DNA India reports that Shah Rukh Khan has asked for "decorum of the highest order" for his item song in Chennai Express with Tamil actress Priyamani.

A source informs, "The original choice was to pair Shah Rukh with the Tamil actress Nayantara and Prabhu Dheva was to choreograph them. But Shah Rukh wanted a sober song with non-risque movements. So Prabhu Dheva’s elder brother Raju Sunderam, who is a formidable name in choreography and who hardly ever steps into Bollywood, was coaxed to do the item song for Chennai Express. Shah Rukh in any case has a family image. But now with all eyes of the moral police focused on item songs, he has decided not to go anywhere close to raunchy. His brief to Raju Sunderman was to make it fun but not raunchy."

Some of SRK's previous item songs include Chaiyya Chaiyya from Dil Se with Malaika Arora Khan, Dard-e-Disco from Om Shanti Om, Ishq Kamina from Shakti - The Power with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Marjani Marjani from Billu Barber with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Love Mera Hit Hit from Billu Barber with Deepika Padukone, Iss Kaal Kaal Mein from Kaal with Malaika Arora Khan, and Chammak Challo from Ra.One with Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Good. Someone has to start to change the trend. Kudos king Khan

What I like about SRK's dancing songs...(why the hell Indians call such songs items!!!) is that they deend n his character and the theme of the film. If anyone notice even he's dancing and behaving according to his character and pretty much feeling the lyrics. So whatever comes in his films I know it's going well with his acting. Don't care much how should or shouldn't as long as he's true to his role even in songs.

except for CRIMINAL from RA 1, I totally agree

Good decision.
And he should also stop talking double meaning things while hosting award shows.

Come on!!! And where is the fun! Sorry but I'm not a child and I enjoy naughty jokes and all. These have nothing to do with whatever rape thingy or looking down upon women! Let's not be that conservative!

The item songs in his movies have been pretty good so far but one song that really creeps me out is "Criminal" from RaOne... something about a booty goin pop-pop-pop. LOL

Agree totally with Spicyliya...Aishwarya is a class act!

no raunchy item song = no katrina kaif! yay!

Anonymous's picture

Good decision, i hope they follow through on it. The Khans are almost 50, 'raunchy' will look ridiculous on them.

Anonymous's picture

Go go go Shahrukh. Proud of you for your decision.

This kind of decision is always welcomed!! way to go SRK:)

Good.

Why no to raunchy item numbers? He did raunchy scenes with none other than Katirna Kaif just to rile up Salman Khan further?!? What he couldn't say No to Mr. Yash Chopra? Hah:(

Anonymous's picture

Good call. Raunchy moves do not equal sexy or sensual. Chaiyya Chaiyya was extremely sensual without any vulgarity.

Wise decision. Considering all the media stuff that's floating about his private life and all. Doing a bold item number wouldn't help matters.

Good for him..
ISHQ KAMINA. SRK and ASH were incredible cute together. This song marks the very first time I ever saw Aishwariya Rai as "hot" - not beautiful, gorgeous or stunning, but actually HOT. But holy mother is she in this song. And what's incredible is the way she pulls off such an overtly raunchy number with so much class. She has so much grace and there's no vulgarity even when she's doing these kinds of moves.

How can Nayantara and Prabhudeva possibly work together after their bitter break up?

Anonymous's picture

Din't SRK only started the trend of guys in an item number? His Dard-e-disco was all about getting female fan attention.

It's a good decision.

IMHO, SRK has never done an item song that was raunchy before this either. Compared to some other item songs we see, the item songs he has appeared in are toned down, both in terms of dance moves and lyrics.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Correct. Even his own item song Dard-e-disco had funny lyrics in it though the fangirls were ogling and drooling over him in that song's picturization. :P

family man srk <3

The good news is that someone has started making a point about changing these trends. If he had done it in the past or not should not be contentious, that he has chosen not to do it in his upcoming movie should be applauded. Good for SRK.

ISHQ KAMINA! I remember that song was such a rage! And SRK and Ash were total desi hotness..thanks for reminding me :)) Btw never realized all these songs were item numbers but they all are great, hit songs of his. Oh and I think you're forgetting Love Mera Hit Hit, the most viewed bollywood song on youtube :D
