would have been so stiff for this role ! thank goodness he chose Madhuri...

Anonymous's picture

Oh such a great news .. i'm dying to see her back on screen .. love you mads!!

Anonymous's picture

Wow its a great news only Madhuri can do justice to the role of HemaMalini, if Aishwarya would have done it , it would have definitely not been good, because she cannot act at all. Its a great choice, and all the best guys!! its going to be a super hit i guess!!

Anonymous's picture

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!! GREAT NEWS!! CAN'T WAIT :)

Anonymous's picture

I am among the huge Madhuri fans ad I don´t liek this news. out of all the actors and directors it has to be Sohal Shah and Sanjay Dutt? No, not a good choice at all.

Anonymous's picture

omg!!!! IM SOOOOO EXCITED! they havent been in a movie together since 1997 (mahanta) that was 14 years ago! i cant believe this is happening!

Anonymous's picture

But didn't she have an affair with Sanjay Dutt in the 1980s?

anchal.arya's picture

thank you so much 4 posting this schmuck, i read it in the paper actually.
satte pe satta is an iconic movie, no 1 can do better than mads, and that too with sanju. aww, they shared more than chemisrty.
i really dont have a problem with remakes, i just want the remakes to be atleast half as good as the original. but their is no way i'm going to miss this one. YAY!!!!!

Anonymous's picture

Soham Shah is flop director

filmychica's picture

OMG! Great News :D ...i will be honest, i am not pro-remakes. This is great news for me...i can't wait. And that too, with Sanjay Dutt. hahaha...wow!

Schmuck's picture

Schmuck's picture

No problem dude. :) I'm excited to see her back with Sanju Baba! What chemistry they had back then... can't wait but the director scares me... Soham Shah of 'Luck' fame. Hope everything comes out well.

madhurifanforeva's picture

Oh Schmuck thank you so much
Sanjay and her had the best best chemistry, idk if to watch this movie or not
I hate remakes, why can't they just leave the classics alone and make original
